A startling new vision of paranormal romance: When a human ventures into the world of vampires—a decadent milieu of blood-bonds and betrayal—she discovers that not all is what it seems. For Reyna Carpenter, giving up her body isn’t a choice. It’s survival. In a civilization laid waste by poverty and desperation, Reyna accepts a high-paying position with the wealthy and hungry vampire elite. … and hungry vampire elite. Her new job is as the live-in blood escort for the intimidating, demanding, and devilishly handsome Beckham Anderson. He’s everything she expected from a vampire, except for one thing—he won’t feed off her.
Reyna soon discovers that behind Beckham’s brooding, wicked façade lies a unique and complex man. And that, in a dark and divided world, she is more valuable than she ever would have believed.
For with each passing night, Reyna can’t shake the sensation that it’s Beckham who’s afraid of her.
Note: Reyna and Beckham’s story continues in Blood Match.

If you’re like me (and God bless you if you are because you need all the blessings you can get), you swore off vampire paranormal romances a while ago. Well, it’s time to jump back on that train, dear readers, because KA Linde has a fantastic series brewing featuring vampires.
There is a new world out there, and it is ruled by the vamps. Not Edward-esque vampires, either. Beckham and his ilk may be gorgeous and perfect looking, but this brood is far more interesting and complex. Only the wealthy vampires are thriving because they can afford to hire people to be their “blood escorts,” which means a class battle of sorts is brewing. I liked how KA Linde uses that plot thread to make you connect even deeper to this story. It isn’t just vampires and humans, it’s haves, have-nots, privileged and poor.
Of course there is a romance, and since this is the first book of a series, you can be sure that the romance builds slowly. KA Linde makes you question whether Reyna and Becks will wind up together, whether they have enough in common to be a couple. There are a couple of scenes that broke my heart for Reyna, and there was one scene that left me weeping for Becks.
This is a spicy, intense start to what no doubt will prove to be a spicy, intense series. I can’t wait for the next book!
Reyna Carpenter lives in the Warehouse District. She and her two brothers are living in poverty and close to starvation. With this she makes a life-altering decision without consulting her brothers. She will work for Visage and become a blood escort for a vampire.
Beckham Anderson lives in the city. He is Senior Vice-President of Visage Inc and is rich. He is also a vampire and Reyna’s new Sponsor.
They could not be more different. Upon first meeting he is cool, calm and controlled. She is friendly, open and full of questions. Beckham is dressed impeccably in a tailored suit while she is dressed in ripped jeans, a dirty t-shift and hand-me-down Converse shoes.
What they do have in common is attraction and the fact that for better or worse they are together indefinitely or until one is no longer satisfied with the union.
With Reyna living under his roof and getting under his skin, he cannot keep up his façade of indifference for long and Reyna is just waiting to reel him in.
As the passion rises between them, there is danger lurking everywhere. From rogue vampires to Visage itself.
Will Reyna want to stay in this new world where every friend can also be her foe and where danger lurks around every corner?
Although this book started a little slow for me, it picked up quickly. It is entertaining, different and original. Once Reyna is placed with Beckham the pace picked up and from there I was intrigued. The plot caught and held my attention.
It is the first book I read by this author and it will not be the last.
In the beginning, I disliked Beckham and found him to be an arrogant ass. It was heartbreaking to see him dismiss Reyna, without a care, over and over again.
The highlight for me, was Reyna. I loved her sass and her fight. She did not allow Beckham to belittle her. I also felt for Reyna, she was looking for a place to fit in but she couldn’t. Beckham was too aloof and ignored her most of the time while any human friends she made would judge her for working for Visage. Rock meet hard place.
In the second part of the book, the carnality notched up several degrees. So sexy. Beckham was reserved but Reyna brought out the passion and the animal in him quite literally.
The only thing that bothered me a little was Reyna’s response when she got what she was looking for. It left me with a WTH is going on feeling.
