BOMBSHELL FOR THE BLACK SHEEP is book three in Janice Maynard’s Southern Secrets series and brings the family full circle when the elusive brother returns with a family secret that will rock their foundation!
Hartley was mentioned in the previous two books in this series and we knew that he unexpectedly left town and there’s question about what he might have been doing in the company beforehand. This story brings him home with a secret that he’s not sure he wants to share with his siblings. He sets out to mend fences with the woman that rocked his world and stole a piece of his heart just prior to him leaving town because he needs a big favor.
Fiona let Hartey into her life not once, but twice only to have him tuck and run without saying goodbye and with no explanation, so to let him get away with it again, she’d be a fool … only he’s hard to resist, especially when she gets the whole story out of him. Problem is, she realizes she’s pregnant just as he’s decided he will never bring a child into this world.
I highly recommend this book and the entire series. Each sibling’s love story was commanding and heartfelt, and the series as a whole gave a really fulfilling story. I really enjoyed it and wish there were a few more siblings to hear about!
Bombshell for the Black Sheep by Janice Maynard is a fantastic book! This is the last book in her Southern Secrets trilogy! I enjoy reading about a bad boy like Hartley was. I enjoyed the storyline and the chemistry between Fiona and Hartley. Such a wonderful ending to a great trilogy.
Wow! Shocking surprises, feuding brothers and sexy couples! That’s what readers have to look forward to in Bombshell for the Black Sheep by Janice Maynard, the third book in her Southern Secrets series. Hartley Tarleton disappeared a year ago and his father and brother were not at all happy with him. Seems he took something with him that he shouldn’t have. He did return home once but he just saw Fiona James then. Well, he did more than see her. A little hanky panky may have been involved. Now Hartley is home for good and secrets of family history will come out.
This is a very well-written story with loveable characters and much going on. I loved watching Fiona and Hartley work on their HEA. I also loved getting to see the characters from the first two books in this story. A super finish to a great series!
What an amazing way to end a series.
Bombshell for the Black Sheep is the 3rd book in the Southern Secrets trilogy. And oh my what an ending!!!!
I read the entire book in less than 12 hours! In spurts between work, dinner making and homework helping of course!! I just couldn’t put it down.
There’s an abundance of family drama with Hartley returning after being gone for a year under suspicious circumstances. With his return comes more drama, family secrets and his growing weakness for Fiona. There chemistry is off the charts!!!
Such an amazing way to wrap things up.
3.5/5 stars
Bombshell for the Black Sheep is the final book in the Southern Secrets series. It can be read as a standalone, but knowing the secondary characters from previous books may make certain aspects of the story more enjoyable for the reader.
I struggled with how to rate this book. On the one hand, I generally enjoy Janice Maynard’s writing. However, this book didn’t hit the usual high mark for me. I found that there was a lot of telling vs showing in regards to the relationship between the main characters, emphasized by their constant inner dialogues and rehashing of thoughts already shared with the reader. As for the “telling”, at one point the heroine thinks to herself that the hero makes her happy. Up to that point the reader hasn’t actually seen that play out. Sure, the couple had amazing sexual chemistry and enjoyed a few nights together, but beyond that there was no evidence that the hero had a positive impact on the heroine’s life in any way. I will say that my heart absolutely broke for the heroine. She had a terrible start to her life and I was hopeful that she would get her happily ever after. I longed for her to have a family of her own. Sadly, the hero just didn’t cut it for me. In my opinion, he came across as a very indecisive and spoiled man. He wanted the relationship his way, and didn’t offer more than sex to the heroine. This was especially confusing to me when he was insistent about moving in. He did not want to be married or have a family, and convinced himself it would be okay to sort of enjoy their time together until it wasn’t okay anymore. He did a lot of taking, always insisting on her support in dealing with his family, but I saw very little giving on his side. For this reader, this is not a great quality in a hero.
So, why did I give the book 3.5 stars? Again, I loved our heroine. I wish we’d been able to see her interact more with others, but what little interaction we did see highlighted her genuinely kind heart and willingness to be there for others. As for the secondary characters, I was happy to see the previous couples enjoying their happily-ever-afters. Also, I liked the wrap-up of the family drama. Admittedly, the family drama was a little bananas, but in the entertaining way that many soap opera stories have played out. I was all-in on the family reconciliation!
While not a knockout for me, this book was an easy read and the drama was entertaining. Since entertainment value is what I’m after when I pick up a Harlequin Desire, I felt this book warranted at least the 3.5 stars.
Well this one ends this series and it was a bumpy ride for all involved, no spoilers from me, but it was exciting and a final HEA for all – enjoyed my paperback copy and will pass it on to a friend!
Bombshell for the Black Sheep by Janice Maynard is the final installment of the Southern Secrets trilogy. And what a finale it is! There are more twists and turns then a roller coaster in this story. Readers will get the explanation for Hartley Tarleton’s disappearance that they’ve been waiting for. Upon Hartley’s return to the family dynasty, we learn that he was been back in town a few times and during one of those visits, he meets Fiona James. Fiona brings a much needed calmness to what could be a very turbulent time in Hartley’s life, but she also has news that will send Hartley into a tailspin. Their chemistry is undeniable, but will they be able to make it last forever?
I did receive an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.
Bombshell for the Black Sheep is Southern Secrets book number 3 by Janice Maynard. Hartley pulled a disappearing act soon after he meet Fiona Tarleton despite their “instant connection”. Being the final book in the series the reasons for his leaving and the family conflicts are a big part of the story. Still he owed Fiona an explanation or at least a warning before it all comes out in the open. Still Fiona has secrets of her own that also need to come to light.
