“Big-city crime hits a small town in the Adirondacks, and an eclectic and well-developed cast of characters leads us through this hilarious, engaging mystery.” –Sublime Book ReviewPolice Chief Norris Tanager is one happy guy. He came to the Adirondacks because he heard small-town cops spend their days helping kittens cross the road and rescuing little old ladies out of trees. Or something like … ladies out of trees. Or something like that. And so far, things have been quiet as promised.
Paul Briar is not so happy. He came to these mountains to spark some romance in his marriage. Now his wife is missing and presumed drowned.
And poor Dr. Simon Reesor is downright devastated. He came here to practice medicine in a small hospital. Last night his wife was brutally murdered, blown up in her car.
Police Chief Norris Tanager came to these beautiful mountains to escape the ugliness of the big city. Too bad. Seems like ugly just follows some cops around.

I loved this novel! The characters are well-developed and original. It moves along at a great pace, with a plot and dialogue that can’t be beat. I would highly recommend this book to anyone that likes a fast-paced mystery with a healthy dose of humor.
Few times ever I have read a book that actually makes me laugh… the main character uses very witty and funny expressions… I surely recommend this book…
I didn’t even finish chapter one. The “F” word was already used a couple of times. Then they introduced the character, Simon, who was by profession an OBGYN. The resulting ribald description of his job was the final straw that turned me off.
Why use such crude and offensive language?
Not what I expected but couldn’t put it down. Can’t wait for the next one!
Author has humor I like..
I enjoyed the plot and characters in this book. I also enjoyed the “scenery” and descriptions of what things were like in the Adirondacks. The ending was mostly a surprise to me so that was the reason I kept reading. However, I almost stopped reading it several times due to all the “f-words”. I can overlook a few tossed about here and there in a book but this book had way too many. It’s a shame that the author felt the need to use it so many times. I would not pick up another of his books to read due to what I felt was over use of that one particular word.
i think this is his first book i hope there is more 9n the way using the same setting and characters
Small town mysteries are always fun to read because the cast of characters can be surprisingly quirky. It just goes to show that there is scandal everywhere. These short mysteries are such quick reads that don’t bog down. They keep me guessing. I like Richard Adamson’s style that adds the right touch of humor to otherwise deadly scenarios.
good read
Witty writing! A fun, quick read!
Very enjoyable
Made me laugh out loud. Very clever but kept me interested and I wanted to know how it ended.
I liked this book. Two story lines mixed together. Some humor, history about fly fishing but not boring, dective work, good story. I am looking for more from this author
Simply life ,local sheriff ,funny easy read
Although the story was interesting in the beginning, there were many errors. The most glaring error was that one of the ancillary characters last name would change. The author really needs to look back and see what he has written before continuing the story. Descriptions of characters would change. I’m not even sure what the main character’s first name is. It was never mentioned in the book. the ending was somewhat disjointed and didn’t make much sense. It was disappointing since I enjoyed the story until about half way through the book.
Very well written and funny book.
Couldn’t get into it…non sympathetic protagonist.
An all-around great read.
Good characters
I read this book in one night and looked for more thinking this was a series but to my disappointment I couldn’t find any others by this author in this series. Great story.
