This book draws you into the fairy world. I felt for Olive through her ups and downs.
This story is by far my favorite one out of this series so far. It’s mysterious, magical, and quite the page turner. There were also surprises lurking around every corner too. This book had a lot of suspense, and I loved the power, strength and how courageous Olive became since the beginning of the series and I absolutely loved the new and improved Olive in this story. She showed her fear and yet, learned to not take crap from nobody. Olive actually scared me in this story. I highly recommend this story to all to enjoy. It’s full of so much compassion and surprises that it will make keep turning page after page from beginning to end. I am very anxious to read more about Olive and her adventures that I know are yet to come.
Once again, although I adore this series, I didn’t care too much for this particular volume. Most of it entailed the continued breakup of Olive and Kull. What was so hard to take at the end of the last book actually encapsulated about 99% of this work. And not only did Olive end up having to work with Kull to resolve the storyline, she was also brought under the authority of her other ex, Brent, now a police officer investigating a murder she is caught up in. It was all rather dreary and depressing and tiring.
That being said, the basic plot of the story was good, with twists and turns, some you see coming and others that you don’t. There is more explanation of the world of Faythander, a bit more about some of the players’ past, and a look into the future, particularly in regards to the Deathbringer prophecy around Olive. The writing was lovely, with the dialogue as sharp and witty as always, including interactions with some new characters that we are introduced to, including a couple of wingless fairy siblings.
Once more, the ending is wrapped up by the brave action of Olive, but has unintended and unforeseen results. There is a dark shadow over everything though, that she tells no one about, a fact that really bothers me. Hopefully at some point in the future she will share this secret with her step-father Fan’twar or Kull or someone. I can’t wait to read the next book and find out!
I voluntarily received an ARC of Bloodthorn by Tamara Grantham in exchange for an honest review.
Tamara Grantham has created the perfect adult fantasy series. The Olive Kennedy series combines romance, adventure, and mystery to create a magical story that I can’t get enough of. I grow to love these characters a little more with each new book. Seeing Olive and Kull struggle to cope with the loss each of them have experienced made my heart ache for them. I really missed Kull’s sense of humor and charismatic personality in Bloodthorn.
I am starting to warm up to Heidel and actually like her. A part of me things she and Brodnik would work well together as a couple. I think she deserves a happy ending after everything she has been through in the past. I can’t wait to see how each character’s story progresses in the next book.
This is the one that pulls at the heartstrings. With how “Spellweaver” left off, we all know the state Olive is in. And it drips through on every page. This is the probably the most emotional of the books just because of the damage done in it. Not just in the terms of Olive in Kull’s relationship, but also things Olive has to endure on her own. Awful, painful, soul-crushing kinds of things that no human being should have to endure. Even in terms of saving the world … again.
Bargains are struck, deals are made, and new friendships are realized. While one important relationship dynamic is balancing on the edge of a blade.
