Bloodties definitely is not a stand-alone novel. I want that made clear. In fact, I re-read Her Legacy prior to reading Bloodties just to make sure I didn’t forget any of the details or characters. This book really starts to let the mystery behind Alexis’s family and the Knights’ order come out. This one isn’t as spooky as Her Legacy, but it has a ton of mystery in it. Just when you think you know where it’s going, she throws you for a loop and takes you in another direction. Misdirection is the name of the game in this one. We learn a lot of the historical facts about the secret order and society that surround the witches and the Foster House.
Teresa gives Alexis some superpowers. It doesn’t start out that way, but she gains them as we go along. She’s still clumsy as hell, but the house makes things worse for her. This story isn’t so much about character development as it is about the story of who Alexis is and the Foster House.
Down to business. I’m giving this a 4 of 5 because I think she should have given more backstory from Her Legacy in the beginning of this one, just to refresh our memory a little bit. Also, she put Alexis in positions she wouldn’t be able to handle with bruised ribs (I don’t want to tell more to keep from spoiling it). But neither of these overshadow the great mystery she is building here. Both books give you something a little different, which I think is unique in a series, Her Legacy is spooky while Bloodties is mysterious. Can’t wait to see what the next one brings us.
Bloodties – The Foster House Legacy Book 2
Book 1 of this series left off very unexpectedly but book 2 picks up right where it left off. In this book we are still learning about the secrets of the Foster House and Alexis is learning more about her family history and the powers she herself has. While book 1 took longer for me to get through I really got into this one and enjoyed seeing how the story was progressing. I am still left with plenty of questions, however, I now know that there is another book on the way.
Like in book 1 we are still dealing with the same group of characters surrounding Alexis. There were moments I was confused and a few times I had to reread a page or two to make sure I understood what was going on. Trying to keep everyone straight and how they are connected takes some serious work. I do think that this story contains even more mystery and suspense as ghosts of Alexis’s family take a more important role in everything that is going on.
I can’t wait to get my hands on book 3 because I am dying to know how things are going to work out. – By Alisa
I read the first book in this series and it just left me reeling. I tried to get it and I couldn’t. I wasn’t real sure what I was getting myself into with this one. I have to say I am so glad I continued. I will probably go back and alter my review for book one now that I can understand what the author is doing (that hindsight thing). Now as for this review. A ton of information is poured into you in no real order in the first book however now things are starting to make sense and that foundation is becoming more firm. The house and it’s spirits are gathering the knights, guardians and suitors promised to protect and train the princess, from Tristin and his minions. They are learning he is not the only enemy. Alexis is showing her bark can’t protect her body however she may have a power that can help with the unfriendly spirits. Learning to work with and learn from the house and the spirits who are comprised of the original families, to bring them all together and be successful isn’t going to be easy. The strength and power Alexis has and will be gaining will need to be harnessed and nurtured to be all it needs to be without ending them all. Do you get the idea that it’s complicated? Ah yeah it is but I have to admit I am now firmly hooked.
I can honestly say in this case the series is getting better and better and yes it is a series that needs to be read in order. This book also ends in a cliffhanger and yes I do look forward to continuing to follow Alexis, her Knights and her suitors in what has so far been a clean and entertaining read.
4 STAR Review by Jodi for Ruby Red Romance Review
So…I did not have the opportunity to read the first book in this series. I felt like I missed a little bit with not having that. I felt like I missed out on some important details. That being said, this book was enjoyable. I loved the interactions between all the characters. I loved the story. Most of all I loved that this is something different for me. I definitely went out of my comfort zone for this book. Please check it out.
