Mystery thriller that takes place in Hawaii on the Big Island. The author lives on the islands and has interwoven the food, the language (pidgin) and sites of island into the story.
Interesting, fast-read with lots of island history. The plot was believable; the female lead kept her emotions in check.
Too much evil in the world, why am I reading about it at night when I can’t sleep?
I thought this was a well written book that kept my attention throughout the book. I loved the main characters and how they related to each other. It was full of surprises that were shocking to say the least! I want to read more of what goes on with these characters and what the author has to say in the next books. A great beginning to a series …
Keeps the reader on the edge of his/her seat. You think you know what happens next, then, SURPRISE! Just enough intrigue to keep you going, not much gore, but enough mystery.
The Lei Texeira series set in Hawaii are better than average action/thriller/mystery
reads. Lei is trying to learn to temper her tough and sassy approach with savvy to become a better and longer-lived detective. Having Hawaii as the locale doesn’t hurt the stories either.
I found the characters in Blood Orchid to be well crafted and some of them surprised me as the story twisted and turned. I quickly identified with several of the characters and tried my best to help them figure out who dun it. A great read that I did not want to put down.
I have more of Toby’s books in my reading queue.
A fast-paced detective story with a budding romance. A bit too many action-packed moments. Lots of descriptions of the sounds, signs, and smells of Hawaii.
Believe it or not this is my first book I’ve read by Toby Neal. It is one of many that have been in my “ to be read pile” for 2 years.
Yes I know.
Well now that situation has been rectified and I can put my hand on my heart and say that I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I was totally engrossed in the story and I know it’s an old line, but I …
Good book. Lei is a well developed character and you can feel the struggle inside her
Exciting to read
Blood Orchids
(Paradise Crime Mysteries, Book 1)
By: Toby Neal
Narrated by: Sara Malia Hatfield
This is an amazing mystery for a serial killer. The main characters are cops. The book is very character driven but has plenty of clues too! Very easy to fall into this world.
The narration is spot on.
An amazing story from beginning to end. The author’s fluent writing style captured your imagination as she took to you on this wild ride.
Lei’s character was believable and invoked heart-felt emotions so that you could really experience her own struggle as she went in search of a serial stalker/rapist.
Well done. A book I will definitely …
The last four years of college, I haven’t been able to get through a joy-read book because of limited time and focus. This is the first book I’ve been able to finish in 5 years, it’s a big deal for a me as a person who grew up loving books. Great characters, an engaging plot that makes this book a great page turner!
Don’t read this book, unless you’re willing to race though all 12 books in the series. Toby Neal does a great job with combining police procedural with thriller (OK, sometimes all the adventures and danger are a little much, but it’s all good fun, like an action-packed summer blockbuster), and characters that you care about and that grow. Makes me …
Great read, love the descriptions of Hawaii, feels like I’m there.
another good read
I THINK THIS BOOK IS REALLY RETARTED!! NEVER AGAIN
Just please read this book and experience the rollercoaster ride I went on!
Murder mystery whose main characters are likable, with light romantic overtones.
Plenty of twists to keep u reading.
