We aren’t your mama’s vampires… and we don’t sparkle.Serena’s not your typical vamp. She drinks holy water for breakfast, and her boss runs the Vatican. However, life isn’t all rainbows and unicorns. Her relationship is in the crapper, and she’s asking herself the age-old question… “Should I stay or should I go?” Change is hard, especially for an immortal. For three centuries, two things have … centuries, two things have been constant – Nicholai and her job. Working as an assassin for one of the most influential forces in history has its perks, but business is slow. That all changes when Nicholai’s human descendant is murdered, and he’s the prime suspect.
As the body count rises, Serena and Nicholai are forced to work together to find the real killer before it’s too late. The problem is…the more they discover, the more they’re convinced the murderer is their commander. Worse still, proving him guilty could lead to a rebellion.
On the bright side, there’s nothing like a war to put the spark back in a 300-year-old marriage.
You’ll adore this urban fantasy series, because everyone loves a tale of redemption and second chances.

This is a fantastic book based in New Orleans. This is book one in the series and features Nicholai King and his mate Serena. They are Immortals working for the Catholic Church. They have lived all over the world and experienced many life. Serena is unhappy with Nicholai and her life right now. Nicholai has started gambling again, is keeping secrets and just brought home a 5 year old little boy, Nick, who is the last of his bloodline. He expects her to be a mom to this child. Serena is balancing her job, a child and a spouse she loves dearly but is having trouble trusting. Now Nicholai has been accused of killing Nick’s mother and he’s developing powers he shouldn’t have. There are lots of twists and turns in this one and some help from the Voodoo Queen nanny.
I started out reading it & thought it was interesting. They story line flowed along in a realistic way & I didn’t loose interest at any point. Life had been keeping me busy as many can relate and it was time for an escape. When I saw the new title in the list I snapped it up without reading about it. This turns out to be a repeat for me. Still enjoyable and glad I got the opportunity to revisit these characters. Something about their relationship speaks to me. I think I appreciate how one can question a relationship while still being fully dedicated and loving a person. Definitely pick this one up and continue the series.

Taking this story all the way back to 1995 when beepers were a thing and you had to actually use a payphone to make calls. After 300 years Serena wants to leave her husband. Though she still loves him, she just can’t stand the things he does. Forces outside their lives change thing. We learn all about the 2 types of Vampires. Though to know which one is truly better we might not know. A lot happens while both Nicholai and Serena fight for their family. What will happen now? Guess I have to read the next book to find out.

I really liked this series. It has what I like in a series with a bit of a mystery, unsolved murders, relationship trouble, and assassins. It was fun as the story unfolded and kept me guessing what was really going on. The writing was good, the plot interesting, and had some steamy scenes as Serena tried to live through the next few days of her crazy life that had been boring up to when things went sideways. I liked it and cannot wait to see what happens next.
A really wonderful book. This is the first book I have read by Author Kathryn M. Hearst. But it won’t be my last. Love the characters. I enjoyed reading…

Blood Vows was previously published under the name Feast of Reverance, but this is my first time reading any books by this author and let me just say this…this book is a well-written vampire novel that had me page-turning to learn what was going to happen next.
The author introduces readers to a woman on the edge – she’s tired of the lies from her partner, and now she’s thinking enough is enough and she’s ready to go. But it’s not really that simple, is it? There is a child in the mix. While it is not hers, it is part of the problem for her. She doesn’t feel she’s mother material, and his mother is suspiciously dead. The child, on another level, adds another layer to the problems that surround them both. Deaths, not just the boy’s mother’s, beginning to pile up. A visitor is come from out of town, and they are intent on learning secrets that are buried. Serena and Nicholai face some serious danger and staying ahead of it seem to be becoming a serious gamble for them both and the child they have taken in.
I love the suspense element the author weaves into this book. You really don’t know what the next scene is going to play out and I think this is what kept me hooked the most. The characters themselves are engaging of course, but the storyline and the mystery that surrounds almost every step the characters take is what keeps you going the most. This book is steeped in secrecy, but the author does drop clues here and there. I love that these vampires are so uniquely different from your average run of the mill vamps. These don’t drink blood…until they are beginning to lose themselves. This is one of many things I loved about this book.
If you are a fan of vampire novels then I highly suggest you grab this book. It has so much uniqueness to it and it will keep you entertained to the end. I can’t wait to learn what happens next! I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars!

Nicholai King and his mate Serena are Immortals working for the Vatican as assassins. But Nicholai’s behavior lately is damaging their relationship as he has started gambling, wasting away all their money, and keeping secrets. It is a serious situation causing her to re-think staying with him under these circumstances.
Nicholai returns with a 5-year-old boy, Nick, the last of his bloodline, and expects Serena to be the boy’s mother. This was yet another instance of Nicholai making decisions he had no right to make. She had no desire to be a mother, yet he was making those choices for her without discussion. And each mistake he committed made her choice to leave even easier.
Lochlain, her commander, had paged Serena repeatedly. A visit by the High Council to New
Orleans was unusual and he wanted to meet to make sure everything was perfect. He expected Serena and Nicholai at his meeting within the hour. This was not a good time to be dealing with a young child. And as she walked to the meeting place, she sensed two immortals behind her. Had the Council representative’s entourage arrived early or were these rogue Execrati that were to be executed immediately? How could she keep Nick safe while she fought them? Then the man took the woman’s hand and let her down a side street, obviously choosing not to engage her yet – but she still felt the threat. There was too much going on right now. And when Nicholai is accused of the murder of Nick’s mother, will Serena be there to help him prove his innocence and find the real killer? Will she find out what is going on with him?
This is a well-written book, action-packed, and filled with mystery. The characters are well-defined. The story line is unusual, but it works and keeps the reader intrigued. Grab your copy and find out what is happening in Nicholai’s life!
This book immediately draws you in and does not let you go. I laughed, cried and was on the edge of my seat the entire time. I fell in love with all of the characters and cannot wait to see if there will be more set in this world with these characters. You feel like you are actually there and this is a unique twist on the vampire genre.

This is a great, well written story. The characters are so well developed and “real” that I got really into them. I have not had the pleasure of reading Ms. Hearst’s works before, but I can promise that I’ll be watching for them going forward! Highly recommended if you like slightly different vampire stories.

Serena has all the same hopes and dreams of any woman. Problem is, she is an immortal vampire and her partner, Nicholai, loves her, but seems to be leaving her out of important areas of his life!
We meet these two in Blood Vows, by Kathryn M Heart, the first book in her Immortal Reign series.
What makes these two unique in the vampire world is that they work as assassins for the Vatican, and there are dark happenings afoot that involve Nicholai’s descendants.
This book is a great mash-up of all the things I love about Urban Fantasy!.
I loved this book. It was so intricate and the characters are well defined and so believable. Serena has loved Nicholai for 300 years, but something has to give. They are vampires, but he is a gambler and is just frittering all their money away. She is undecided as to whether or not to leave him. The last of his natural descendants are a mother and son. The mother is murdered and Nicholai is a suspect in the murder – especially as he has now taken the little boy to raise himself. The dynamics within his group of vampires are changing and things don’t look good for Nicholai. He and Serena have to find out what is going on and see if they can fix it – or not.
