A thrilling story of just being a witch and using her powers. Georjie was asked to come Blackmouth Castle by a friend, Jasher, but when she got there, Jasher said he did not send her a letter to come see him, very strange. A body was found on the property but was very old in time, who could it be? Jasher’s girl friend mysteriously disappeared and couldn’t be found. Georgia was a witch and was using her powers to help find her but found more then she bargained for. Good storytelling.
I greatly enjoyed Bones of the Witch. It has a great plot and moves at a good pace. I really loved exploring more of Georjie’s capabilities with her and meeting her new friends. There is a great deal of mystery surrounding her journey to Scotland and the castle she boards at.
This part of her adventure ends with an intriguing cliffhanger. It left me excited to discover what secrets will be revealed next and find out if any of my questions will be answered.
I was enthralled reading this very exciting thriller set in the Scottish highlands and which start with the arrival of Georgjayna, arriving to visit from Canada. She is a wise and has earth magical powers, which she tries to use to help out her friends in the castle she is living in. They are working hard to remove some ancient ruins but a thorn tree keeps hindering them. Georgie tries to come to their aid but finds that her magic is doing the opposite and the thorn bush becomes worse. Then they find a skeleton entombed within the mortar of the ruins and from thereon all hell is set loose in the supposedly sleepy town of Blackmouth. The story takes on a very dark twist when an eldritch appears, the skeleton disappears from the morgue, a friend disappears and then is found in a coma and Georgjie is taken to the fae dimension known as Stavarjak. There she meets Queen Alphame and as usual nothing is as it seems when the fae are involved. Was she set up by Laec and did Fyfa really intend helping her save her friend, Evelyn? I love the intricacy of the tale, the strength and bravery Georgjie shows as she stands her ground when facing such horrors and the beautiful depiction of the fae realm, Stavarjak. I love the fight between the dark and light magical forces, and the romance between both Jasher and Evelyn, and Georgjie and Lachlan, and look forward to reading book 2 in this very magical series.
Oh my gosh, this book was not what I expected. This turned out to be spooky and left me guessing. I love the history and the scenery of this book. I love the way A. L. Knorr uses folklore and history in her books. This one is no different. Georgie is such a great character and a wonderful Elemental. The darkness she deals with in this book kept me turning the page. I didn’t want to put it down. The climax leaves you with a feeling of being too easy, but was it? I’m looking forward to the next book. I am sure I will be loosing sleep when I read that one as well.
What a story! A.L. Knorr leads us to a magical world full of beauty, adventures, mystery, and suspense. The new characters and environment are great complements to an incredible narrative. Georgie faces new challenges and has the opportunity to learn a little bit more about her powers. It is also a chance to get to know Jasher. It’s a journey not to be missed. Eager to read “Ashes of the Wise”.
I can not begin to tell you how much I enjoyed this book. I actually delayed finishing it because I wanted, no… I needed it to last longer – for months!
I begins with such a mystery surrounding the little Scotland town and its castle. Georjayna was invited by her friend and step cousin Jasher to spend some time with him while he works on restoration.
I enjoyed the change in their relationship, as well as all new characters and the new magical world.
Mysteries were aplenty, few still left unanswered to which I am grateful for. I did my best to figure out what would happen next and failed miserably.
This was so masterful, so vivid so full of substance and emotion my poor heart swelled.
When she was questioned by the inspector I felt my palms sweat. The final confrontation at the end had me stop and blink because my eyes were glued to the words. So excited to read the next book! I have questions that need answers!
A Fantastic read. That kept me captivated from start to finish. The Author has done a fantastic job at bringing this story to fruition. The Characters are written so well you can feel there personalities out. And the scenes are written so well I felt like I could see them in my minds eye. Theres twists and turns. I definitely recommend.

I love strong heroines, give me a story with Fae, dark sorcery and medieval Highland history as I’m sooo there, then add in that it’s by a favorite author, A.L. Knorr? Oh yes indeedy – and her Bones of the Witch (Earth Magic Rises Book 1) did not even remotely disappoint. This really was one heck of an unforgettable YA adventure. Perfectly plotted and written. I cannot wait for book 2.
Highly recommended.
Very intense story when the past is bought to the fore.
Georgie is flying blind here, from the mysterious calling to Scotland to the folklore surrounding the ancient land. I found this part 1 of the tale mesmerizing, scary and l have several questions l hope will be answered in the next installment.
RECOMMENDED STORY.
This book delves deeper into Georgayna’s story, and it’s absolutely awesome. I couldn’t put it down. The imagery and depth of the characters made me feel like I was a part of the story. I was kept me guessing all the way to the end. I can’t wait for the next book!
Bones of the Witch: A YA (Earth Magic Rises Book 1) (a spin-off of the bestselling Elemental Origins Series), my sixteenth read from author A.L. Knorr. Well-written, the characters, even the minor ones, are well developed with an attention-grabbing storyline. I’m a character reader, I get into the characters. Who and what they are. Why they do the things they do. The things that make the reader get invested into the characters and thereby the story. I’ll be reading more from this author & in this series! (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).