Entertaining story that is a fitting way to end the series with the Black Sheep returning home. It is a second chance romance that has other ties between the two main characters that is a surprise for Hartley. This will read okay as a stand-alone but the enjoyment will be enhanced if you had read the previous two books first. This is mostly to fully understand the problem relationship in Hartley’s family.
The publisher/author gave me a complimentary ARC of the book which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Bombshell for the Black Sheep is the 3rd book in the Southern Secrets Trilogy by Janice Maynard. Book 1 was Blame it on Christmas and Book 2 was A Contract Seduction. If you enjoy series that peek back at characters from previous stories, then read in order, otherwise each can be read as a stand alone. I am reading the trilogy in backwards order, which has been kind of fun actually.
I love a quick read that allows me to go through a variety of emotions along with the characters; ooooh, aaaah, yikes, a touch of disappointment even, and of course chemistry! The story of Fiona and Hartley did all of this and more. From the very first few paragraphs, I was completely pulled into this story. The descriptions are clear and put me right in the middle of the dialogue with the family issues as well as the desire between bad boy Hartley and sweet artist Fiona. I read this book while on vacation, it had me laughing and holding my breath and turning pages as fast as I could read them. The final happily ever after was so sweet and rewarding. I highly recommend this book and will be looking in to others written by Janice Maynard as well.
Oh how I wanted Hartley to be oh so bad and Janice didn’t disappoint. From the previous books you know that there was scandal between Hartley, his father and his twin brother Jonathan that caused Hartley to disappear for a year under suspicious circumstances. When he returns to town after a year of silence he shows up on the door of Fiona James. He had previously met Fiona before he left to handle the “suspicious circumstance” and they had a instant connection, landing them in bed together then and then once again three months ago. Fiona is shocked when he asks her to accompany him to meet with his family. Hartley is very aloof about where he has been and doesn’t explain to Fiona that she is about to walk into the lion’s den with this family. Especially his brother Jonathan.
The twist and turns that this story took, keep me turning the page until the very end.
You get the second chance romance with a bonus of a baby, family reunited, and of course the reformed Bad boy HEA.
If you haven’t read the previous two books in the Southern Secrets Series, you can read this book as a stand alone but it so much better if you have read Blame it on Christmas and A Contract Seduction before reading this one.
Bombshell for the Black Sheep is the final book in Janice Maynard’s Southern Secrets series. If anyone has followed this series, we knew that Hartley disappeared under mysterious circumstances. Upon his return to town, he immediately seeks out Fiona where we learn he has past with her. He discloses that his father has died and he needs her support as he faces his family for the first time since leaving. Fiona is unsure whether to trust him but soon we discover she also has her own secrets.
Why did Harley leave? Where was he and what did he uncover about his family? And what is Fiona keeping from him? Hartley’s story is the perfect ending to this series. I highly recommend reading Bombshell for the Black Sheep. This is a standalone book, but I suggest reading the other books in the series. They are all so good! I’d like to disclose that I received an advance copy and this is my true and honest review.
I’m pleased to say that I was fortunate enough the read an early copy in exchange for my honest review … This is the 3rd & final in Janice’s Southern Secrets & I’m happy to say that Hartley did not disappoint by any means . He returns after a long absence with many secrets & manages to seek out the Fiona for a favor or two regarding family . She’s been baffled regarding his unexplained exits & let’s just say that their chemistry is undeniable. As things unfold , there is a lot of family conflict & plenty of sizzle to keep the pages turning . I could hardly put this book aside because the build up was incredibly written & several of my favorite troupes in tact that added to this truly wonderful series about family , love & how HEA’s should end …. the way I like them too. Janice never disappoints! Highly recommended.
Wow what a fabulous ending for a series! Bombshell for the Black Sheep is the third book in the Southern Secrets trilogy and is it ever full of surprises. We have already seen how Mazie And Jonathan Tarleton deal with life’s problems and each find love. Now we get to meet Jonathan’s twin Hartley who had a falling out with the family and has been in Europe. Coming back home is heart wrenching because his father died before they could make amends. Now that he is back in Charleston to stay he has a lot of decisions to make regarding why he left and disclosing secrets to his siblings. What he has discovered about this family has left him in a quandary whether to tell his siblings or not is the question. Before leaving the country Hartley met Fiona and now he wants to reunite with her. She is torn because he has left her twice and she can’t trust him she also has a secret and she must decide what to!
“Bombshell for the Black Sheep” is the final book in Janice Maynard’s Southern Secrets trilogy.
We finally get to meet Hartley Tarleton when he returns to Charleston after mysteriously leaving the year before.
Artist Fiona James, who met Hartley months ago, tries to be strong around him and not allow him back into her life since he’ll only end up leaving again.
I really enjoyed “Bombshell for the Black Sheep”. Secrets were revealed and sexy times to be had as Hartley and Fiona found their happily-ever-after.
Ms. Maynard gives readers a very satisfying conclusion to the Southern Secrets miniseries.
Hartley is back, oh boy, Fiona is not happy about it. He needs a favor, Fiona wants to say no, but she agree only if Hartley tell her why he left her twice without goodbye. He finally tells her all about him and his trip to look for answers. She encourage him to tell his siblings about his findings, but he doesn’t want to burden them with painfull truth. While trying to rebuilt his relationship with his brother and sister, Hartley gets another shoking news, Fiona is pregnant.
This story is awesome, very well written.
