A Vampire, a Shifter, and a Fae… Bad joke or the start to the best time of my life?It all started when I was doing some bare-back riding with my boyfriend, Tommy, atop a rock in Middle-of-Nowhere, Nevada. In walks a wolf like he’s my mom on a meth trip, staring at us and growling like he’s an over-protective husband. Worse, according to Tommy, I’m growling back. Next thing I know, Tommy is … thing I know, Tommy is halfway across the desert and I’m at an elite academy for Witches, Shifters, Vampires, and Fae looking like I was plucked out of the local trailer park. Oh wait, I was.
Bloodwood Academy for the Supernatural has only one rule: Don’t mingle with students outside your race.
So, of course, that just so happens to be the first thing I do. How can you say no to a Fae God with golden eyes, a moody Werewolf with pack issues, and a Vampire with magic fingers.
My men are not only sending everything into a whirlwind, but now my life is in danger.
It turns out that if I don’t go back to my single wide, some jealous females are going to rip my throat out.
I need to figure out why I’m connected to all of them, and why the headmaster has it out for me, before I find myself ten feet under.
At 90k words Bloodwood Academy is a full-length why choose romance with a snarky heroine, shirtless men, love scenes that will send you swooning, and no end to pulsing… muscles.
It’s not just Rae Fox, it’s Rae Foxx. There’s too much steam here for just one x.

I couldn’t put this book down. The main character had me rolling with laughter from page one. Not too much character development as far as the harem so far, but I didn’t care. Sexy, steamy, and fun! Can’t wait to check out the next one.
Ivy is a unique MC – she has grown up in the trailer park, and while she is trying to make the best out of her life, others are trying to keep her down. I like her spirit, perseverance, sass, and fierceness. Finn, Saxon, and Howl are each unique. I think Finn is my favorite at this point 🙂 Thankfully Book 2 is already out, so I can go binge that 🙂
I loved this book it grabbed my attention right away and wouldn’t let it go. I loved how sassy the man character is and how she wasn’t just a damsel in distress
I loved it. Really original story that had me giggling, swooning, gasping and tearing up! This was a great read it grabbed my attention from page one! Be ready to blush from the beginning. Fmc (Ivy) is awesome, snarky, strong and hilarious. There is so much heat, Chemistry everywhere. The guys…all different all fantastic in there own rights. This is story with more than just mean girls there is a whole plot of jack@ss people coming for Ivy. (Who do we trust?) Full of supernaturals (vampire, Fae, shifters and Mages).. and it’s not just sex and bullying like lot of these books it has a really interesting story too that I’m invested in figuring out. Definitely will continue this series. Highly recommend!
Hot diggity damn.. this book was so addictive, I was so captivated I don’t not want to put it down… Need the next one… Totally in love with this authors work .. I need more ..more damn it. Highly recommend. Do it read it….
Overall 4.75 stars
Note: I received this book from the author and I voluntarily give this review, it is my honest opinion.
Facebook is wildly popular, I’ve always hated for some reason, I have other social media platforms but stayed away from Facebook until an author that I love started an ARC group and the only way I could join the group was to join Facebook, I had no other choice. Since then I have joined a few other groups and I get the best recommendations from them and also info on new and upcoming releases.
I love a good paranormal reverse harem, it’s my thing, so when I discovered a new paranormal academy reverse harem, I had to check it out, The Blackwood Academy Shifter Semester One gave such a good description I instantly wanted it. I was lucky enough to win an ARC of the story and OMG!!! I loved it so much, while I did have a little problem with “trailer trash” syntax in the beginning, the story got much better for me and it got a whole lot smuttier too, this isn’t a slow-burn this is fast-burn and very very hot.
The main character, Ivy Potter, is as feisty as they come, she doesn’t take any crap from anyone, she’s brave and the stuff she says sometimes, I was cracking up. While Ivy is trying to adjust to the supernatural world and her new school shit goes down, things never go smooth with a school full of snobs and a girl from the wrong side of the tracks. However, Ivy is surviving and that is thanks to a few good friends and her mates.
