What would you do if your hubby announced that he wanted to downsize and move onto a sailboat? Mollie McGhie loves her beachfront cottage. When her husband announces that he wants to sell the house, downsize, and move onto their dilapidated sailboat, she’s not impressed. When the boat starts leaking, she secretly hopes it will sink. Instead, they haul her out of the water and into the boatyard. … haul her out of the water and into the boatyard. Fixing the boat up is bad enough, but when Mollie finds someone has been killed nearby, things get even worse.
Mollie takes matters into her own hands and investigates the mysterious death in the boatyard, along with her adorable feline companion, Mrs. Moto. While she searches for clues, she meets more of the quirky characters who live in the small Floridian town of Coconut Cove, learns about sea turtles, overcomes her fear of public speaking, and, of course, eats way too many sugary treats.
Can Mollie catch the killer before someone else ends up dead?

Scooter and Mollie are a married, rather oddball couple, yet entertaining characters who spend a lot of time at the Marina where their fixer-upper boat is moored. Since Scooter purchased the boat, the Marina has been plagued by murders and Mollie’s like a magnet when it comes to stumbling over dead bodies. They’ve adopted a cool calico cat named Mrs. Moto, and she goes back and forth with them from their cottage to the boat. The supporting cast of characters are quirky, as well, and keep levity in the plot scenes.
Book 2 is a keen cozy mystery revolving around sea turtle nesting, poaching, blackmail and murder. There are several fishy-acting suspects to untangle as to who had the greatest motive, means, and opportunity. I liked this enjoyable, relaxing cozy mystery.
I reviewed a digital arc provided by the author for an honest review. Thank you.
Actual rating 4.25.
This was a fun follow-up to an overall fun series, which I am completely reading out of order.
The main reason I didn’t give this book a 5 is that I guessed who the bad guy was early in the book. Still, Jacobson entertained me throughout the story leading up to the big reveal.
There were more characters introduced in this installment and sometimes I got a little lost, but since each book includes a cool rundown of all the characters, I quickly got back on track and simply enjoyed the story.
The suspense level increased in this volume and there was a bit more violence, but nothing graphic and mostly happening “off-screen”, if that makes sense.
Highly recommended to fans of cozy mysteries, humor, and this series.
This is a compelling mystery with fabulous characters. I love Mollie. This book is well-written with plenty of twists to keep me guessing to the end. I have now read the first 2 books and loved them so I am looking forward to the next book by this author.

What do you do when your husband is Mr. Oblivious and has his heart set on selling your house and moving onto a rundown sailboat? Mollie has many options in mind and none of them means her moving on the sailboat that is her husband’s dream. When the boat starts leaking, Mollie secretly hopes it will sink but instead it is hauled to the boatyard for repairs. It is there that Mollie comes face to face with a dead body and finds herself mixed up in another murder mystery.
This is a humorous cozy mystery filled with wacky characters, a cat with a special personality, lots of madcap adventure, and a mystery ready to be solved by a precocious amateur sleuth.

Scooter explores the possibility of their living on the boat, but Mollie doesn’t want to give up the cottage. That’s the least of her worries, what with the dead bodies, an insidious real estate plot, and the real possibility that the Marjorie Jane may sink. Bodies in the Boatyard is a solid mystery with a hilarious narration. I recommend the entire series.

A Fun Mystery. The 2nd book in the Mollie McGhie series is so much fun. I love Ms. Jacobson’s voice (Mollie’s) and her attitude toward living aboard a boat. Poor Scooter. He never has a clue. But Mollie is good at searching for and following clues to the murder of not one but two people. Some situations she gets into are silly but typical Mollie. The cast of characters are diverse and entertaining. I’d love to meet them. Looking for an entertaining read? Try Bodies in the Boatyard.

This was so much fun. Mollie and Mrs. Moto search for clues in their latest mystery as they move to a boatyard, and come across a dead body. Of course with Mrs. Moto on the case how could you not solve it? ( My cats never seem to be of that much help just so you know.) Lots of laughs and intrigue. I loved it!!
