Fast-paced. Riveting. Emotional. This book brings it ALL! It was an artful melding of twisted psychological thrills and nail-biting suspense.
Love this series. I love following Bex. Always looking for more. Especially now with the ending of this book.
This story has lots of twist and turns. Who do you trust and why. What if someone you trust does something that makes you unhappy, what then. these are just some of the goings on in this story. Read it to find out.
I personally felt that Bex was not herself in this book compared to the previous books. Maybe it was because she wasn’t feeling well herself?
This is my honest and freely given review. I did receive an ARC book.
This story is about an American detective working in London with the Youth Crimes Team. But when her victim is the son of a high power crime king, can she protect him and keep him alive to testify against his own father? There are many people that are hiding secrets that make the detective’s job even harder. How does it all turn out? You will need to read the book for the answer. I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of this book from Booksprout.
trust is hard won, and it sometimes is bought with blood.
When the young grandson of a famous crime family is scooped up in a drug scheme, he dares to turn evidence on his family, as they were willing to let the weight of the crime fall on him – re-paying betrayal with betrayal.
except he fails to consider that they have resources he does not have in terms of connection, people, moneys.
he is faced with a large and lethal amount of anger and vengeance – and he must use all the skills, instincts and charm he has to try to survive.
the cost for others will be high.
Bex is a detective from the US, who has earned her way to a Superintendent position on a Youth Crimes team. It earned her budget headaches, and relative enmity from colleagues who might otherwise have offered some support – she is only a budget and position threat – not a long term potential ally.
Not the best position for Bex to try to recover from the loss of her husband – certainly not a good position to be in at all when asked to help keep the young witness alive.
When those who are meant to watch your back go for your throat, where should you turn in the end?
An edge of your seat suspense filled Brit procedural with global players, and international turbulence and turmoil – emotionally and otherwise.

Another fantastic book in the Bex Wynter series. This one involves a ‘family’ crime business. The oldest son, Griffin, is in jail waiting to testify against his father and the family business. When he’s shot in jail, Bex goes to visit him and finds out that all he wants is to get out of the family business, disappear, and be an artist. The Youth Crimes team needs to find out who ordered the hit on Griffin while the CID and the prosecution are scrambling to get the leader of the family, Griffin’s father, behind bars. In the meantime, there’s also a new member on the youth crimes team since they’re short handed and they have to find ways to cut the budget. There’s a lot going on and it makes for a fantastic book. Characters and plot make a book and this one has it all!
Elleby Harper has done it again, written a book that leaves the reader (me) wanting more and wanting her to hurry up and publish the next in this series. Although these can be stand alone books the recurring refrain is the heroine, American Bex Wynter and her British police team. This time they are up against putting away a well known crime Family. What is also good about Harper’s books is how each book also has a secondary story regarding one of the team members. You learn to like (or dislike) each character and begin to have a vested interest in not only the story, but each of them.
Blood Lines is a great addition to the British Crime with an American Twist series. This fast-paced thriller is definitely a page turner. From the Youth Crimes Team’s personal conflicts to trying to solve the latest crime which involves organized crime, this book keeps us on our toes. The characters are getting better with every novel. Way to go Elleby Harper.
WOW!!! I’ve read all of the Bex Wynter books and have enjoyed them tremendously but Elleby Harper outdid herself this time. Not only did she provide a great mystery but she opened up an entirely new concept of these books by delving into the personal lives of her staff. There are so many ways to go and all I wanted to do was start on the next book in the series. I’m not the greatest fan of British mystery but the “American Twist” makes it perfect. Another important aspect of Elleby Harper’s writing is her ability to mesh all her books together. You can follow each book and still get the gist of previous books without spoilers. As they say in England, “good show”.
A son of a mobster is in custody to testify against his families criminal activities. A detective assigned to the team just for this case. Remy is also related to one of the crime members family, unknown by the police department. Is she there to help or hurt the case? A twist or turn toward the end. A great novel.