I want to say so much about the mates but I don’t want to give to much away so I am just gonna mention one mate, Finn, he is fae and I love him so much. Don’t get me wrong I love the others too but out of the group, Finn is my favorite. He treats Ivy so lovingly and you can tell he really cares for her and would do anything for her, he gives her a nickname and I just love it, it makes me smile every time he calls her that. Finn is also a super-freak and that combined with his personality makes for some interesting times.
The plot was really interesting it kinda reminds me of the TV series The Originals and Legacies but it has evil roaming about that I is kinda worse than Satan himself, I mean the bad guys aren’t just like bad but truly awful but every hero needs a villain right. Ivy has to deal with so much and all of the people who aren’t the best but I have a theory about one of her professors, I think he was trying to give Ivy some hints about something and I can’t wait to see if I’m right.
The Blackwood Academy Shifter Semester One is one of my favorite reverse harems this year I enjoyed the story so much and I especially like Ivy with her mates. There is so much going on and the mystery of Ivy is just beginning I can’t wait to see what happens next, I already have the second book per-ordered and I hope I get a few of my questions answered.
Bloodwood Academy Shifter, Semester 1
by Rae Foxx
TLDR: This is the one of the most well-written RH books I’ve read, and the best debut book I’ve read in this genre. GET THIS BOOK.
ARC: I received an Advance Reader’s Copy in exchange for an honest review. I also purchased this book when it came available for pre-order.
Technical stuff: This story is a paranormal reverse harem romance with were-animals, vampires, fae and witches/mages. This is a bullying, Academy book.
There is a lot of explicit (well written, and very hot) sex in the story line, as well as NSFW language. I did not feel that the sex was gratuitous, but part of the story. There is some verbal abuse, verbal and physical bullying, and violence (both domestic and “general”) which may be triggering for some. If these bother you, then perhaps this isn’t the book for you.
The story is told in first person, from several people’s perspectives. There is a cliff-hanger ending in the overarching story line although several parts of the “immediate” story are resolved within the book. It stands alone, though it is clear that there is more to the story.
Opinions and overview of story (with minor spoilers):
Ivy Potter is living a “dead end” life in the middle of Nevada with her mother, and spends time with her boyfriend. Her father walked out on them years before, and the life of relative affluence (upper middle class/upper class) left when he did. She and her boyfriend encounter wolves on a camping trip, and when she returns home is met by a clearly wealthy woman advising her that she has a scholarship waiting for her at the Academy.
Ivy is sent off to the Academy where it is made clear to her that she is from the “wrong side of the tracks”, and that students and staff have no intention of making her transition to Academy life easy or pleasant. The one absolute rule at the Academy is no interspecies dating.
Ivy is a kick-ass, take-no-prisoners, sarcastic, tough-as-titanium lady, and it’s a damn good thing, since she’s going to have to be.
We also learn more about the culture: violence tends to be the driving force behind the Alpha and his control over the shifters. We learn that interspecies children are killed “for everyone’s safety”, and that power is all. Historically, it used to be acceptable for different species to date and mate, and it wasn’t uncommon for a woman to have multiple mates, but this is no longer allowed.
Throw in a mate who refuses to declare himself, a Headmaster who would love to see Ivy dead, a mysterious family history that makes Ivy a target, Ivy’s challenges in submitting to the shifter Alpha, girls who are bitchy snobs, boys who are too interested in Ivy, a roommate that is nice but not particularly powerful, a Librarian that makes multiple copies of herself, and you get a sense of who the main players are and perhaps where things might go.
I definitely enjoyed the story, the sex scenes are incredibly fun and HOT, the emotions and relationships feel remarkably authentic.
I cannot recommend this book enough. (YOU MUST READ IT! 😉 )
**** I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy ****
This is a FREAKING 5 STAR BOOK AND A MUST READ!!!
