Before the earth splinters into continents, before the first raindrops fall from the sky, only one family is destined for salvation. Denah is not among them by choice. Her husband is a disgrace, her sisters-in-law are cursed, and the family adheres to the rigid demands of an outdated God. Denah simply wants the life she deserves. She will follow her own forbidden path to fulfillment, encountering … encountering blackmail, jealousy, and betrayal along the way. What she deserves turns out to be far different than what she imagines, and she must face the tumultuous consequences of her decisions before the past and future of all mankind collide in the shadow of Noah’s ark.

It just makes the story of Noah more real and amazing….also frightening because our time is getting to be more and more like noah’s
I couldn’t put it down it had many twists and turns and surprises.
This historical fiction pulls the reader in by its twists and turns and betrayal and deceit. The novel starts the Generations of Noah series by telling the love story of Noah’s son, Japheth, and the bride purchased for him by his father. His brothers are already married, but neither have children and there is a rumor of a curse. Japheth’s bride, Denah, is unfamiliar with the traditions of Noah’s family and their god. She doesn’t understand why they are so against the gods of her family, especially the goddess of fertility. All of this leads to some poor decisions and eventually she must face the consequences of those decisions, as one bad decision leads to another. Will Denah give Japheth a son? Will she get to go onto the ark when when rains start or must Japheth find another? Will she ever be accepted by her mother-in-law and the sisters-in-law? Can she save her own father and sister from the coming disaster, although they join in the ridicule by the townspeople? Can Noah’s grandfather, Methuselah, help Denah find the God Who Sees, but cannot be seen or heard by anyone but Noah?
Neal has done a lot of research on this familiar Old Testament story of the days of Noah and the building of the ark in a time when the generations of Adam lived hundreds of years. She incorporates the biblical account into a believable story of the life of Noah up to he flood. The details that are included, which are given in Genesis, are accurate. Neal fills in the story line of Denah and Japheth with conjecture true to the traditions and customs of that time, as she explains in the afterword.
Rachel Neal’s trilogy of the family of Noah before re and after the flood was superb.
New side to the Biblical story of Noah. Interesting and informative on the culture of the day.
Some of the information in the book is Biblically inaccurate.
Hubby & I both read & enjoyed this book! A well known Bible story with intriguing ‘possiblilities’
Unique perspective.
Finding biblical characters fleshed out in greater detail around what the scripture provides is added a wonderful perception of what it must have been like in the days of Noah. This kind of writing illuminates the story we have known all of our lives and gives new insight as to what it may have been like. I was completely caught up in the emotions surrounding the shame, the jealousy, the desire to be the best one can be in obedience to God, as well as the overwhelming feelings that come with deep and honest love, with true forgiveness. And much more. This was well researched and thoughtfully portrayed. I want to read more like it!
Interesting take on the story of Noah and the arc. No intence sex
Good fiction biblically based.
I liked it
I liked it. Plan to read the other 2 books.
It was a very original treatment of a great Bible story, without changing the original story! Very interesting ideas.
Very good reading
This book was a bit confusing for me. I did not enjoy it as much as others I have read.
Made me think on what could really happen in Biblical times.
Great series for lovers of historical biblical fiction!
Biblical historical fiction; well-written; very little is written about Noah’s daughters-in-law, so the author has created a very interesting and entertaining scenario.
I love to read about Noah’s Ark in the Old Testament. Recently I was thrilled to visit the “Ark Encounter” in Kentucky. Reading this wonderful book was truly entertaining and informative as well as enjoying a sweet love story.
