Abducted and hidden away deep in the Rocky Mountains, Susan Bell is frantic to escape her murderous captor. Freshman Special Agent Burke Cameron is straight laced, traditionally minded, and comes with a hefty set of old-fashioned values. Burke doesn’t know what to do with the free spirited, progressive woman he’s falling for. He and Susan don’t want any of the same things and he knows he should … he should move on, but he can’t seem to resist her.
Burke and Susan’s world views are polar opposites and a lasting future together is impossible to imagine. But when a group of six women, including Susan, goes missing in the Colorado Rockies, their differences fall away, and all that matters to Burke is finding her. He enlists the help of his friend, Agent Kendra Dean and her FBI-K9 partner, Annie. As soon as they are on the trail, they realize they’re not simply searching for lost women—they are tracking a killer. They discover one body after another. Desperate to rescue Susan, Burke prays that the next body they find isn’t hers.
If you like thrilling suspense, then you’ll love Body Count.

(4.5) I love this series. K-9’s, FBI men and women, stong women! Susan and Burke are getting to know each other. When Susan goes to a retreat she is captured. Burke and his K-9 officers are on the hunt. The emotions of both come through. Burkes anguish, Susans emotions running the gamut from fear to hope. Then Jerrod. Something Susan said stuck with me….its all he knew.
Jodi has created another thrilling read. The story is captivating and the characters are engaging, and I love reading about the canines. The story line is original and keeps you on the edge of your seat until the last page is turned.
Susan Bell attends a retreat in the Rocky Mountains that is being held for a group of various women who own their own businesses. Recently, she met FBI Special Agent Burke Cameron and while they are attracted to each other, they have absolutely nothing in common. Five of the women at the retreat had signed up for an overnight camping trip. The next day the five women and their guide do not return when they are supposed to. Agent Cameron, concerned for Susan, goes to check it out. They have disappeared and then the remains of a body is found. As the body count rises, they realize they are dealing with a serial killer. As Agent Cameron enlists the aid of FBI agent Kendra and her K-9 partner Annie, they wonder if they can find Susan before it is too late. Lots of twists, turns and actions make this a great story.
Another great story that draws you in right away. Jodi Burnett is auickly climbing my favorite authors list. Susan had finally made her big decision to quit her job & pursue her dream of running her own business. She had signed up for a convention for small business. It was a rafting trip. Burke was nervous about not being able to communicate with Susan for the 10 days but kept it to himself. The trip started out okay but soon took a turn for the worst. Susan and her team members were so scared when their guide & another team member were found dead. They decided to try to find help so they struck off. As Susan friends were picked off one by one they were devastated . Susan & Kiara were the last ones left when they learned what was stalking them. Her will and fight to survive this dangerous situation will keep you on edge. A great series that will draw you in.
This is the first book by Jodi Burnett I have experienced and really enjoyed it. The story moves forward at a good pace and has an interesting plot that wraps nicely around the budding romance between the two main characters, Susan and Burke. There are also Kendra, Rick, Clay and their FBI K9 companions Annie and Ranger, who apart from Annie featured in the first book; however this novel can be read as standalone.
You can expect a good amount of suspense and action and the human and canine interaction is natural and flows well. The characters are well rounded and have intelligent and insightful conversations. At first I was a little concerned that the focus would be mainly on canine scenes and overpower the crime plot, but was pleased to find that the balance was just right.
I won’t recap the story line here, since the book synopsis takes care of that and I don’t want to risk spoilers, just to say that overall I enjoyed the novel and anyone who loves a thrilling crime book, with dogs added should give it a go.
This audio book is narrated by Kimberly Austin. She has a pleasant voice and speaks as a good tempo with concise and clear diction. While the individual characters don’t have very distinguishable accents (voices), it isn’t necessary, as the way the story is written makes it clear who is talking.
I received this book in audio book format from the author and am leaving this review of my own volition.
A tense, page -turner, which will suck you in and only release you at its end.
Body Count (FBI-K9 #2), my third read from author Jodi Burnett. December seemed to be my month for new authors and January looks to continue the trend. So good I went right out and got this book. Another excellent read, enjoyable and captivating in its detail and development, this time it’s one of their own. I’m voluntarily reviewing it because every good books need reviews. I look forward to more from this author and in this series, in fact, I’m going out and get Concealed Cargo: Children for Sale (FBI-K9 #3) next. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).
Jodi Burnett is getting better and better in writing Suspense/Romance. I read this one in three days! Her characters are three-dimensional and her incredible description of place put you right in the middle of the action. I love the use of FBI canines in this series and they are well-written characters in the events. Eagerly awaiting book three in the series!
Body Count is another wonderful read by Jodi Burnett! It incorporates her flair for combining mystery, adventure, suspense and romance into a story that is very difficult to put down, and makes the reader hungry for the next sequel! I recommend this book highly for anyone who enjoys a fantastic read. I always enjoy reading Ms. Burnett’s works.
This is Jodi Burnett at her best. I’ve read several of her books and I liked this one the best. This book is intense in the best way possible. Don’t miss out on this book by Jodi..you’ll be sorry if you do.
Body Count is another page-turner story that I had to read in one sitting.
I enjoyed to go back and read more about Susan and Burke because I loved them in the first book and they definitely needed more time to grow their relationship and feelings.
Somehow, the author manages to surprise me every time I try a new book by her.
She writes turning points that I personally haven’t read much before and maybe it’s because I lived sheltered in big cities around the world and, as crazy as it sounds, it always gave me a fake safety sensation but it’s quite interesting to see how everything develops in this story and how, even after reading the books, I go back and think about those situations, what would I do and how would I react to them.
Susan is a smart and strong independent woman and she amazed me with her abilities to keep herself in check during everything she went through but also for her compassion at the end, something that many people would not even think about giving a second of their thoughts. Burke is the perfect hero in every possible way and together they are the perfect couple to a happily ever after story.
I read this book non stop. It´s full of action and as you read the story is just want to finish to understand what happened, why and who did it. The writer describes the places so well that you can almost feel the leaves of the trees, the dogs sniffing and looking for trails, the dampness, the fear, I just loved it! The criminal has a different mind set as his upbringing is nothing like one in our days, which may explain his behaviour but not his actions. A very entertaining book.
I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
This was a good second novel in the series. We get to see deeper into more characters. Love the dog interactions. It was entertaining and I highly recommend it.
A second terrific book in this series by Ms. Burnett. Susan Bell barely escaped certain death at the hands of a serial killer in the first book. She decides that it is time to go after the life and career that she wants. Attracted to F.B.I. Agent Burke Cameron was not in her plans…they seem so different, but will spending time together bring them closer together or tear them apart? The book begins with Susan and a group of women on a woman’s empowerment retreat, but when things go deadly wrong, will she be strong enough to survive again? Burke, along with F.B.I. Agents Rick Sanchez, Kendra Dean and her K9 partner Annie join the search for the missing women. As time runs out and the body count rises, will they find Susan alive? Loved the strong characters, the suspenseful story and updates on Rick and Kendra from the first book. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation from the author. On the afternoon that that should have been back hours earlier they called the FBI. So now Kendra, Rick, Burke & Clay along with Annie, Ranger and Gunner we’re going to head up to where they left from.
So both parties are hiking, but the ones held captive are more tired and have had less food and water. But not all the folks on the FBI team are trained for this.
You REALLY MUST READ this book to fill in the gaps of which women and how they were killed and to find out what the endgame was for the killer and the 2 girls he has left. And to read what the K9 handlers go through and even more what the dogs do. This was an amazing read.
