He saw her. He wanted her. And he paid for her.Vampires aren’t real. That’s what Tela has always believed. Always known. But everything changes when the violent blood drinkers take over her home of Seattle and cut off the city from any outside help. Without any food or supplies she has only one option: Cooperate with the new regime and offer her blood in exchange for a comfortable life for her … for her and her sister.
John came to Seattle for an escape. For freedom. For the possibility of a future. Policing the humans should be easy. They’re smaller, weaker and, well, prey. But when he Tela is assigned to him, things are different. He isn’t satiated by the taste of her blood. He hungers for so much more. More than she can give him and more than she can ever give him. Not while she’s been bought and paid for by him.

Wow!!! What a gr8 story. Real was barely living & caring for her teenage sister. The world as she knew it had gone to hell. Her city being invaded & held captive by vampires was not the life she had. But she meets John, a vampire, and she fights the attraction. Yeah, doesn’t work. I recommend this read. 5 Thumbs up
I really enjoyed this book. It is a different take on vampires which I loved! You read the same type of thing over and over in this genre and it’s nice to have a change! If you are into PNR books I highly recommend picking this one up!
The characters were fantastic and the story held my interest. I’m excited to see where this Novella takes us.
A Stark & Steamy Vampire Read With A Dystopian Feel. 4.5 Stars
Wow, I was thoroughly immersed in this storyline. It’s not really like anything I’ve read before regarding Vampire’s, or Vopura as they call themselves!!
Nearly four months ago Seattle was overrun then cut off from the outside world by a type walked force field. The invading force were the Vopura, Vampire like people, they have superior strength, hearing, looks, build & often intellect!! Many human’s died during the invasion & those that are left are struggling to survive. Food prices have gone through the roof & normal jobs have ground to a halt.
Tela & her sister Dani are barely scraping by. Tela finally does the only thing she can – she signs up to become a blood donor/food source to the Vopura!! Her first experience is bad, her throat is almost savaged!! John, who’s on guard duty steps in to get her home safely. He actually goes above & beyond that for her by helping find her sister too. His attitude confuses Tela, and Dani, as so far none of the invaders have shown any compassion or care towards their food!!
John was a slave until their invasion of Earth. He was granted his freedom for going as a Soldier. He’s inexplicably drawn to Tela & requests her as his donor on her next visit! They clearly lust after each other but she hated his species, rightly so too!! They’re depraved murderers & have the entire City under their thumb. As these two draw closer & more than sparks fly they both realise they have no future She has to do all she can go help humanity & he has to fight for the Vopura
This story is gripping, full of suspense & drama as well as a beautifully complicated budding, steamy, love story!!
The possibility of tragedy & loss cause unexpected & shocking consequences for all!!
This is an unmissable start to a brand new series. (I’d strongly recommend reading the Evil Rising series first – Sshhh)

This story grabbed my attention right away. And I’m not just talking about the mesmerizing eBook cover. Things in Tela’s world were bad but things took an even worse turn for her and her sister at least for a while……
Blood Price by Meloday Raven
John is a mass of conflicting feelings towards humans in general and Tela in particular. He started out feeling like what happened to them made no difference to him. That is until he met Tela and then his life became more complicated. Also in his new ways of living.
They keep trying to fight it but the attraction between John and Tela just keeps growing. And it’s so dangerous in so many ways. I liked the struggle that was added for John when it came to being a freed slave. I didn’t see that coming. And it was like he was also living on the edge knowing that his freedom could be taken from him at any time.
I really enjoyed how the relationship developed between John and Tela even with how hopeless things were for them. Neither one of them could see a future for themselves as a couple. And it was something that they both really wanted even though they had such loyalty to each of their species.
The ending came with some MAJOR surprises that I didn’t see coming but really enjoyed. And yes, I said surprises with an “s” because there were several.

