The second book in the Bloodlines Trilogy is an engaging romance that holds readers captive throughout this romance that has two very reluctant parties which keeps the relationship in question until the very end. The characters are bold, convincing and easily grab readers’ attentions from the very beginning and the emotional turmoil that flows from the pages grip the readers by their hearts ensuring that they want to know everything that happens.
The plot progresses at a steady rate that keeps the exciting and suspenseful events building the anticipation throughout the story which keeps readers on the glued to the pages with a white knuckled, wide eyed control. In keeping with the first book in this series, the author has spun another fascinating story that is full of major emotional turmoil and intense decision making that results in life altering changes while adding lots of heart pounding suspense. Unlike the previous story, this one jumps to the future and the author does a great job of describing the setting which makes it easy for readers to imagine it and become completely caught up in this fascinating and exciting vampire world.
I am going to start this review off with a warning. There are triggers in this book. Vivienne was tortured and abused in this book. What she went through before and afterward was a significant part of the plotline. So, if you are triggered by abuse, do not read this book.
Vivienne is GeM who has endured the worst kind of abuse. Escaping from her captor, she crosses paths with Theodor De Croix. Theo saves her from certain death. Vivienne is torn between her desire for Theo and her fear of what he is. Can she overcome her fear and her past? Can she allow herself to love Theo?
Bloodline Destinies has three significant plotlines. Vivienne and her recovery from abuse are one. Theo and his dance with Malvina was the second one. Malvina and her quest to avenge Ivan is the third one. I loved them all.
There were a couple of twists in Bloodline Destinies that I saw coming. They both involved Malvina. Even though I guessed at what was going to happen, they still surprised me.
I will say that I liked that the book took place almost 500 years in the future. I loved the whole backstory about the alien ship and the destruction it caused on Earth. Also, the entire storyline on how the GeMs were created was fascinating.
The sub-storyline that detailed Vivienne’s abuse and the aftermath from it broke my heart. Her strength poured off the pages.
I liked Vivienne. She had immense strength. I loved how she adjusted to being a GeM. Even though she was made into one the previous year, she was never allowed to learn how to be one (if that makes sense). I thought her fear of Theo was a little much. I could understand why she was scared of him. She had a prey response to him. But he showed her, over and over again, that he wouldn’t harm a hair on her head. That was the only complaint I had about her.
I did like Theo, even if he had a quick temper and came across as a jerk for 90% of the book. Don’t get me wrong; he wasn’t all bad. He came across as a grump. But, he did love Vivienne and was willing to do whatever it took to make sure she was safe.
Malvina was slimy. From her first scene, I knew she wasn’t good news. And man, she was bad. I understood why she wanted to avenge Ivan’s death. That was her dad. She did get what she deserved at the end of the book. She should have been killed off sooner (sorry for the spoiler!!)
As always, the secondary characters added an extra depth to the story. I liked how the author brought in Ana and Andree from book one but kept them in the background. I also loved seeing Thora. I was surprised by Serge and his actions. I didn’t think he would do what he did.
I thought that Bloodline Destinies was an excellent fit for the romance genre. I liked how the author took Vivienne and Theo’s romance slow. I liked that there were setbacks. I also liked that there was a love triangle going on between Victor, Vivienne, and Theo.
As for the sex in this book, it’s there, but the author doesn’t go into detail. It wasn’t until a key scene at the end that I realized that Theo and Vivienne had even had sex. I was confused by it for a minute then the lightbulb went on.
I thought that Bloodline Destinies was a great fit in the paranormal genre. I loved that the author had a new vampire subspecies. The GeMs were fascinating. I do wish that more detail was given about the GeMs. Like why they were so hated.
The end of Bloodline Destinies was what I thought it would be. It was predictable. The storylines were all wrapped up in a way that I liked. I am interested in reading Thora’s story.
Melting the Ice…..
Prince Theodore De Croix has been fighting to be the most powerful vampire in the world, a world that has ceased to exist as we knew it after an alien ship crashed on earth and virtually destroyed it, with the flood it created upon impact. The only memories of what the world used to be rests with the vampires and what little humans they could save of the devastated world.
Theodore has been so caught up in battling the other vampires to fill his coven before his 500th birthday that he has come to be known as Theofrost for his ferocity in dispatching his enemies. Whatever humanity was in him he has locked in a wall of ice, when he finds a girl half dead in an alley, he fears is humanity may rear it’s head once again and then where will he be, time is running out for him to fulfill his oath. Will he chose what he swore he would achieve, or the love that has appeared and melted his cold, cold heart? Will Vivienne a mere human be enough to a vampire prince?
Wonderful love story, once again this author has proved that I don’t need to have erotic scenes to enjoy a well written story.
This futuristic story is very detailed and amazing. GeMs a new species and vampires share the world with humans. GeMs and vampires hate each other but steps in with a surprise in the form of Theo and Viv. I absolutely love this story especially the kind of Romeo and Juliet vibe it has and I highly recommend it.
Bloodline Destinies no truer love story ever told. I fell deep into the pages and came out in love with Theo and Vivienne’s story. A page turner indeed. Fate played an awesome game with these two. As the lines in the book blurred and swayed to the music of these two hearts. Forever entwined yet fearful and resistant. Theo has to give into fate and Vivienne her heart will they finally be together? I had to see these hearts beat as one they were meant to be no matter how afraid or in denial they were, it had to be. Doesn’t it? When true love is the price what are you willing to sacrifice.
A great twist on the traditional origin story of vampires. For all vampire lovers!
Almost 500 years have passed since the ending of the last book. Prince Theodor is the leader of his coven. Vivienne is a GeM, a new type of blood-drinker. GeM came about after the Flood. Theo senses that Viv is his destiny, but she can’t be. Denial has never stopped Destiny.
I enjoyed the story of the first book but I love this one! Prince Theodor is a pretty cold dude and even when he meets the girl who he saves but refused to believe she would be his. He’s rejecting who she might be to him. Things are different from between the first book and this one. I loved it so much! Alas a wonderful love story with Vivienne and Theo. I recommend reading the first book and definitely this one. I cant wait for the next one!
I enjoyed the concept and watching the push and pull between the characters. The ending felt a little rushed for me. The story kept me interested the whole way through I was just hoping to see a little more growth in each of the characters.
Bloodline Destinies is the second book in the Bloodline trilogy…At least I think it’s a trilogy. But this book can be read as a standalone, and as a reader you don’t feel lost or out of place.
Theo has been building up his coven for centuries. On the brink of his 500th birthday his contractual promise he made with the coven to boost it’s members to 1000 is coming up and he’s a few members shy of his numbers. He’s been building and protecting his coven for so long that he’s earned the name Theofrost, because he’s lost what little humanity and heart he may have had while dispersing of his enemies.
When he finds a woman half-dead in an alley way, he knows he should probably just leave her. After all he doesn’t concern himself with human affairs. However, with this woman there is just something that he can’t shake and doesn’t feel right leaving her behind.
With his deadline looming closer for him to reach his goals he doesn’t have the time for distractions, especially in the form of a human woman who wouldn’t be strong enough to stand by his side.
But destiny is not to be denied. For both Theo and Vivienne they will have to overcome their own fears and find a way trust each other.
This was a really good book. I think my only complaint would be I wish I would’ve found out more about what a GeM is. What makes them different from vampires? Is it they just don’t inherit gifts and are still mortal, but yet they still have to drink blood…??
this book was amazing! humans now share the world with vampires and gems. both need blood. she is a gem thanks to the flood. he was always a vampire. now he must make a choice. read to find out what happens.