As for the ending, my god what a cliff-hanger! I soo need to read the next book! Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing for the ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
From the first page of this book, I couldn’t stop reading, hours upon hours of reading. Reyna is strong, loving, caring and will do anything, seriously anything, to help her brothers. Living in a- some might say a dystopian world, a world and government essentially ruled by Vampire’s she’s desperate to help. She’s signed up to be a “donor” for Visage but is given the opportunity to have a permanent sponsor. She will make twice as much money as she thought, donating Blood to Beckham, a higher up at Visage.
Beckham isn’t the most welcoming man, but he has his moments of sweetness with Reyna. Reyna finds herself in precarious situations (a lot) and Beck is the one who gets her out of the dangerous situations, he is concerned for her safety, but he’s also the man whose company is ruling the world, he’s often dismissive to Reya which confused her immensely. Reyna often finds herself wanting to hate him, but just can’t. Everything is not what it always seems.
For the PNR reading, this book is you can sink your teeth right into (pun intended) and for my non-PNR readers – this book, just might be the one to change your mind forever. There is suspense, angst (of course), so hotness (of course), hot vampires, bad ass heroine and honesty within these pages that you will also be hooked the moment you begin.
Beware – there is a book two (and three), so there is a bit of a cliffhanger, but it’s going to be so worth the wait!
Ok – So I have said this a few times when writing reviews for PNR books – I DON’T READ PNR…but I think I need to officially abandon that statement forever. A certain friend, you know who you are, strongly suggested a read a series a few years ago (The Dark Light Series by SL Jennings), and holy shitballs, I fell in love. Then, the same person suggested I read Sylvain Reynard’s The Florentine Series, and again – she was so freaking right. So NOW, I am going to say to this friend…OMG, get to reading Blood Type by K.A. Linde because I am hooked. I have been a K.A. Linde fan from 2012 when she released Avoiding Commitment – one of the angstiest series I have ever read!
5 stars for – Blood Type – the first book in a new paranormal romance series by K.A. Linde. I was blown away by how utterly unique and exciting Linde’s spin on the vampire world was. I do want to give those who need it forewarning though, that with this only being the first of three planned books it ends in a cliffhanger of epic proportions.
Reyna Carpenter was the youngest in her happy family of five but after her parents died she always felt like a burden to her older brothers. Reyna decides to take matters into her own hands and help out the only way she knows how and applies for a job as a blood escort since she can’t qualify for any other work. Reyna’s only thoughts were that the money she will make for the temporary position will help her and her brothers afford their very meager apartment and minimal food with little if any being leftover. What she never in a million years would expect is an exclusive offer to be placed permanently in a new program with an executive at Visage that comes with so many bells and whistles and a steep pay increase but the only drawback is she can’t go back home to tell her brothers and she must decide in the next handful of minutes or the offer expires.
Beckham Anderson is one of the senior officials within Visage – a corporation run by vampires. Visage technically is the company that runs the world and Beckham sits on the executive level of that company. Beckham is a man with many layers who we know very little about, he is cold and calculating for so much of the book you have no idea how you feel about him. Then seemingly out of no where with about thirty percent or so of the book left it was game over and I firmly found myself on #TeamBecks!
Do yourself a favor an READ. THIS. BOOK! So much mystery, danger and Linde’s signature angsty romance are all mixed together to take you on one heck of a journey like never before. I promise you that you’ve never read a vampire romance like this before and it will leave you breathless and on the edge of your seat until the very last page!
Anyone who knows me knows that I absolutely love paranormal romance. There is something about the world building and the alpha male hero and the sassy woman who brings him to his knees. Rayna and Beckham were great. I loved their intense sexual chemistry and fiery banter. I could not get enough!
When poverty stricken Reyna Carpenter decides to make a better life for herself and her two brothers by becoming a permanent employee of Visage as a permanent food source for a Vampire, she is matched with Beckham Anderson. But as the political climate between humans and vampires become more volatile and emotional lines get crossed between Beckham and Reyna, will they be able to realize what they mean to one another before danger comes knocking on their door?