A really cool dystopia!
4,25 stars
Tela is woman trying to survive human race’s new reality whilst taking care of her teenage sister.
John is former slave vampire/Vopura who is just now learning what freedom is, although he is not all fond of how vopura’s been treating humans.
Since his kind took over, humans from their city are locked inside like prisioners, living a new life where food is scarce and money is even scarcer, and all they do is try to make ends meet to survive, even if tht means selling their own blood.
That is the life Tela starts to live. But when she meets John, she begins to realize that not all of them are the same, and some vampires can be more than considerate.
Despite their differences, their chemistry becomes undeniable, even if that put both at risk.
And when time comes, they need to decide where their loyalty sits: each other or their own people.
3.5 Stars and a Cliffhanger!
I have to be honest. Vampire books are not really my cup of tea. I guess I’m more of a shifter person, and mostly wolves at that.
John and Tela ‘s story was something different. I’m not sure if I missed something with the whole Volpura/Vampire thing. I think Vampires were not new to the environment and Volpura were recent arrivals. As I said, not 100% about sure about that.
It was interesting watching Tela struggle with her feelings for John as he did the same. I found the entire concept of this book to be interesting. An alien? force invades the Earth, sort of?
I am not sure how I feel about the characters. I think I like John. I am not sure about Tela, and Dani was just irritating. Dante was confusing.
The book is kind of romantic, steamy, and weird. There is intrigue, secrets, and surprising twists. There is also a cliffhanger.
I voluntarily read and reviewed the Advanced Reader Copy.
Paranormal romance isn’t my normal go-to, but I do enjoy Melody Raven’s way of combining romance, intrigue and conflict between humans and in this story, vampires, or Vopura, as they like to be called. Is there a difference? We’re not quite sure, but the clarification is made more than once by our Vopurian Hero, John, which is the simple name he chose because his Vopurian name is “hard to say.”
The Vopura have invaded Seattle, essentially taking it hostage as there is a magic gate that keeps the residents locked in. During the invasion, many of the human businesses were looted so our heroine, Tela, is out of a job. Because she’s desperate for money to feed herself and her younger sister, she agrees to be a blood donor for the vampires, which is how she meets John. John is unfamiliar with human idioms and customs so it’s a bit comical at times when he tries to understand the literal meaning of something. Tela starts to struggle with her feelings toward John since she’s supposed to despise the vampires for essentially enslaving the humans in their city. Meanwhile, her sister, Dani, convinces her to meet with a group of people who are trying to fight back to regain control of Seattle, but they need Tela’s help.
I liked the slow buildup to John and Tela’s relationship and the internal struggle she must deal with if she decides to go against John and the other vampires. This book ends with a climactic event which I can’t wait to find out what happens next!
3.75 stars–BLOOD PRICE is the first novella in Melody Raven’s contemporary, adult NEW BREED post apocalyptic, paranormal romance series. This is human blood donor Tela Beckford, and vampire John’s story line.
Told from dual third person perspectives (John and Tela) BLOOD PRICE follows in the aftermath of the vampire invasion in which the Vopura have placed a barrier around Seattle from which no one can enter, or is allowed to leave. Desperate for money to feed herself and her younger sister, Tela becomes a human blood donor in order to survive. Enter vampire John, a former Vopura slave, and the man with whom Tela would fall in love. What ensues is the building relationship between John and Tela, and the fall-out as the Resistance approaches our story line heroine, asking her to help take down the ruling Vopura.
John is aware that most of his life is out of his control but meeting Tela, a human blood donor sparks something deep within our story line hero something that he battles knowing his vampire lifestyle is a threat to the woman with whom he will fall in love. Tela will do just about anything to feed and house her sister including selling herself to creatures who are threatening their lives on a daily basis. Willing to speak her mind, no matter the cost, Tela battles between head and heart when is comes to freeing the people she loves.
The relationship between John and Tela begins as a business arrangement shortly after John discovers that Tela has been brutally used by another vampire. Never having partook of what the humans offer, John arranges for his next meal from the woman he so desperately will try to save. The sexual attraction is immediate but Tela fears getting too close to a man who could destroy her life. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
We are introduced to John’s former master Dante, as well as the Vopura leader Mikel ; Tela’s sister Dani, as well as resistance fighters Travis and Angelique.
BLOOD PRICE is a quick read; a fast paced story of opposites attract between a human and vampire. The premise is engaging; the characters are colorful and energetic; the romance is fated and exciting. I would have liked a little more background information about the Vopura invasion…but such is the nature of a novella length story line.
