How do I do this without giving away any spoilers? I feel that, being the end of a trilogy, it is quite hard to review this book without slapping in a few spoilers because they’re soooo important to the story and the end result, but if I do, I’m going to ruin the book for you. I just have to say that if you’re into fast moving action filled novels, you need to read this. The entire trilogy is fast paced and filled with action, but on this final instalment Sarina Langer is taking no prisoners and she leaves no room for breathing! Your heart will be constantly racing as you’re taken from one moment of ‘OMG HOW ARE THEY GETTING OUT OF THIS ALIVE?’ to a moment of ‘OMG I WAS NOT EXPECTING THIS AT ALL!’ And if you’ve become as attached to these characters as I did, get ready for a few heartwrenching moments.
Again I need to say, where it comes to characters my favourite are indeed the females here. They’re like real people, with flaws and weaknesses, not ‘out of this world’ perfect strong individuals who never do wrong and never flail. I particularly love Kaida, which has been a constant from the moment she shows up on book 2. But I also like Cephy and Rachael so much because I can find traces of myself in them, in their reasons and their actions, their fears and their dreams. Ijust wish there was more of it, honestly, and perhaps a bit more insight into these three women, for they are truly the ones who make the entire trilogy, as far as I’m concerned.
This was such a fast read, which made it bittersweet – on the one hand, I simply could not put it down, but on the other, knowing this was the end made my heart ache with longing.
But there will always be another Sarina Langer book to look forward to, and I am already jumping in anticipation of the next one!
Very good review to open the book. Once in to the story it was fast paced. With a lot going on, there is a lot of back and forth between scenes. That was done in a way that was not distracting. I do strongly recommend the book.
Coming full circle back to where it all began, this book pulled together threads from the previous two books and brought closure to many issues. Despite the grandiose stakes, the book remained tightly focused on a relatively small group of main characters. While much of this story was of necessity dark and violent, it was punctuated by human compassion and humor. It is amazing the change some of these characters have undergone since book 1!
The ending was satisfying and heartbreaking all at the same time. Inevitable in some ways. This arc is finished, but the story of Rachel’s kingdom; that has just begun. (Tiny spoiler, both the romantic arcs got HEAs 🙂
This is book 3 in a trilogy and while each book contains a full story arc, they build on each other and should be read in order to appreciate the full breadth of the story.