While I loved the unique storyline, the world building, Beckham’s broody and intense nature and his combustible chemistry with Rayna, I did feel that the ending to this story was somewhat rushed. Beckham was fantastic but his hot and cold/push and pull demeanor was frustrating at times. I would have also liked to see more of a fight in Reyna instead of her easy acceptance of his behavior. But that ending was amazing and so crazy!! I need book two ASAP!! Bravo! 4 Stars! ~Ratula
5 – Dangerously Fun, Pleasantly Tantalizing and Deliciously Sexy!
It’s been such a long time since I’ve read vampire books, so I didn’t really have super high expectations for this one. The cover definitely lured me in and I was in the mood for something steamy and sexy. Well, this book completely took my breath away. It was so damn good and way better than I expected it would be. Oh and that insanely wicked cliffhanger…Ughh I don’t know what to do with myself. So glad I saw this book on Netgalley and took a bite cause I am addicted and dying to get my hands on the next installment!!
Blood Type by K.A. Linde is dangerously fun, pleasantly tantalizing, and so deliciously sexy. I was extremely enamored by the world building and storyline that I found it almost impossible to put the book down. It’s dark, mysterious, and quite terrifying at times, but incredibly fascinating. I’ve never read anything by this author, but I can honestly say that I am completely hooked. It’s definitely one of those books that would keep you up late at night fighting sleep as long as possible. I know I did and no regrets… Even if I had to load up on caffeine for work the next day.
K.A. Linde also knows how to keep you on your toes. The plot twist totally took me by surprise. I kind of knew there would be something in the end that would leave me in an emotional mess, but I was not prepared for that at all. It was like someone ripped my heart away and stomped on it over and over. I was hurt. angry and scared for Reyna and so sad for Beckham. Don’t want to spoil all the juicy fun so just be prepared for the FEELS.
I thought Reyna was a great MC. She was a tad bit whiney at times, but she had plenty of qualities that made her likable. She was passionate, determined, and a fighter. Beckham… where do I even begin. He was enigmatic, sexy, charming, and dangerous. He was hot and cold and at times even a little mean. He frustrated me and I wanted to slap him so many times, but like Reyna, I was undeniable drawn to him. Their chemistry was amazing and the push and pull between them was so addictive.
This book sucked me in, stole my heart and left me breathless. There’s romance, suspense, humor, steam, and characters you can’t help but root for. Blood Type by K.A. Linde is without a doubt an awesome thrilling paranormal romance book. I really enjoyed exploring this dark and dangerous dystopian world where humans and vampires coexist and I cannot wait to find out what happens next.
I received an advance reader copy of this book from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for a fair and honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Blood Type is by far one of the best dystopian/paranormal romance books I’ve ever read. The story of Reyna and Beckham just drew me in like no other. I loved the kind of suspense that kept me on edge, always wanting to know more and to get answers. Their story is passionate, heartbreaking, dangerous and thrilling. It’s the perfect mix between vampire, love and dystopian.
I totally fell in love with Beckham, he’s just so mysterious and sexy and I loved how he made me question everything that’s about to happen. He’s unpredictable. And Reyna, she’s just sweet, passionate and even adventurous.
I have to admit, I haven’t read a vampire book in a long time, so I wasn’t sure if I was still intrigued by it and would love the story that much but OHMYGOD!!! This book is just everything! I loved it. It doesn’t matter if you’re a fan of vampire books or not because this book is so much more! Don’t let the fact that that it’s PNR stop you from reading this amazing story!
Actually for me the story even felt more like a dystopian story than paranormal, with the only addition that there are vampires in it. Altogether it’s just a great story about two “classes”, vampire and humans, rich and poor, good and bad.
