Another fabulous trip into the world of The Black dagger brotherhood !! I love this spin off! The legacy series is always action packed with the next generation of warriors and the women that fight and love along side them. Boone has been one of my fave trainees from the beginning I knew Jr was planning something special for him as soon as he stepped up and showed his loyalty to the brotherhood. And helaine was a perfect fit for this warrior!!she is a strong, loyal woman who is out to find the monster who murdered her sister and two other women even if it means drawing the eye of the killer. I’m not going to go on about what this book was about,it’s already been done beautifully by so many awesome reviews. But instead I will tell you what I think, Jr Ward is a fabulous storyteller and this world she has created is why I love paranormal romance!! Her men are complexed, scarred and sometimes walking a fine edge, with so much weight on their shoulders that sometimes the lines begin to blur. They are dark hero’s,but hero’s none the less. I wasn’t worried about Boone even though he was starting to crossing the line, but Syn had me scared!!! Even though he is dark and dangerous,I fucking love this band of bastards warrior!! And in this book Jr let’s us know more about this bad boy!!! Syn isn’t just vampire,he’s a mythical beast renowned for its sexual prowess and stamina! Where do I sign up!!! The thing I love the most about this series is that not only do we get to meet new character’s ,but all the original brotherhood and their mates and children are interwoven into the stories as well. No one does snark better then Vishous, the shit that comes out of his mouth never ceases to amaze me and I won’t soon forget the bolted chair scene,so like vishous!! Until next time luv’s
Another fantastic book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood Legacy series.
I’m behind on my BDB books, but I was able to jump into Blood Truth just fine! What I love about this ‘spin off’ of sorts is that you get interactions with the Brothers and get introduced to new characters from all different walks of life. Boone is part of the glymera (aristocracy) and defies his family by not going through with his arranged mating and then joining the training program with the Brotherhood. While you don’t have to have read every book in the series, it does help if you are familiar with the world. Ward has created her own language and at this point in the series, there are a LOT of characters. In Blood Truth, we get more Butch, the former human cop. I have to admit, I wasn’t thrilled at first because Butch wasn’t my fav, but I loved it!
Helania is desperate to find out who killed her sister and she is willing to put herself in danger to accomplish her task. I loved Helania. She is so memorable. After her sister dies, she is desperate to figure out what happened. Her sister was her life and for the 8 months she has been gone, Helania is kind of drifting. Once she meets Boone, she knows they are meant to be and she begins to realize there is someone she can count on. I just loved her spirit! Boone is a great boyfriend too-dedicated and not afraid to admit his feelings. But, their meeting is happening at a dangerous time: there is a killer on the loose, Boone’s father was murdered, and something is up with the Bastard Syn.
Blood Truth delivers everything you have come to love about the entire BDB world. There is plenty of action, lots of questionable behavior (even, at times, from the “good guys”!), and steamy romance that will ignite your kindle. No one manages to write about SO MANY characters and keep everything moving along in the plot. Ward is the master of her craft. The world she has created is beautifully intricate and raw. If you want to lose yourself in a story, Blood Truth will take you away to Caldwell and the Brotherhood for a few hours!
Another great JR Ward classic!
it will seriously give you a book hangover and make you want to go back and re read the entire series all over again!!! you will so fall in love with each and every brother/shellan and character just like it is the first time once more!!!
Boone and Helania are amazing as are each and every one of the people you will find in this book, it will make you need more and more from the Warden!!!
It is a must read ,could not put book down.
Let’s preface this by saying I am a huge fan of the Black Dagger Brotherhood (BDB). I’ve read every book, novella, and spin-off to Blood Truth. I’m a bigger fan of the BDB Legacy book series, so I had high hopes for this book. Boone is the quintessential good guy in the book that he has been since he first appeared in the series except for one mishap in Blood Truth. I won’t give away what happened, but he messed up big time and another insider of the Brotherhood took the heat. Boone gets away with it and as a reader, I’m left wondering who is the real Boone? Is he a villain who hasn’t gone off the deep end yet or a good guy who snapped under the stress for a one-off mistake?
