Wow. Just wow. It’s going to take me a while to recover from that ending. Right now, my brain is mush and I mostly can’t tell up from down. This story sucked me in from the very beginning and I couldn’t read it fast enough. I was desperate to learn more about the difficulties Helena and Lucious are facing and how they would overcome them. And that ending?! Now I’m impatient to get my hands on the next book so that I can find out what happens next.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author.
As a lover of the paranormal. I found this book to be a very good read. The characters were vivid and well developed. The story was full of intrigue and was one that will keep the reader involved from start to finish. Definitely recommended.

Blood Witch (Helena Hawthorn Series, #6) by May Freighter is an awesome story that I have read. This is book number six in this awesome story that I have loved reading and I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves readign about vampires as much as I do in their stories.

This continuing book in the Helena Hawthorn series by May Freighter is a vampire and witch lovers’ delight to read. This book seemed to delve more into the characters and their actions and feelings than some of the previous books I have read in the series. Even though I have not read all the previous books in this series I was still able to understand the story and plot lines as they developed. It was of course also a paranormal love story and about the protection of their loved ones at almost any cost, even their life. The story continues to build up to what I am expecting to be a huge explosive battle between all the hunters, vampires, witches and whatever else exists. This is a voluntary review of an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from Booksprout.
As always May Freighter doesn’t disappoint! I’m always glued to my phone while reading the Helena Hawthorn series! The “only problem” is the size of the books because I could continue to read them non stop!!! 😀
Blood Witch by May Freighter is a stand alone book that is the sixth book in the Helena Hawthorne series. This book is about a witch Helena who is bonded to and in love with a vampire Lucious. This book’s plot is full of suspense, mystery, romance, and intrigue. It has many different paranormal creatures who have lots of different powers that some use for good and others use for evil and the book’s mysterious plot builds until the very last page. I couldn’t put this book down because the story had me so entranced until I read the cliffhanger at the very end that now has me eagerly awaiting the next book in this epic series. This book is like the paranormal world of Game of Thrones and I am definitely hooked.
The council has great discord around it. It doesn’t seem to be effective. Evil and conniving runs amok. Lucious is set with a task he really doesn’t want to do. He has to. Will the council serve
This is a good story that ends with a large cliffhanger.
Helena was tired of the waiting. She wanted to learn to control her cravings for blood magic, but the control and power were still out of her reach. Malachi promised to get in contact with her, but she hadn’t heard from him or the warlock who was to become her mentor. She was spending night and day in the study poring over the restored archives. When she bumped into Perri carrying a huge box of Christmas ornaments, she was reminded that she was hardly ever seen anymore. So she started to help decorating the tree until she felt someone was watching her. The two vampires were busy selecting ornaments, but she felt uneasy. She decided to go back to her studies.
In the study, she read that in 1477, a blood witch took the life energy of the vampires and consumed it through a blood ritual. But as she closed the book, she felt the sensation of being watched again. She called out, “Who’s there,” and heard a chuckle that she had confirmed she could sense him. Malachi had asked him to teach a student blood magic, and Nobu Tsuchiya had come to deny her request in person because she was too weak to use and control blood magic. She was not mentally strong enough to survive his training. She wanted the power to be able to stay with Lucious and be able to fight. But what Nobu demanded, if he agreed to teach her, was that she give up her feelings for the vampire, even though she was doing this to be with him. She could not give him up! Nobu gave her one week to decide, then disappeared. Who is this mysterious warlock? What kind of danger is he putting her in? How will Lucious react?
There is so much going on in this particular segment, with complicated characters working out their own demons and fears. The wrong decision could be terribly costly! I love the interaction of the characters with each other, clearly showing their personalities and becoming even more real to the reader. This author’s books are excellent and I highly recommend jumping into the stories that will stay with you long after you reach the end!
May Freighter‘s Helena Hawthorn Series is easily among my favorite urban fantasy series (and I read tons in this genre so that’s saying something). Now in book 6, Blood Witch, Helena is back in a darker and more twisted, complex, and convoluted – yet totally fun – manner. Fans of this series can rejoice because this installment matches the best. Newcomers can kinda sorta read this standalone but I really recommend starting with book 1, both because reading the books in order really provides the context to make each one better, and because it’s darn totally enjoyable. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.
I’m a Helena Hawthorn fan. Right now I’m dying! Not spoiling anything, but the way this book ends….AAAUUUGGHHH! I can’t believe I have to wait for May Freighter to write the next book before I can read more! I know when a book can make me feel this way that I’m reading a talented author.
This is the sixth book in the series and although I’ve enjoyed every single one, I think this may be my favorite. I can say that at least until book 7 comes along. There is so much going on in so many different areas with all of the characters we have come to know and love. Although I’ve just finished reading the book, I think I might have to sit back down and read it again…just to make sure I didn’t miss anything.
Ms. Freighter, if you are reading this, please hurry with book seven. It is going to be torture having to wait to see what will happen next!
Omg that ending though!! Another amazing dramatic addition to an awesome series. I can not stress enough how much I enjoy this series. The people are so real I feel like I personally know them and can’t help but root for my favorites.
I received an ARC for an honest review.
