Arguh ! Cliffhanger, cliffhanger, cliffhanger ! Dang it ! I realy really wanted to know who lived and who did what and….. I’ll just have to wait.
Great fun, lots of death, magic, semi lusty feelings (i think, it’s complicated), backstabbing, power struggles and a cute bat.
This books starts of a bit after where the last book ended. The ending from last book gave am a bit of hope for the characters. But it is soon apparent that things are not turning for the better that was first believed. Much like last book this book was very story and characters, but we also get a great amount of action here. We also learn so much more background of both story and characters.
As with last book we get a couple more POV in this one and you would think it be confusing but it really is not and adds so much more to the story. The crew is still separated for the most part and everyone is trying to find and save someone.
Of course a parts is centered on Aeduan and Iseult but also, I think, equal parts all the other people. The truce was broken as we know and with that the war is raging. Everyone is fighting and trying to escape somewhere.
There are plenty of twist in this book, I got to the point that I didn’t know who to trust, and mostly did not see things coming. The last 150-200 pages were insane and nonstop action, surprises and emotional.
There were also some really interesting characters developments, that I didn’t see coming but ended up really likening.
The end was brutal. What a hell of a cliffhanger. If you are not good with cliff hanger maybe wait for the next book to release.
Several characters we know and love may or may not make it …. That is pretty much where she left us with. That is all I can say, without spoiling things.
Overall I really loved this book and highly recommend this series to any and all fantasy lovers. Even with the major cliffhangers.
I give this book full 5 and now will ever so penitently wait for the next book.
I don’t think I have the words to express my feelings. Just – wow! The witchlands, characters, plot, dialogue… I’m not sure why I’m so surprised. It might be slotted as YA, but I think anyone would enjoy it.
The first of the series took me a little bit of time to adjust to the world building and to figure out what is going on. Going into book two was a great transition. I most enjoyed the setup for going into Bloodwitch.
By the time I started this book, I was already highly invested in the background and future of this book’s focus: the bloodwitch, Aeduan. He initially comes off as the “bad guy” and who doesn’t love when they turn out to be a hero?
I love that Susan continually weaves in more POVS, that the characters you want more of still remain crucial to the following books. This is a fantastic book three – I loved it – and can’t wait for book four to release.
This series is absolutely holding me hostage right now. I am so enamored with it and it’s got a hold of me by the neck, scarcely allowing me to breathe. I just can’t get enough of these characters and this incredible world.
One of the things that makes this series stand out so much is the extremely detailed world-building. This world is just beautiful. There are so many elements to this world and Dennard weaves them together seamlessly to create something truly unique and powerful. The complexity of the world-building is mind-blowing and just darn right impressive. You could get lost in this world for days and never want to find your way home.
Another thing that really shines in this series would be the characters. Dennard is so skilled in creating relationships between characters that really capture the reader’s attention. Her characters really seep into your soul as your reading the story. The characters come to mean so much to the reader because Dennard just really makes the reader care what happens to them. I also like that her characters are multi-faceted. They have so much depth and they experience so much growth as the series progresses.
The plot of this series is just mind-blowingly good. There are so many gears turning in the story that the reader is completely on the edge of their seat. The story has so many layers and Dennard only shows us a little bit at a time so that the story unfolds beautifully. All of the different elements to the story are so complex and I can’t imagine all the work that went into the creation of this series. Susan Dennard is just brilliant.
Overall, this is another installment of the Witchlands series that has totally captured my heart. These characters and this world are among some of the best that I have ever read. I am such a fangirl for this series and I can’t wait for the next book!
If you have been reading The Witchlands series, you know you have been dying to read about our Bloodwitch Aeduan and we have FINALLY got his book and OH MAN, it was everything and more than I was expecting, don’t you agree?
Aeduan’s story continue were we left off on the last book, but we also got everything we wanted, we got his back story, we got his feelings, we got to understand his powers. Holy crap, it was so much in one book, that once I started, I couldn’t stop, I didn’t want to stop and I didn’t want to end.
Of course we got our favorite Treadwitch Iseult teamed up with Aeduan and these two and my favorite duo, my favorite couple and their story are everything to me, they go through so much together and that ending? I’m not ready for that to be it, I need more of them and I’m sure we are going to get more, right Susan?
And can we talk about our little magical girl Owl? That little girl is a beast, she is freaking amazing and the best thing that bring those two together, I need a little Owl in my life and I wouldn’t mind her little friend to come along too 🙂
Okay, Okay…I feel like I have just been gushing about Aeduan and Iseult and Owl but seriously guys, the book was amazing, so much action happens in this book, Aeduan and Iseult fight their way through so much and they just don’t give up even when things are at their worst and things really take turns they never thought would come on their way. They fight armies and raiders and enemies and find unexpected help on the way too. SO GOOD.
The only thing I have left to say is please read the series and if you haven’t read Bloodwitch yet, go ahead and start NOW.
5 out of 5 stars
I got a preview from NetGalley and then went ahead and bought the book after 🙂
Another fantastic edition to the witchland series! I can’t WAIT to read the next book! <3
This world and its characters are as rich as ever and the adventure just as thrilling. I can’t waiiiiit for the next one!