The love story is a JR Ward gem and love interest, Helania is a delightful mix of vulnerable and feisty female. She is part of the civilian class. Boone has fallen out of favor with the glymeria but stayed in top status by training with the Brotherhood. I love the legacy books series because it explores the class system of Ward’s world and focuses on how day-to-day life outside of Darius’s mansion. In Blood Truth, we get to see a happy family who isn’t insanely rich contrasted with the plastic culture of the glymeria. It reminds the reader that not all vampires are serviced by doggins and Ward’s world has a middle-class.
Overall, Blood Truth is a good story to connect the inciting event at the end of The Savior while setting up The Sinner. Boone’s character is left up in the air, but I guess his fate will have me reaching for the next legacy book, not that I wouldn’t be anyway.
I have said from the first few book that Qhuinn is my favorite character, but oh my, Boone gave him a run for his money. Honestly J.R. Ward had me guessing the whole book. Helania is looking for the person who killed her sister, andr when she finds another dead female she calls the Brotherhood. After losing his sire Boone is taken off rotation but allowed to help Butch look for the killer. I really hope we get more trainee books. I love their stories and hope there is a second group since everyone in this one has had a book.
Blood Truth was an excellent addition to the Black Dagger Legacy series. I love this world, the suspense, and the heat. Boone and Helania were awesome!
As a trainee of the Black Dagger Brotherhood, Boone has found his true calling fighting and not being part of the glymera. After the death of his sire though he is taken off rotation and assigned to help Butch catch a serial killer who is targeting females of the species at a roleplaying club. The last thing he expects is to cross paths with a mysterious woman who he can’t stop wanting.
“You bring me to my knees and lift me up at the same time. It’s the definition of magic.” – Boone
I quite enjoyed this book. Boone was part of the glymera but he acts nothing like them. He is protective, a good fighter, a good friend but, most importantly, he is kind. He learned to be a good person by living through the negativity of the gylmera and his father’s expectation. Helaine is hunting for her sister’s killer when she meets Boone. I liked these two and really enjoyed watching them fall in love. The romance, while good, doesn’t have the powerful emotional impact that previous BDB books have had but I do still love it.
Butch and Syn are the other two main focuses in this book. I love Butch so I was so excited to see him play a prominent role again. Butch is using his skills as a homocide detective to find the killer. Unfortunately, the case is eating away at him because it reminds him of his sister. I loved the scenes with Butch and Helaine connecting and helping each other through their trauma.
Syn is part of the Bastards. In this book we are finally getting to learn about the Bastards individually and their issues. Syn clearly has some mental issues and appears to be suicidal. Basically this book is setting up his story and some of the things we might expect in it.
Overall, this was another great addition to the series and I cannot wait for more.
I looove this book universe. I love both the Black Dagger Brotherhood series and the Legacy one. I’m hooked om Ward’s vampire world.
Unfortunately, Blood Truth is not one of Ward’s best stories. It’s actually way down on the bottom.
For starters, I had real trouble getting into the story. And I consider myself a hard-core fan. Half-way through the plot picked up though, and after that I couldn’t put it down. But that was due to the murder plot and not because I was particularly engaged in Boone’s and Helania’s shenanigans. In fact, I was almost entirely indifferent to what they were up to. Romantically or otherwise. What kept me reading were the other characters, the original Black Dagger Brotherhood crew. Because really, neither Boone nor Helania had any kind of personality. Those two characters couldn’t have been more meh. And that’s despite Boone torturing a rapist and chopping off his dangly bits.
I can’t pinpoint exactly what’s lacking in Blood Truth, but this book just feels like it was written on some kind of auto-pilot. And when combining all these things; a new romance, introducing new characters, murder-solving and also adding tidbits about the original crew, none of those things gets done with the care or depth they deserve. It’s obvious that character development wasn’t a priority and even the glimpses of the much loved original Black Dagger gang was perfunctory. They were predictable in a way suggesting each of them is very much the sum of just a few fixed traits and not the three-dimensional characters they once appeared to be.
