Welcome to Patricia Briggs’s world, a place where “witches, vampires, werewolves, and shape-shifters live beside ordinary people” (Booklist). It takes a very unusual woman to call it home—and there’s no one quite like Mercy Thompson. By day, Mercy Thompson is a car mechanic in the sprawling Tri-Cities of Eastern Washington. By night, she explores her preternatural side. As a shape-shifter with … preternatural side. As a shape-shifter with some unusual talents, Mercy’s found herself maintaining a tenuous harmony between the human and the not-so-human on more than one occasion. This time she may get more than she bargained for.
Marsilia, the local vampire queen, has learned that Mercy crossed her by slaying a member of her clan—and she’s out for blood. But since Mercy is protected from direct reprisal by the werewolf pack (and her close relationship with its sexy Alpha), it won’t be Mercy’s blood Marsilia is after.
It’ll be her friends’.

Patricia Briggs’ books are so excellent that I don’t even mind paying full price for them. As cheap as I am, that’s really saying something.
In a market crammed with stories about shapeshifters, vampires, witches and fae, Briggs’ books manage to be fresh and original with characters you want to hang out with. Well, not the bad guys…
Great book. I recommend without reservation.
Still seriously enjoying this series. I am not as invested in the romance part of the story as it’s not as powerful emotionally as some other urban fantasy novels I’ve read. But it’s still excellent and I’m thrilled that the love triangle part of the story isn’t lasting the ENTIRE series.
All books by her are fantastic.
This is one of my least favorite of the Mercy Thompson books, just because I don’t feel it was crucial to the story line at full. Full disclosure, I accidentally skipped this book and eventually went back to it. but at the same time it was never fully referenced in subsequent books, and the only thing I can take away after reading it was the furthering of the walking staff timeline. Even Mercy and Stefan’s relationship only takes a tiny step forward, I honestly thought their one page connection at the end of Blood Bound was more impactful. I love it as part of the series and definitely recommend you read it just to get more awesome banter, but I don’t think its crucial to the development of any storyline.
The running theme of the Mercy Thompson books is that there are consequences for everything. While recovering from the end of Iron Kissed, the events of Blood Bound come back to bite Mercy. Quite literally, given that the vampires are gunning for her this time. She’s not quite back to the sass level from the first two books, but she’s getting there, and I hope her mom (and her pretty pink gun) get more screen time in future books.

Couldn’t have been happier to have stumbled upon this book, which is my first foray into this excellent series. Just love to discover a new world with fantastic characters that feel real in their supernatural lives. Also such a relief when the story line makes sense, and holds up to scrutiny. So happy to find there are lots more to read i the series, as it is such a treasure to discover a new writer, who produces such fabulous books. Thank you.
Her Mercy Thompson series is awesome. Great story line.
This series is so addictive and I am fully immersed and I will not be coming up for air until I am caught up. I just love all of these characters so much. I love how much there is going on in this world and how many different paranormal creatures we get to encounter.
Mercy is quickly becoming one of my all-time favorite heroines. She has been through quite a bit, but she is a fighter and she pushes through. She has grown so much since the first book and I’ve just come to love her more and more. She always fights for those she cares for and she doesn’t let anything hold her back. And guys… Adam has seriously stolen my heart. I’m so enamored with him. He is so alpha, but never in an overly controlling or domineering way. I mean there’s a whole conversation where he’s like I don’t tell Mercy what she can and can’t do and this is the kind of alphas we need. He complements Mercy and is there when she needs someone, but he knows she is strong and capable of standing on her own two feet. And together I just love them so friggin much. And I still have a special place in my heart for Sam. I love the role he has taken on in this series and I just find him so incredibly lovable.
The plot of this one kept me on edge. Just when I thought things were going in one direction, everything took a left turn and went another way. Poor Mercy is always finding herself in trouble. It’s a good thing she has a knack for finding a way out of it and is more than able to take care of herself.
All in all, Bone Crossed was yet another great addition to this world. I am really dreading the day I am caught up on all the books.
I actually started on this series with the third book because it was free. Then I read books 1 and 2. Any of the first three you would be able to read without having read the others, but you need to read the first three before reading book 4 or it will not make sense. I really enjoy this series.
Always waiting for the next Patricia Briggs release.
Absolutely love this! Part of a series but also great on its own. I’m pretty sure I have read everything Patricia Briggs has written and I have never been disappointed! You will laugh, at times you will cry but you will never want the story to end. Coyotes rule!
I love Patricia Briggs and the Mercedes Thompson series. It was my first introduction to the urban fantasy genre and I’ve just fallen in love with her writing style and the worlds she creates. This series is super entertaining and full of great characters, kick-butt action, and great twists and turns. I can’t wait for her to write more books!
Bone Crossed is the fourth book in the Mercy Thompson series and what another great installment it is. I absolutely love Mercy and seeing her stumble her way through life. I can’t wait to see what happens next.
excellent series I have read all the Mercy Thompson stories and have not been disappointed yet !
After my reread of Iron Kissed I was so excited to dive into Bone Crossed, and it didn’t disappoint. I’d forgotten majority of the plot line, so I still managed to be surprised (likely for the second time) at some of the twists.
Bone Crossed centers (mostly) around vampire drama and picks up right where Iron Kissed left off – in fact the first few pages of Bone Crossed are the last few of Iron Kissed. As far as I’m aware, this is the only Mercy Thompson book that picks up so immediately from the previous, and I loved that I wasn’t wondering what happened during a time break.
As much as I love the werewolf aspects of these books, the vampires are right up there with them. They bring the drama and they’re supposed to be evil – but are they actually all guaranteed to be evil *cough, Stefan, cough*?
Beyond that, the vampire and pack politics in these books were fascinating. AND the amount of action and “what in the world is going on” moments were great – I can’t believe how much I enjoyed this book.
My favorite book series and author of all time! Love love love!!!!
I love the mercy Thompson novels.
This series is my favorite. I’ve reread it many times.
The Mercy Thompson series is a great one. I’ve enjoyed every book in it and Patricia Briggs would quickly write more.
I love Patricia Briggs! I’ve read 24 of her books!
