A young lawyer’s outwardly perfect life spirals out of control as she takes on her first murder case in this “dark, original and utterly compelling” domestic noir for readers of Paula Hawkins, A.J. Finn, or Shari Lapena. (Lisa Jewell, New York Times bestselling author of Then She Was Gone)Alison has it all. I did it. I killed him. I should be locked up.

BLOOD ORANGE kept me frantically turning the pages, desperate to know what would happen next. A superb, compulsive read!
Intriguing….A surefire bestseller!
A classic thriller with complex and compelling characters.
A fantastic debut. Dark. Twisted. I read it in one heart-stopping sitting!
BLOOD ORANGE is a brilliant marriage between psychological suspense and legal thriller. The debut novel of the year. It’s a stunning portrayal of both one woman’s fight for justice for an accused murderer – and of a life spinning out of control. Harriet Tyce is now on my ‘must read’ list.
BLOOD ORANGE is destined to be a debut that everyone is talking about in 2019. Dark, original and utterly compelling, I could not put it down. And what a twist at the end!
I received a paperback ARC of this from ThrillerFest in July. It’s an absorbing read and I had trouble putting it down. A great setting of London. Clean, crisp prose. Dark story line.
Look for it in February, 2019. Thanks to the publisher for an early copy.
At first, when you learn about the main character, Alison, it’s inevitable that you will take an instant dislike to her. The reckless behaviour, excessive drinking, poor decision making, all add up to someone whom you would never want to make friends with. However, just like the blood orange in the title, as layers are peeled back, it becomes apparent that Alison is also a victim. Consequences, lies and deceit all make for a tumultuous ride & no matter if you like your heroine with a little more integrity, it’s still a book that keeps giving to the last page.
This was a great and entertaining read – I enjoyed this novel very much!
Great plot twist! Can’t wait for her next book!
If you liked “Girl on the Train”, you’ll love this page-turner!
Lousey! Would not recommend!
Blood Orange is a debut from Harriet Tyce and while it definitely kept me engaged, I didn’t enjoy it near as much as I was hoping to.
Once again I seem to be the odd man out. I loved the concept of Blood Orange and the way it blends a domestic drama with a legal thriller, but I just could not get past my dislike of Alison. She’s whiny, irresponsible, she drinks too much, and it really bothered me that she wouldn’t stand up to her husband. I know a lot of people found her relatable, but I just found her irritating.
I almost ended up quitting because of Allison but decided to keep going in the hopes the end would redeem the book for me and I’m glad I did. The end was very shocking, and I didn’t see it coming at all. There was even a twist with her murder case that was a nice addition. Blood Orange is definitely not a happy book, but I thought it was well done and paced well enough that it keeps you reading. I listened to the audio and maybe that’s why I disliked Allison as much as I did. The narrator, Julie Teal, was SO good and made Allison and her choices and pain seem even more real.
Almost everyone loved this book so I would definitely still recommend it! I wish I would have enjoyed it more, but the end was good, and the legal aspect really kept me going. Blood Orange may not be a perfect fit for me, but it might be for you!
Fantastic! A good page turning, twisty turny dark thriller. Akin to Girl on the Train but not as eeked out which I found better.
Alison sees herself as a less-than-perfect wife and mother. She is also a rising barrister having an extra-marital affair with a colleague. Whilst defending a woman charged with murdering her controlling husband, she begins to receive threatening texts from someone who appears to know all her guilty secrets.
With its carefully interwoven plot, this is a well written story of innocents and guilt, obsession and control. A recommended read.
I really liked it. It was easy to read, it kept you on edge .
Suspenseful and surprising. Never expected the ending
I really enjoyed this suspenseful book. I stayed up late too many nights.
This book was very hard to put down. I had to keep reading to see what would happen in the end, and boy, I did not see this one coming. Blood Orange by Harriet Tyce is a bold, gripping thriller that had me hanging on every word!
Alison is a criminal law barrister in London who has the perfect life. An adorable daughter, a husband who is doting on her and her little one, and she has just been given her first murder case. Insert first problem, Alison’s serious drinking addiction. When out with friends and colleagues, she makes a fool of herself, never knowing when to say enough is enough. Insert second problem, her continuing affair with her boss, Patrick. She knows it needs to end, but she can’t bring herself to actually stop it.
While working her first big murder case, something about it just doesn’t seem right. A woman who is happily married, finds herself being accused of murdering her husband, stabbing him 15 times. The more Alison unravels the details in this case, the more she thinks there is something this woman is not telling her.
While juggling her fake perfect life, her secret affair, her drinking problem and her first big break at work, Alison starts to receive sinister texts telling her someone knows what she is doing. Is someone watching her? Do they know about her secret affair? Slowly Alison’s world starts to spiral out of control, along with her sanity and her grasp on reality.
This book is so addictive! From the character developments, to the plot twists, even the dialogue, I was shocked to find out this is Harriet Tyce’s debut novel! I am blown away by her writing, her use of pace and even the dark, sinister twists that I didn’t see coming! Tyce is definitely an author I am going to have to keep my eye out for in the future!
My inner tug-of-war with the main character, Alison, gave me major whiplash. I wasn’t going to pity her because of her drinking habits and her decision to have an affair, but then as more details were revealed about her husband, I did a major U-turn on her. I honestly didn’t see this ending coming and that’s what makes this book so good!
If you’re looking for a dark, suspenseful thriller that makes you sit on the edge of your seat, look no further than Harriet Tyce’s debut novel Blood Orange. This book is a haunting reminder to readers what a destructive person can not only do to themselves, but also the people they love — through booze, sex and even the desire for success — someone’s perfectly fake life can come crumbling down. I highly recommend this book!

Really didn’t like any of the characters (minus the six year old daughter) but nonetheless, could not put this book down and read it in ONE DAY. Lots of twists!
