It was just supposed to be a fling…Sydney Hart has a dark secret. Something in her past that has made it impossible for her to ever be a good mother. It was only supposed to be a fling, but now she’s pregnant. And the father? He’s not exactly parent material either. When Lechiffre ‘Chief’ Canis, in the midst of a deadly shifter war, is confronted by the beautiful, fiery human woman from that … human woman from that night of passion … he is absolutely not expecting her to say she’s pregnant. With his baby.
But what he’s expecting even less is that Sydney is having doubts about raising a family. Or raising a family with him.
To a shifter, family is everything.
Desperate to show her who he truly is, as well as get his unborn child away from the civil war, Chief takes her on a cross country trip with dual purposes: He must recruit more shifters to the cause, and at the same time, maybe he can finally win her over.
But in both cases, there’s a ticking clock. When the time comes, he knows he’ll have to risk everything for family. But will everything be enough?

It was only supposed to be a fling, but now she’s pregnant but something in Sydney Hart’s past has made it impossible to be a good mother. Lechiffre ‘Chief’ Canis is in the midst of deadly shifter war and the last thing he’s expecting it to be told that the night of passion between him and the human woman is that she’s expecting his baby. But Sydney has doubts about raising a family with or without him and now Chief is desperate to show her who he really is, as well as get his unborn child away from the civil war. Too bad, nobody told his enemies to leave his mate alone.
This paranormal romance is sweet but very emotionally gripping and full of hair raising excitement that keeps readers cemented to the pages. The characters are strong and very convincing as they struggle with past emotional distress as well as the present emotional distress. Chief certainly wins hearts with attempts to convince Sydney that they can make things work while keeping her safe, although he does make the usual mistakes but from him they are kind of adorable.
The plot is a fast track road trip that should have been a ‘get to know one better’ time well spent but this trip has an excitingly dangerous edge to it as Chief’s enemies follow them with deadly intentions. The suspense builds throughout the story as the trip becomes a hike through the woods in order to reach a sanctuary that may not be really safe, which has readers biting their nails in hair raising anticipation and thrilling uncertainty.

All for the family
What a great addition to the series! Chief might have to work hard for the family he wasn’t expecting, but it will all be worth it when they reach their HEA. Along the way Chief and Sydney find out so much about themselves and each other creating a oneness that will make their future so very bright. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
Wonderful Storyline Just Keeps Getting Better.
Excellent Book two of the High House Canis Series. Love the Sydney character. Her snarky quips used to hide her childhood pain is spot on. She is the perfect pairing up with the Chief. Chief is beside himself when Sydney tells him she’s pregnant and wants to give the baby up for adoption. He proposes they go on a Babymoon to which she agrees but he has alternative motives.
Will this journey bring them closer? Will he reveal his true self?
Definitely recommending this book for your reading enjoyment and pleasure.
Peace.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. House Canis is still torn due to the Kings attitude. When the rebelions run out of options, Chief tries his best to gather some more men – and that’s in riding all the way to the West Coast to a Pack that split from House Canis a long time ago. As a matter of fact, he impregnated Sydney – and to keep her safe, he’s just taking her with him. Unfortunately, they are not alone ob their trip and soon time is running out to get to the West Coast Pack at all… A very wonderful story, as you get more and more background information of the House itself and why everything turned as it is now – a full out war…
ONE HOT EXPLOSIVE TREAT!!!
Man, oh man! Somebody call 9-1-1. Talk about smouldering, steamy and white-hot off the charts blazing. Riley brought out the flaming brilliance with this explosive, high octane sizzle that catapults this bad boy up a few levels. This bad boy brings all the heat, steam and a raging inferno with off the charts chemistry that will leave you breathless and craving more. One engaging storyline and gripping plot spin this baby bursting to life flawlessly. Twists and turns abound with all the trials and tribulations these guys go through that seem endless. The characters are authentic, approachable and realistic with such depth and individuality its easy to relate. The scenes are written with such realism you have no problem picturing each scenario as they play off one another perfectly. Amazing job Riley, thanks for sharing this little gem with us.
I love book 2 in the High House Canis series! The drama/war continues and Chief will do whatever it takes to protect Sydney, and their baby. This is another action packed, passion filled story that brings you into their world just a little more. I can’t wait for the next one!
What’s not to like about a feast of rollicking wolf shifter stories. Plenty of action, upset feelings, ending in love.
** spoiler alert ** Sydney doesn’t think she is capable of being a parent. Chief is determined to do anything to help his friends. Neither expected the other. Will Sydney see she isn’t her parents? Will Chief be able to gain support in the war?
I loved how Chief was determined to do anything he could to win her over. I didn’t blame Sydney for being scared, but loved seeing her gain strength and realize that she could do what she put her mind to. Good read and cannot wait to read the next in this series!
Chief is shocked when he is confronted by a furious one night stand accusing him of not using a comdom and getting her pregnant and that she is giving the baby up for adoption. Being in his forties ans never having met his mate he never thought he would have kids though he had always a family of his own, now he just had to convince Sydney to give it a try. Taking a trip to talk to and try to bring support to the rebellion to overthtough the tyrant-king seems like a good place to start. He talks Sydney into a “babymoon” and takes her along. He never intended for their the be any danger but their was nothing but. Sydney is positive she would make a terrible mother and just knows the best thing for the baby is to be raised by someone else. But Chief just keeps fighting her on it and has her questioning her decision. As she is almost killed and running from danger he not only keeps her safe but gets her to realize that just maybe he does want a future with her and their child. This was a really good story that kept the reader entertained. Thought it does connect with other books as a storyline of the war in th High House of Canis continues it can be read as a standalone. I read this book in exchange for an honest review.
I do LOVE these stories. This one is no exception. It is so well written it leaves tears in my eye at times. My heart beats faster when the wolves come after them in the forest. Scares the tar out of me when the one has Sydney in His claws squeezing. Excellent story. I received a complimentary review copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving a honest review.
The Canis House rebels have set up home at a large property right next door to Sydney’s small farm. When she goes over to complain about the noise one night, she meets Chief, a tall handsome hunk of manhood. Things happen and they end up in bed together for a powerful coming together. When she tells him that that is all there is and not to contact her again, he doesn’t. There are consequences to this night and she goes over in a fiery temper to confront Chief, accusing him of not using protection, which is entirely incorrect. What follows is a very long road trip, two accidents, their lives in danger, wolf shifters, and finally a happy ending. This story was fabulous and cannot wait to read more about Canis House.