So I’m disappointed. But I’m also a total sucker for this series and one dud won’t prevent me from reading the future installments.

I’m finally nearly caught up on the Black Dagger Brotherhood series.
This one took me a long time to read. But it wasn’t the fault of the book. Because once I finally focused on it, I finished it pretty quickly.
It wasn’t as action packed as the Saviour, although it does branch off from an event that takes place in it.
It also delves a bit deeper into Syn’s character which makes me even more excited to get to The Sinner.
This book centres on another of the trainees Boone who honestly might be the cutest of all the trainees. He’s the most cinnamon roll character in this series since Blaylock.
After he’s taken off rotation he’s paired with Butch to investigate a crime. Then he meets Helania, a civilian vampire investigating the same crime.
Cuteness ensues. Drama ensues. Action ensues. The end.
Continuity error 1- Butch reforming outside of Haver’s, he can’t de materialize. 2. Her parents died in the 50’s then they were around in the 60’s. 3. Boone’s ankle was messed up already when he was chasing that Lesser in chapter one then in chapter eleven he says he messed his ankle up jumping out of the bed.
Other than the above stated this was a good murder mystery.
J.R. Ward is still rocking it.
For once, I felt the entire book was focused entirely upon one main storyline and romance! There is always depth to the characters and hints of previous and new stories, like Syn’s, to come, but I didn’t feel like I was reading two books at the same time in this one like the previous BDB Legacy novels! So while I wished for more umph with our couple, they were rather mild, I really did enjoy the read!
Like of of J. R. Ward’s Books in this series, I really enjoyed this one. I cannot wait for the next one.

I loved the suspense in this one, and how Helania and Boone’s partnership turned romantic as they tried to discover who killed her sister and the others.
Performance – 5 stars!
Jim Frangione brought his A-game to his performance as usual for this Black Dagger Brotherhood spin off series. It’s always a no brainer for me to choose the audiobook format over the e-book or the physical book copy for my read.
Overall – 5 stars!
I did an immediate quick reread until my library loan period ended. Bravo, Warden!
Another great addition to the BDL series and to the greater BDB story-arc. Both Boone and Helania were wonderfully relatable characters. I loved seeing these two rather lonely souls find each other and make a romantic connection. The murder mystery was a nice touch, too. I enjoyed seeing Butch in investigator mode again and loved learning more about Syn. I’m very much looking forward his book as well as the next BDL book.
The Hits Just Keep Coming, Another Complete K.O. By The Keeper of The Lore : The Warden!
How is it possible to fall in love with every leading Male Character of Worth in every book (old or new, including the gay Males / Females) & Love every Female Fighter or Character as a Sister or BFF? This is Ms Ward’s gift to us all wrapped up in the beautiful pages of this Unputdownable Series & World that hides in the Mhis & Shadows of our own!
How many authors have have this insane ability to have no bad characters?
Even the Bad Guy’s, the one’s you can’t wait to see die screaming in pain are awesome, written by a true literacy Genius.
Not 1 bad story in 25 Books (including the 3 novela’s # 15.5 ‘Dearest Ivie’,
# 16.5 ‘Prisoner of the Night’ & # 17.5 ‘Where Winter finds You’ from the Black Dagger Brotherhood Series & The Black Dagger Legacy Series’s.
All hard hitting knock down blockbusters, full of outrageous witty humor and banter, love, passion & heartache, violence, fighting, protection and Sex, Sex, Sex for these Males & Females Are Sex Personified!!!
I have missed the Brotherhood Series so much, but reading ‘The Legacy Series’ brings all our favourites back to the forefront, giving us a deeper look inside the loves, lives & marriages of these Bonded / Mated Males & their Females. My only digress is that it’s always Butch V, and Rage who seem to run the Training Program & unfortunately we’re not getting enough updates of the other brothers mates lives, loves & families.
The Brother Butch aka The Dhestroyer an ex cop plays a pivotal role in this series & book as he runs the The Training Centre Program, putting The Recruits through their paces but, in this novel we have a serial killer on the loose targeting Females of the Species at The Vampire Role Playing Club ‘Pyre’s Revyval’, frequented by both Human’s & Vampires alike.