Wow, this book is a great start to an Academy Series. If you want an Academy book to read than this book is the one to read. Rae Foxx has a lot of elements in this book that just flows together.
Your main character is Ivy Potter who is from the wrong side of the tracks but wants more out of life. Her environment is not the best but she is trying to make it work til she can get out. One night with her boyfriend Tommy changes her life. Tommy is not too bad looking either however not the smartest person but after their night he wants nothing to do with her. Then someone shows up to offer her a place a Bloodwood Academy. However, something weird happens but Ivy just places it in the back of her mind. She gets to school and meets her room mate who is pretty cool. Then she meets Finn, Howl and Saxon some of the hottest guys she has seen. Then there is Selene who is not a nice person and she is not the only to bully Ivy. Ivy is not going down without a fight. She is a tough girl, witty, sarcastic and just all around AWESOME CHICK. A lot of things happen through out the book that are are intriguing AND HOT AS SIN!!! Unfortunately, I am not willing to give away any information and trust me when I say you need this book in your life. You will not regret it.
**********Contains Spoilers**********
Ivy went on a camping trip in the Nevada desert with her boyfriend Tommy when out of the blue three giant a*se wolves show up and then Tommy starts freaking out and screaming about Ivy’s eyes changing colour and about her growling, to make matters worse Ivy hears a voice in her head while she’s staring into one of the Wolves eyes and she feels some type of connection with the Wolf but they turn around around leave. Tommy is still having his meltdown and leaves Ivy there and when he arrives back in the morning he doesn’t talk to her and then tells her that he doesn’t want to be with her anymore. He was a complete w*nker to her. I think she made a lucky escape even though she doesn’t think so. She finds out that the Wolves were actually shifters and that she’s also one and she’s been accepted into Bloodwood Academy on a full scholarship. When Ivy arrives at the Academy she has to deal with Nicky the snobby headmistress and her mean girl niece Selene who thinks she’s better than anyone. I loved Scarlet, Ivy’s roommate and she’s a true friend. Little does Ivy know but her time at Bloodwood Academy isn’t going to be easy and seems to be making enemies wherever she goes. It also doesn’t Ivy long to break the sacred rule of no inter-species matings or having multiple mates. There’s Finn whose from the original line of Fae so pretty much a Prince. I loved how he calls her Honeybee, next there’s Saxon whose a Vampire. I love how he calls Ivy his Rose and last but not least there’s Howl whose a Wolf Shifter and has a sadistic a*sehole for a father, Pater who happens to be the Alpha. I loved how he calls Ivy Little Wolf. This book was thrilling from start to finish and I can’t wait to see what trouble Ivy and her mates get into next. I’d definitely recommend this book, series and authors to everyone.
Ivy’s life couldn’t get any worse her Dad left her Mums a druggie and now she’s arguing with her BF . Then a women turns up and tells her she’s has a place at a supernatural academy and that she’s a shifter what else can go wrong. I really enjoyed listening to this and I can’t wait for book 2 the narration by Isla Blackthorne was really good.
Series Review:
I hated Tommy right off the bat. That boy is a jerk! At least in the beginning. He just ran away like a little punk after the incident on the camping trip! That really upset me but things change later on in the series.
Okay with that off my chest lets get on with the rest of the review.
The MC is amazing and well written. I love her attitude and personality. She is thrown for a loop when she finds out shes a wolf and only 17 years behind in training and knowledge. That will be easy to catch up on right? Well nothing is ever that easy she as to over come many hurdles to get to happiness and even learn forgiveness. Each character grown and matures through out the series and it was wonderful to read.
The steamy scenes are on point in this series as well and some MM was introduced which I enjoyed. The series was well balanced between the story and sexy time which I feel can be a hard thing to accomplish and was done well here.
I highly recommend this series and hope who ever reads it loves it like I did!