The whole story is just utterly beautiful. There is so much in this book I didn’t expect, but in a good way. It’s adventurous and thrilling, heartfelt and passionate. I loved every second of it and I am so glad I took a chance at this paranormal/dystopian vampire romance. I am just totally in love with Beckham and Reyna and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
Note: This review contains NO spoilers
I am still reeling after reading this!!! I am still thinking about these characters after I have finished reading. Blood Type is an intense read filled with political and government intrigue, with some intense romance…. a definite page-turner. The world building is imaginative and believable. And the characters… Wow, the characters! K.A. has created characters with intense and complex personalities.
The setting itself varied from place to place. The various locations of the city contrasted starkly against the decadent vampire community of the rich. The way K.A. described these locations created an atmosphere of desperation and hard.ship, and in other locations, hedonistic and ostentatious. It’s pretty obvious throughout the book that which locations had these qualities. K.A.’s details of these locations even made me cringe…
The story’s pace flowed evenly, but of course, it had it’s intense moments. I couldn’t stop turning the pages, except when I fell asleep… Haha!! But, I got so wrapped up in Beckham and Reyna’s story, I just couldn’t stop reading. The interesting twist comes at the end… Yup, at the end!!! A freakin’ cliffhanger! Well, it is to me, but this cliffhanger did reveal a lot where questions came up throughout the story. Blood Type had an espionage feel to it that created that suspesne/mystery feel. Gah!!! Now I have to wait for the next book…
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher.
Blood Type is a twist on how vampires will rule once they come out of hiding and take over the world. The mix of humans and vampires isn’t what one would think it would turn out to be. Human jobs are not typically high paying.
Reyna is desperate to help her brothers out with some type of income so she visits the lab to have her blood tested. Once tested one of the company big wigs, Beckham, claims her as his blood servant.
There’s a few ups and downs in this story with Reyna and Beckham. Not everything is as it seems. Reyna needs Beckham to help keep her safe and alive. She doesn’t see it that way because secrets are held close to Beckham’s chest.
If you’re one who loves to read about vampires – I think you may enjoy Blood Type. I can’t wait to read Blood Match!
I can’t even put into words what K.A. Linde do to me with this book! She drew me in, kept me hooked, made my stomach drop, broke my heart, and then….. That ending!! AAAHHHHH! I needed book 2 before I even finished Blood Type. Beckham is soooooo damn hot!!! I NEED MORE NOW!
A fab start to a new PNR 3 book series here from K.A. Linde, I haven’t read any of her previous books but I do love a good PNR read, and that’s exactly what you get here!!
Set in a dystopian type world with humans and vampires living together, but there is a lot of poverty and poor people, mainly humans, while the vampires are the rich ones, running a company where humans agree to donate their blood and are type matched to provide blood 24/7, known as blood escorts, and are paid for their services.
Reyna lives with her two brothers, who work all the hours they can in a factory to make ends meet. She feels a burden to them and goes to enroll as a blood escort to earn her way. She is matched in a new type of program where she lives with the vampire. Beckham is wealthy, powerful and gorgeous to boot, but doesn’t seem interested in drinking from her at all!
This had me hooked within the first few pages!! The world set up is cleverly done and I really liked the political aspect that is also involved in this storyline, it adds a whole new layer to the story rather just vamps and feeding! I liked both the main characters while at the same time they both annoyed me a various parts in the story, which makes for a good story line!! There’s a lot of suspense and angst in the plot, trying to work out just who are the good guys and who are the bad guys here.
Of course, Vamps and sexual chemistry go hand in hand – Reyna and Beckham are no different, their chemistry is smoking hot, but Beckham does his utmost best to resist Reyna at all costs, turning up the tension!
This was a really good read, I thoroughly enjoyed it, but be warned book 1 does end in a cliff hanger that will have you cussing – I can’t wait for book 2 to come out, I need to know what happens next. Highly recommended reading.
