This is the fifth book in the series by this author and it’s really good. In this story, fourteenth century England is going through a time of turmoil as there is a rebellion taking place. Serfs and peasants are demanding change and rising up and causing death and destruction in their wake. It is against this backdrop that Lade Margery meets Lord Ancel. Margery has been victim of a horrific incident and is running to escape with her life. It is only by pure circumstance that Lord Ancel sees her, and as any knight in shining armor should, sweeps her up onto his horse and carries her away from immediate threat of harm. sigh. 😉
This is the beginning of their story which includes a cast of colorful and interesting characters, a plot with a few twists, some definite heat between Margery and Ancel, and of course their happily ever after.
I enjoyed this story especially in that the author was so descriptive of the settings in the story and emotions felt by characters. It is one of those stories I just hated to putdown until I reached the end.
I read this as an arc which affected my review in no way at all.
Lady Margery Ormond flees Highfield as the uprising begins and members of her noble family are slaughtered. Sir Ancel rescues her in the midst of battle and returns Margery to her home, swearing to protect her. Margery loses her heart to the dashing knight and is thrilled when the king decides to reward Ancel by gifting him with Highfield and marriage to Margery. Margery has been stuck in a life of drudgery and sadness feeling like there was no escape or hope. After that terrible night when she fled Highfield she was swept off her feet by Ancel. I very much enjoyed reading this book. Their story was such a sweet one to read. There were some twists and turns but you knew that Ancel would find a way for them to be together. This is Margery’s Cinderella story.
When the young King Richard the second came to the throne he needed the most trustworthy men for his personal guard. Sir Ancel de Montfort was honored to be given the duty.
When the peasants revolt takes place many of the nobility are killed by the rebels.
Lady Margery Osmond is little more than a slave in her stepfather’s house. He and his sons are vicious bullies. This behaviour will seal his fate.
This is an exciting journey into a troubled time in English history. Our wonderful hero has got a lot of travelling and organizing to do. Luckily he is well equipped to deal with it all.
Our heroine is a lot braver and stronger than she would ever have believed. She needs to be.
You will be pulled into the lives of our characters and enjoy every bit of it.
This is part of a series, but each book can be read on it’s own. They are linked by the family involved in each book. I have read all of them and they are all marvellous books.
