I received a complimentary copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
This is the seventh book in Kathryn Shay’s “The Lucky Casino Short Stories.” It is a short “feel-good” romance that is fun to read. Even though this book is short, Ms. Shay does not cut corners on her characters or plot.
When we first meet Chef Garrick, he is a tyrant in his kitchen and quite unlovable. His only asset is that he is an excellent chef. Even Ms. Shay, in her “Author’s Note,” admits that Garrick is difficult to like. Once the reader gets to know Garrick, we realize that his underprivileged background has shaped his character.
Chloe Masterson is Garrick’s new sous chef, and has an entirely different temperament. She is bubbly and likes everyone. In Chloe’s own words, she grew up with an “ideal background.”
Chloe refuses to show any fear of Garrick’s awful actions and words. She treats him as she treats every other person in the kitchen. It is so much fun to watch Garrick slowly thaws out under the spell of Chloe’s personality. By the end of the book, the reader will be cheering for their happily ever after.

Chloe was trained as a Sous Chef she just hadn’t been able to find one. Her friend let her know about an opening at the Lucky Lady but the Chef was a real terror.
Great story. really enjoyed it
Bon Appetit is an enjoyable quick read about a demanding chef and a sous chef. I enjoyed the characters & their personalities. Their attraction was instantaneous but they both fought it. He enjoyed short term relationships while she was looking for someone special. They each found something in the other that drew them in but was it enough?
Book seven in the The Lucky Lady Casino Short Stories series a well written story with a great storyline. Garrick is the host of a TV cooking show. Chloe Masterson is thrilled to be sous chef to Garrick. I enjoyed reading their story. I want to read more in this series. I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily reviewing.
This is the first of this series I have read. I don’t believe that you need to read the others to understand the storyline.
Chloe is a great character and is easy going. She seems to try to relate to all those in the kitchen.
Garrick is another story. He embodies all the characteristics of a celebrity, cocky, rude, condescending, and not nice. However, Chloe does bring out a softer side to him. She is not intimidated by him.
Their chemistry is there but will they last?
I was given this book for an honest voluntary review
When I started this book, I didn’t think I would find anything to like about Garrick. Then along came Chloe. She got under his skin like no one else and turned Garrick into a human being.
Chloe made Garrick work for the relationship. I really liked that. They made a good couple. I enjoyed the kind of snarky banter between Garrick and Chloe.
This was a very quick read. A sweet, slightly sexy short story that involved food..I love a romance with food, and an HEA.
I voluntarily read and reviewed the Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
This was an interesting short story that takes place in the fictional Lucky Lady Casino. As you probably could surmise from the title it has something to do with food. Chef Garrett is newly hired to run one of the casino restaurants. He is known as an exacting chef; expecting things to be done his way and learned quickly. Chloe is hired as a sous chef. She has seen Chef Garrett’s t.v. show and likes the way he cooks. She’s thrilled to be working alongside him. Something about Chloe sneaks its way under Garrett’s skin. He’s chosen a solitary life and likes it just fine. Well; men make plans and God laughs…. yup. This was an enjoyable short-story about Chloe and Garrett. I would have liked a little epilogue at the end; but, as this is a short story series, maybe in the end we find out about all the characters? All in all a nice quick read with likable characters.
Bon Appetit is a sweet and quick read. I love that this series continues with different people at the Lucky Lady Casino. This book is the story of celebrity chef Garrick and new chef Chloe. A lot of info is packed into this novella but Kathryn Shea does not disappoint with giving the reader a true sense of these characters and their lives. I highly recommend this book and the entire series.
A quick afternoon read that is part of the Lady Luck Casino stories. Garrick is the new head chef in the casino and has been running co-workers off. Garrick hires sous chef, Chloe who is not afraid of Garrick. Chloe will soon find a softness in Garrick where a relationship develops.
This was a fun easy read, with a few laugh out moments. I must say Garrick did warm my heart at the end. This is part of a series but can be read as a stand alone.
Chef Garrick is a celebrity chef trying to put his mark on The Atrium, a restaurant at the Lucky Lady Casino. He interviews a sous chef named Chloe Masterson, after he decimates the staff at The Atrium because they aren’t able to meet his expected standard of quality. Chloe has been waiting for her chance to shine in the food industry, but it hasn’t happened yet. She gets her chance when Garrick hires her for the job. They spend some time together and both see things in the other that they don’t often reveal. Garrick has made a name for himself, but not via prestigious schools. He has a bit of a chip on his shoulders because of it. Chloe has learned from one of the best culinary schools in France, and isn’t afraid to stand up for the people who work at The Atrium. She’s not intimidated by Chef Garrick either. He really likes that and he likes her, but knows it’s inappropriate to be with someone who works for him.
There are some tensions in this short story. Ms. Shay gets to the heart of the matter fairly quickly, as this is a novella. There is enough of a back story to grab the interest of the reader, and the story moves along smartly. There are several humanizing events that give the reader a window into the hearts of these protagonists. The situation with the injured bird is an interesting example of this type of event. Both characters are trying to navigate this workplace romance situation, and both seem to be searching for something deeper than constant work.
It’s easy to root for these two characters. They both have kind hearts, even if Garrick’s is covered by a layer of gruff. He runs hot and cold on Chloe, and she gets confused by his behavior. It takes him a while to figure out what he really wants, and then he doesn’t hesitate to act on it. Chloe is clearer on what she wants, and someone who is moody and gruff isn’t necessarily it, but when she takes the time to look below the surface, she likes what she finds. This is an interesting novella and worth reading for the story, as well as for the insights into running a restaurant.
I am reviewing this as an ARC, I receive no compensation for my review.
I enjoyed the book and it was great, but I missed the character development and story found in Katherine Shay’s full length novels.
This is the story of a curmudgeonly executive chef and his second in command who sees past the walls he has put up. The Sous Chief has a great positive attitude and is not going to let him get by with being a jerk. It truly ends up being a great story and I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.
I love everything Kathryn Shay has written!
Bon Appetit the 7th book in the Lucky Lady Casino Short Stories is a great addition to the series. The story revolves around Garrick the executive chef and the fact that he is a tyrant towards his staff. Within a few days of working at the Lucky Lady Casino Restaurant he has fired half of his staff as well as one walking out on him. He then get’s HR to find a Sous Chef and in walks Chole. She is not afraid of him as soon he reveals his tender side to her. Will Chole let him into her life or will she let him get away. Bon Appetit was a great fast read hope you enjoy it as much as i have.

Bon Appetit is book 7 in the Lucky Lady Casino Short Stories by Kathryn Shay. This book like the rest evolves around the Lucky Lady Casino.
Garrick known celebrity chef has fired to many people in his short time at the Lucky Lady Casino and now needs a sous chef…in comes young Chloe Masterson…
What happens next is a short, quick read, entertaining, chuckles, crows, snow storm and a relationship that’s out of the question or maybe not…

I enjoyed the book but have mixed feelings about the series, the book is great, I really liked it but miss the character development and story found in Katherine Shay’s full length novels.
This is the story of a curmudgeonly executive chef and his second in command who sees past the walls he has put up. It ends up being a feel good short story…….nothing wrong with it or the premise! I will read the rest of the series.
This is a short but sweet novella written with skill. Interesting characters and storyline which I enjoyed.