Wow, wow, wow!!! I’m just blown away by Blood Type by K.A. Linde!! Like FLOORED!! This book just knocked me out of my socks and straight on my a$$!! With Ms Linde, you know you are going to get a great story, there’s a reason she’s always a go to author for me but Blood Type was just so much more than what I was expecting!!! I FREAKING LOVED IT!! This was the book that you read whenever you can! You read in the bathroom, at work, any free second you have you have your nose in your kindle because you cannot get enough of it! This was Blood Type for me! I cannot wait to see how the reset of the series will play out! This is a MUST read for any reader who loves Paranormal Romance and if you’ve not read this genre before but loved Buffy the Vampire Slayer or The Vampire Diaries you need to check it out!! This was a HUGE 5 star read for me and I’m adding this one to my Best of 2018 list!! It’s that good!!
Reyna and her brothers are barely surviving. They live in the lower class and have to use every dollar just to live. Reyna had to drop out of college as the cost was too high. Her brothers support her but their jobs at a warehouse barely pay for food and rent. Reyna knows she must do something to contribute and decides to do something she never thought she would do, apply to work as a blood donor to a vampire with the largest company in the world. She thought she could get a regular job but when she goes for screening, she finds out she is a match for a new program that is just rolling out. A permanent residence with a vampire with the same blood type. At first she is hesitant but knows the money will help her brothers and give them more than they could ever dream off.
Beckham is a top executive in Visage, a vampire company that is breaking through on how to sustain blood for vampires. If you love that alpha that drives you crazy with his broodiness that you will love Becks!! He is assigned Reyna due to the match in blood types but the signals he gives Reyna will make your head spin. Their chemistry is off the charts but there is more to Becks than meets the eye. He’s all alpha and frustrating as hell! Why do we love the jerks??!!
There is so much more to this story and I don’t want to spoil it!! The twist and turns were so unexpected and laid the ground work for an amazing series!! I cannot wait for the next installment in the series! Blood Type will frustrate you, it will have you wanting to slap someone, and it will leave you on the edge of your seat!! Go one click Blood Type and see how it all plays out!!
Holy Amazeballs!! This isn’t my normal choice of book.. I was nervous going into.. but I was going to keep and open mind and try it even if it took me days… we’ll scratch that! It sucked me in soo hard I finished it same day!! This book is no joke… I can’t believe how plain awesome it is!
Oh and twilight friends prepare to be mind blow like no other!!!
This is a cool new world of vampires!! As paranormal fan its refreshing to get something different for a change. I really liked it! Kudos to K.A. Linde for such an interesting and well imagined story.
Reyna and Beckman just simmer on the fire like a slow cooked stew. I love that they didn’t just jump right in to more with each other! It makes you want it more!
I hate but I love that I have to wait for Book 2 as I secretly enjoy a good cliffhanger.
I love to read romances of all tropes and genres, but I have a certain weakness for paranormal romances as they were my first loves. Authors like J.R. Ward and Laurell K. Hamilton fill my bookshelves among others, and now I have a new name to add to that list. K.A. Linde has wowed me with her expertly written and intriguing paranormal world. Blood Typegrabbed my attention and held it, okay maybe a certain vampire did that, but Linde’s words didn’t hurt.
Reyna will do anything to help take care of the only family she has left, even become a permanent blood bag for one of the wealthiest vamps in the city. But working with Visage and living with one of its senior members proves to be almost more than she can handle. As secrets slowly reveal themselves, she needs to make a choice between her new life and her old. But did she ever really have a choice to begin with?
Becks. Rooftop. <- Unforgettable scene and one of my favorites! That one and the one in The Vault! Holy Hotness that man, er I mean vampire has been in every single one of my fantasies since I finished this book! I love Beckham and Reyna, their chemistry and irritating banter drove me crazy but also endeared them to me even more. This was a predictable paranormal romance with some unpredictable twists. Yep I'm very clear on what happens right?! Haha! Let's just say that I thought I had what was going on straight and I was part right and part very very wrong and I loved that! K.A. Linde was a brand new author for me but after reading this I am anxious to get my hands on more of her words, specifically Blood Match because anyone who knows me knows patience is not my strong suit!! I need the next book now! If you like paranormal romance even just a little bit you will not be disappointed with this book! Five Bloody Stars! **Review by Amy W., Late Night Reviewer for Up All Night w/ Books**

As a huge re-reader of the Avoiding series, I was super curious to see what Linde would do in the paranormal genre. The author created an interesting world where the reader learns right alongside the main character. Flowing organically with ease, this type of delivery of information creates a smooth transition, devoid of info-dumpage.
