Book #1, Unlicensed to Kill. Welcome to a world of Mob bosses, enforcers, lawyers, and the possibilities for change.
As the youngest daughter of Mob boss Tony LoPresti, Emmi’s been surrounded by wealth and privilege her entire life. But she’s absolutely certain of one thing. She wants nothing to do with her family’s business. Becoming a legitimate lawyer is her driving ambition. Her relationship with Sam Fargate, a wannabe musician, drives a further wedge between her and her family. While Emmi’s loved Sam for over a decade, his career has always taken precedence. When fate hands Sam an opportunity in California, he can’t say no. He demands that Emmi come with him. But Emmi’s worked too hard to give up everything for someone else’s dream. When Sam leaves, she’s heartbroken. Taking a break from law school, she returns home, only to find Daniel “Digger” Bastile waiting. Digger’s loved Emmi his entire life. He’s always been absolutely certain Emmi will be his one day. But Emmi wants nothing to do with Digger. As one of her father’s enforcers, Digger is everything Emmi despises. Getting involved with a Mob enforcer? NOT happening! When a blizzard traps Emmi and Digger at her parents’ home, is this finally Digger’s chance? There’s certainly a physical attraction between the two. A chance encounter under a piece of mistletoe may just be the opening Digger’s waited for. But for Emmi, it can’t be more than lust, right? As Emmi seems to thaw against the heat of Digger’s passion, the thin ice between them becomes more and more dangerous. When Sam returns, Emmi’s more confused than ever. Does she want Sam back? Is the attraction for Digger something she can deny? When the dust settles after the showdown between Sam and Emmi, Digger may no longer be Emmi’s problem. The question is, what does she really want?
I truly didn’t know what to expect from this story as it’s an entirely new direction for Ms. Tate. Emmi’s a strong-willed, independent woman who believes she knows exactly what she wants. But does she truly know herself? Digger’s always been absolutely certain of who and what he is. And he makes no apologies for himself. Digger’s certainty that Emmi belongs to him pushes every button Emmi has…in the wrong way. These two have been at cross purposes for most of their lives. But Digger’s confidence and Emmi’s stubborn refusal to acknowledge anything but what she believes to be the truth are at the heart of this story. Digger’s dominant without being arrogant. He’s stubborn and absolutely convinced he’s right. Emmi’s just as confident, equally stubborn, and absolutely certain she knows what’s best. It’s this conflict that’s the driving force behind this story. Ms. Tate knows exactly how to draw her readers into the worlds she creates. She’s done her research into the lifestyle of these characters, and that’s very obvious. The tension, uncertainty, and even hope Ms. Tate creates were totally unexpected. If you enjoy erotic romance with a touch of the mafia world thrown in, you’ll certainly love this book! Ravenna Tate excels at everything she writes, and she’s done an excellent job!
One final note. Be an informed reader! This is an ADULT book. It contains explicit language and sexual scenes. If you don’t enjoy this genre, this may not be the book for you. There are book synopses and reviews available on Goodreads and all booksellers’ websites. Use these resources. DON’T LEAVE A NEGATIVE REVIEW WHEN YOU KNOW YOU WON’T ENJOY THE BOOK. It’s not fair to the author! She works hard to provide a quality work product. If you know you’ll object to a book’s subject matter before you buy it, you’re doing yourself and the author an extreme disservice.
Thanks for reading my review and happy reading!
