Tony and Kate (a/k/a Lord Anthony And Lady Hetheridge), are still recovering from a near-death case which threatened their family. Kate is having a tougher time than Tony, or, so it would seem.
When he finally talks her into spending a week in London, she reluctantly goes. Almost as soon as they arrive, their old colleague Paul entreats them to become involved with his new case. You won’t believe the murder weapon! (Kate and Paul are old friends and partners, but Kate is still on medical leave. She tags along anyway.)
The victim is an elderly man, and there is another corpse in the room too. The house is filthy. There is no electricity or bathroom facilities. This guy was a multi-millionaire?? The house is full of lookie-loos and the man who found the body has left the scene – an emergency at home he claims.
Kate, Paul and Tony soon discover that the man was universally disliked. He hated his neighbors and was very nasty to them. The neighbors equally hated him. When they learn how he made his millions, they understand why. Apparently, he just hoards the money; he certainly doesn’t spend it on his falling down house.
This is a well written and plotted little novel. The characters are colorful and interesting. There are some humorous spots in the plot. I liked the main characters: Tony, Kate, Paul and Em. Even the suspects and the bad guys were fun. I have read most of Ms. Jameson’s Tony and Kate books and have not yet been disappointed. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and look very much forward to reading the next in the series.
Witty, exciting and easy-to-read. Exceptional characters.
Highly Recommended.
Enjoyed this series!
I enjoyed all the books n this series. Good character development and the leads are interesting and likeable.
Blue Christmas by Emma Jameson
Kate is recovering from “the roof” trauma, and a week in London, just relaxing, might help her find her balance . . . or perhaps a perplexing case could be even better medicine. The Scrooge-like victim does remind me of A CHRISTMAS CAROL, and contrasts completely with Tony and Kate’s generous ways. There’s also the matter of Paul’s mother vs. girlfriend woes to be sorted. I don’t want to give too much away because it’s fun to follow the clues. Sixth in the series, and I hope there will be many more.
This is the last in a series (at least for now). I have enjoyed the whole series and it’s interesting characters. Usually I tire of books in a series but not this one. Hoping for book #7.
Excellent series, Emma Jameson is my favorite writer
I enjoy the writing of this author because there is a little romance mixed in with the crime.
This series is TERRIFIC! Keep writing about them, Emma! I will buy every novel.
“Blue Christmas” is another delightful installment in the Lord & Lady Hetheridge mystery series. Tony, Kate and Paul make a terrific team. Emma Jameson always infuses each book with humor as she weaves an interesting puzzle.
Excellent!
Great story! Wonderful characters. Could use a bit more proofreading. Otherwise, a winner!
Loved this book! I love the whole series can’t wait for the next one!
Not as good as the first ones, I just wish that she would get back to focusing on the detection and less on past issues. Still one of my favorites.
Love this series
Great. Love the series
Another great installment to one of my favorite mystery series. Set in modern-day London, the characters are complicated and messy, and I absolutely love them. Sometimes humorous, always romantic, and thrilling, these books run the gamut of emotion.
In book #5 Kate and Tony faced off with a psychopath (a story arc that had been building for a few books), and now in Blue Christmas, they’re left to deal with the aftermath of the traumatic showdown while investigating a surprising murder with elements similar to Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. I really liked that the author didn’t shy away from the topic of PTSD. Too many mystery novels fail to address the consequences of surviving a traumatic event and tend to just skim over a detective’s recovery and emotional trauma. While the series handles some tough subjects, the books always leave me with a positive feeling. Highly recommend the series!