Reyna was raised by her brothers, all of them orphans, in a world where only the rich live above the poverty line. This is a world where vampires roam and rule, and there are new laws and legislation going into place that affects the humans.
Reyna doesn’t wish to be a burden on her brothers anymore, unable to go college to better herself because they don’t have the money, yet unable to work because she doesn’t have a college degree, in a vicious cycle to keep those who are poor in an unescapable position.
Out of options, for survival’s sake, Reyna applies to become the blood host to a prominent vampire and gets more than she bargained for. In walks in Beckham.
I don’t want to give away the plot, as that’s the setup and nothing that’s not in the blurb or sample. I will say that Linde delivers the usual steamy, angsty, gut-punch of emotion tied up with a paranormal bow.
Reyna is left wondering if she’s good enough for Beckham, if he wants her, if he wants another woman more than her, this adding the angsty edge that is oh-so yummy. Reyna is part martyr, part naïve girl who does do some stupid running away, but she’s 100% survivor.
Beckham is the classic douche – strong, reserved, reluctant, demanding, emotionally devoid alpha male. Rich, in a prominent position, Beckham has an image to protect and a secret being kept, and any affection he may hold for Reyna could destroy it.
Blood Type was an angsty, juicy, fangy read, ending on a cliffhanger, and I cannot wait to get my claws into the next installment.

I really liked the whole premise of this story. It’s a new direction in a vampire novel that feels different and fresh. While I really liked the premise and found the story intriguing, I also felt it could have moved a little bit faster. My need for instant gratification had me starting to get annoyed with the dangling carrot, so to speak. I also felt that more background on Beckham would have better connected me to his character. But some might like his stoic and very elusive, evasive self. To me, he was all mystery with nothing to snuggle up to except short glimpses of lust-filled eyes and plundering, stolen kisses. I needed some type of vulnerability in him far sooner in the story because by the time he showed any type of real emotion, I had already made my opinion of him.
Reyna was a well written female protagonist and had everything I usually like in a leading lady. She is doing what she must for her family. She puts her brothers before her own welfare to keep them from working themselves to death in the mines. Taking Beckham’s money and fancy home for granted, albeit, as his hired employee, she becomes a bit vapid and flirts a bit too much with danger. Becoming a little too reckless in her role in this very dangerous new life with lethal vampires. Without spoilers, I liked the idea that Beckham may not be all he seems and could possibly have a different outlook than his fellow brethren. There’s a large cliffhanger that was played out nicely with a betrayal that you didn’t see coming. I’m interested to read book two and see where this story goes!

I have a confession. Despite being a massive fan of Buffy and Angel, I’m not really into vampire stories and Blood Type is the first vampire romance I’ve read. I’m not big on paranormal stories generally, but every now and then I try to move out of my comfort zone.
So what did I think of Blood Type? I thought it was brilliant! I was quickly sucked in to Reyna’s life. I’m a sucker for characters that are struggling to survive, so I connected to Reyna right from the beginning. Reyna goes from living with her brothers in a poor area and barely surviving, to living in luxury with vampire Beckham as his blood escort. She is now getting paid and has access to the best of everything. Beckham (or Becks as Reyna calls him – which made me cringe every time she said it), doesn’t give much away and doesn’t share much with Reyna. Their relationship develops over time, but it is fraught with difficulties that had Reyna’s emotions all over the place. It had my emotions all over the place too!
This is one of those stories where as a reader you can see the bigger picture and you get to watch the heroine (Reyna) discover and figure out what you had already guessed. Even being able to see the bigger picture, there were still unexpected twists and an ending that I didn’t see coming. Blood Type completely consumed me, and I am desperate to get my hand on book #2, Blood Match, which thankfully releases at the end of June. Bring it on – I can’t wait for more Reyna and Beckham.
