A cold case turns red-hot when a death-row inmate renews his acquaintance with Dr. Kay Scarpetta in this “utterly chilling” (Entertainment Weekly) #1 New York Times bestseller.Settling into her new life as a private forensic consultant, Kay Scarpetta agrees to investigate a cold case in Louisiana—the baffling eight-year-old murder of a woman with a history of blackouts and violent outbursts. Then … blackouts and violent outbursts. Then she receives news that chills her to the core: Jean-Baptiste Chandonne—the vicious and unrepentant Wolfman who pursued her to her very doorstep—has asked to see her. Always a twist that’s not expected. It’s the real deal.
Cornwall writes like a house afire, and I both dread and look forward to her next books.
Suspending and a good read until the end when it kind of just comes to a screeching halt. Ending is confusing and I don’t really like the characters.
I enjoyed this installment of the Scarpetta series. With the exception of the way a certain character returned. I won’t say more because I don’t want to include spoilers.
Any book in the Kay Scarpetta series is excellent. I picked this one to review because it was so realistic. It is so interesting to read about forensic details in these murder mysteries, along with her ‘love life’ and cooking skills. What a mix and done beautifully in each book. I think I have about 24-25 of her books! I like all the …
Not up to her usual standard. The 3rd person narration was jarring.
Patricia’s Scarpetta novels are getting to be kinda lacking in what gets me to want to read a book. I feel like someone forgot to take their anti-depressants!!!
talk about sad to see a once great writer turning out this level of mess, hard to believe how goos some of her earl work is when I read this – yuk
Her books do not disappoint.
Not her best book. Disappointing
Couldn’t finish!
I found this book a bit tedious. The end was just crash and burn, let’s just resolve this plot. Too convoluted, too scattered. I got through it but it required resolve.
I have read Patricia Cornwell from her first Kay Scarpetta book, and she never disappoints! Each book is carefully crafted as an extension to the one before it. In this way, we are kept in a world with characters that we begin to consider as family. I am a forensic psychologist, and read very little fiction but I make an exception when a new …
I usually love her books but did not like this one it jumped around too much with so many different people.
Always a great read with Pat Cornwell
Keep looking
I loved this book. Scary and fast paced.
Could not put this down
This book was harder to get into because it went back and forth from past to now so quickly I had a hard time keeping up
I really enjoyed this book. Had a hard time putting it down. Love her stories.
