Body in the Woods:
4 stars
I have purchased a copy of The Reverend Annabelle Dixon Cozy Mysteries Book 3:Body in the Woods by Alison Golden and this review was given freely.
Eclectic characters like the outspoken Phillipa, the socially awkward anthropologist Dr.Robert Brownson, the easily irritated Inspector Nicholls, and the dessert loving, curious and at times persistent Reverend add color to the pages filled with rambling descriptions and conversations, multiple mysteries which are entwined with multiple love triangles, a murder, and a love match.
When eight year old Dougie Dewar trips over a skeleton in the woods of Upton ST. Mary, Detective Mike Nicholls tries to keep the quick witted Reverend Annabelle away from the investigation but town gossip situates her perfectly to solve the twenty year old murder case.
Grave in the Garage:

Suspenseful and action packed involving a few twist, puppies, and some surprises. As Reverend Annabelle laments the reduction in church funds and her friendship with Inspector Mike deepens, Phillia’s matchmaking escalates, and the village of Upton ST. Mary experiences another murder as well as a secret gambling ring.
Horror in the Highlands:
5 stars
I have purchased a copy of The Reverend Annabelle Dixon Cozy Mysteries Book 5: Horror in the Highlands by Alison Golden and this review was given freely.
Vivid descriptions, an eclectic group of colorful characters, and a series of oddities and mysteries fill the pages of this cozy mystery where Reverend Annabelle visits her brother Roger and niece Bonnie on the island of Blodraigh, Scotland where she finds herself having to solve the murder of pub owner Harry Anderson without the help of the police while isolated on a small island in the midst of a severe storm. Things escalate when a chance email results in a surprise visit from Inspector Mike.
A young boy named Dougie is running home through the woods, he falls down after tripping over a bone. When Dougie tells Reverend Annabelle Dixon they go to where he fell and discover it is a human forearm. This discovery sets in motion the reopening of a cold case that Reverend Annabelle Dixon, it seems, simply can’t leave alone. This is a combination of a Father Brown and Father Dowling mystery but with a woman who can help the police and solve a crime with compassion.
I loved it!
If you like small english villages, clean, fun mysteries then this series is for you. I am enjoying them and Reverend Annabelle Dixon. I love her spunk and the interaction between Annabelle and Inspector Nichols.
In reading “Body in the Woods”, I was introduced to Reverend Annabelle Dixon, the vicar of the village of Upton St. Mary in Cornwall, England, and her never ending will to help Detective Inspector Mike Nicholls solve crimes involving residents of her village. She has a way with people and can get information for the Inspector even if he tells her it is a police business, not hers. in this book, an eight year old boy stumbles upon the bones of a human forearm while he is playing in the woods. The police are called and find an entire skeleton buried where the boy told them he found it. Harper Jones, the coroner, is then called and determines that the bones are that of a female who was murdered about twenty years before their discovery. Annabelle starts talking to people, including the church secretary Philippa, and learns that 20 years prior to the discovery, a beautiful sixteen year old girl disappeared from the village. She tells the Inspector about her find and is determined to find out whether the bones did indeed belong to the missing girl and what exactly happened to her. We follow Vicar Annabelle as she puts together the clues and helps the police find out what happened in the village before she came to live there. The book is a fast and fun read reminding me of Agatha Christie’s “Miss Marple” and/or the heroine of the mysteries of “Murder She Wrote”.
Delightful cozy mystery. I enjoyed the story a great deal and expect that you will as well.
Enjoyed the book from beginning to the end.
not my type of book, just could not get into it
Good read.
Very good reading. Kept me wondering who did what. Will definitely read more from this author.
Well written, attention keeping, little suspense, fun book to read. Looking forward to the next book in this series.
Good cozy mystery !
Very predictable.
Love the character, love the series. More fun than the BBC series.
I usually solve the mystery quickly but this story kept me guessing. The main character felt approachable and there was plenty of action to keep me coming back to the book.
Fun book for losing time and getting away from it all.
Give it a couple of chapters before you decide to make a bad decision by putting the book down. I have to be honest, I found it was a little slow at the start. So happy that I gave it three chapters before I making a decision to end the book early.
Cleverly written, keeps you reading to the end.
Enjoyable read, excellent characters, didn’t want to put it down
Slow, couldn’t get in to it.