Reviewers on the Wicked Reads Review Team were provided a free copy of Blood Type (Blood Type #1) by K.A. Linde to read and review.
As paranormal romances go, this was an ideal read for someone who has never ventured into the paranormal world before.
This story is set either in the future, or an alternative earth, because vampires basically live harmoniously amongst humans to a certain extent, thanks to Visage Incorporated. Reyna, 100% human, decides to pay a visit to Visage in order to make a better life for herself and her two brothers. It is there she meets the Vice President of Visage, Beckam Anderson, definitely 100% vampire.
What struck me most about this book was the fact that it felt more like a Millionaire/CEO romance than a paranormal read, which is why I am convinced it is an ideal beginner to this genre.
I would have loved to have learnt more about the biology of these vampires. I would have also preferred it if Reyna played a little more hard to get as far as Beckham was concerned. Overall though this was quite an enjoyable read indeed.
I don’t read a lot of paranormal books, but I’m a huge fan of this author so I wanted to give it a shot. I thought the story was definitely entertaining. It was very Twilight meets Divergent or the Hunger Games. Becks intrigued me from the beginning. I had a hard time getting into the story, but once I was in, the story sucked me in. The writing in this other world makes you believe that you are in this world of vampires and humans. You don’t know who can be trusted and who can’t be. To me, the only draw back was I found Reyna annoying at times. I found her constant running away from things a little different from what I’d expect from a strong female heroine. I really enjoyed book 1 of the story though and there is a big cliffy so I hope book 2 gets here soon!
Paranormal reads are my favorite type of books so when I read the blurb to this book I knew I had to read it. I went into this story with an open mind and no expectations. I did not want to compare this book to other paranormal books and I’m glad I didn’t because there is no other book quite like this one. I have to be honest though. This story started off slow, but I’m glad I stuck with it because it definitely picked up. The suspense within this story was EVERYTHING! I absolutely loved the back and forth banter between Reyna and Beckham. I had quite a few laughs at their antics and at the same time I wanted to slap some sense into both of them. This story had so many twists and turns and the end of it left me speechless. Characters I thought were trustworthy became enemies and enemies became friends. This story ended with a HUGE cliffhanger and I can’t wait to read what happens next. I wasn’t ready for it to end but I definitely look forward to reading the next book in this series. I recommend this book to all paranormal lovers, but just know that yes the story starts off slow but stick with it because it does get better and this is a story worth reading.
This series has been at the top of my “most anticipated” reads since Kyla announced it. I am usually not over the moon into this paranormal type genre mixed with some romance, but Kyla found a way for this first book in the series to consume me and I devoured this in 2 sittings!
The first of the series, Blood Type, we are thrust into a world that is very different from our own. Vampires have changed the world and the way humans live in it. In an almost dystopian society of sorts, Reyna seeks out a job at the largest company in the world, Visage. She is placed with the very brooding and mysterious Beckham Anderson. He’s a higher up in Visage and she is placed with him as his blood escort. What she expects her world to look like, is far from what occurs once she steps foot into Becks life. The things she wants from him, he won’t give her. The things she was expecting from him, she doesn’t get.
While their chemistry is obvious form the first moment they meet, the distance he places between them is very surprising and unnerving to Reyna. Becks is a character that provides us so much angst and edginess, you are not sure whether to love or hate him (I choose the later). As the story begins to unfold and new characters are placed into the mix, you see what is really going on in this world of humans living amongst the more dominant vampires. As expected, Kyla has added enough twists and turns to keep your head spinning throughout the entire book and not know where or when it will stop.
This is the first of a series of 3 books and does end in a cliffhanger. Even if you aren’t a paranormal romance reader, you will be after you read this book. My whole perspective on the literary world was jolted into a tail spin. Kyla has managed lure me into this genre and my new obsession over this series!
Blood Match, coming June 26th. My heart, dying slowly everyday til then.