Alongside new Recruit Boone, Butch & And Newcomer Helaina all investigate the killings from Pyre, but is Helaina involved with the murders or hunting the killer? Is serial killer someone they all know & will they solve the case in time before a fourth victim turns up?
It’s been a few months since reading a J.R. Ward Book & boy did I miss her exemplary quality writing.
I miss the fighting scenes with the Lessers which are not as in depth or usually glossed over in this series as the focus has shifted more to relationships & the building of what I think will be the Species Services, much like our Human Services Department equivalent.
This Book # 4, Blood Truth, I found to be quite different from books 1-3.
This story was more like the original Black Dagger Brotherhood Series Books than the Legacy Series, just without the Lesser Fights & instead of focusing in on just 1 Recruit & 1 Brother in Butch plus the love interest for the Recruit, it also followed that of Syn from the Band of Bastards as well as Boone’s Father’s Butler Marquist & Boone’s failed intended Rochelle.
The dynamics of the special relationship of a bonded couple, a Shellan & her Hellren, so different to husband & wife.
The Brotherhood, The Recruits &
the Band of Bastards bought together by love, family, training, war & camaraderie keeping the rest of the species safe from the horrors of the Lessening Society & their sick wack job leader The Omega & his plans to wipe Vampires from the face of the Earth is really not going to plan for the Omega, he seems to fighting a losing battle with our fighters only coming across newly turned Lessers, but with the new threat of shadows & now a serial killer they are facing danger from all angles as well as the constant possibility of being ‘outed’ by Rats without Tails
So what’s next in store for the Brotherhood, The Band of Bastards & the Recruits I’m sure J.R. Will keep us on our toes guessing!
Mrs Ward has created a one of a kind world, it’s so unique, there will never be a duplication of her world, her characters, or her writing style.
It’s always eventful, has you on the edge of your seat, is fast paced & delivers action like a blockbuster movie in each & every book! Would make an absolutely Awesome TV Series!
This talented Author has such a way with words and writes the greatest sex scenes with ease, more masculine like, but comes both from a woman’s and man’s perspective usually, but using terminology that doesn’t make me gag when I read it.
Yes it’s different, And Yes it’s amazing, but it’s never too vulgar or crass and it never makes me feel sick to read it .
It’s my belief we’re witnessing what will soon become the new Black Dagger Social Services Department, but I think there’s more to it than a police force.
Sort of like the our human services equivalent, with more than just law enforcement, but finally a structured service & not just the rich of the Glymera, but for all of the race.
Services full of Psychologist, Psychiatrists & Socal workers, Lawyers, Scientist, Doctors, Dentists, Nurses, Analysts, Surgeons, Detectives, the whole nine yards taking Vampire Society in the future once the war subsides.
Hallelujah we’re finally seeing more substantial roles for women including what I believe will soon be Female Brothers, not just Female fighters, fighting alongside the Brotherhood.
This is the beginning of the Modern Vampire Society & I’m glad I was along for the ride & the transition, but am worried it’s all coming to an end. Especially with J.R. now expanding into the non Fantasy Series such as her new Fire Fighting Series & The Bourbon Kings.
I Borrowed This Hardback From My Local Library & This Is My Fair, Honest & Impartial Review
I RATE BLOOD TRUTH 4.9OUT OF 5!
Deep, Emotional & Epic The Warden Lives Up To Her Title Again & Again & Again & Again
We are getting Boone’s story and wowzers what an explosive, action-packed story this is.
Boone has tried to reason with his father, to save him from the night he knows is about to happen however he has always been a nobody to his father.
He hates being an aristocrat and all the BS that goes with it.
Helenia had only her sister left in this world, and now she is gone poof just like a few other women from a local nightclub.
They think they know the killer but do they?
We get one heck of a good mystery and all the brothers to bring it to light…
Fantastic !!!
I borrowed the kindle edition through my local library!
