Ava is sick of mundane angel duties, and she wants a promotion to finally earn her wings. A promotion takes more than hard work; it takes a miracle—literally. Unfortunately, her miracle’s impossible, because it involves a vampire.Fin has no time for frivolous gestures. He’s too busy avoiding his own kind to care what a naïve angel wants. But when the other vampires uncover his deepest … secret, threatening what he cherishes most, nothing can help him…except a miracle. Too bad he chased the angel away.

Blood & Holy Water: Angels of Sojourn, Book One – I couldn’t put this book down without a fight. Another well written, well thought out story concerning an unusual vampire (I like what was done with this character) and a wingless angel. Enemies with the same goal, but different results gained, work together to solve the deaths of potential angels and murdered vampires, and the ties between the two groups. The characters are realistic and both have morals and ethics. The angel goes a little gray, but there’s so much involved in her decisions in trying to help the humans and potential angels. There’s intrigue and suspense, and the book moves at a fast pace. There’s sexual tension, but no sex – thank goodness this author treats angels as angels not sex starved humans without morals – and very infrequent vulgar language. 5*
Broken & Burnt (Wings & Wonder: Angels & Magic Book 3):
Joynell Schultz – I had to read all the Angels of Sojourn books that I had. Although there are three other contributors to this boxed set, I didn’t have the time to read them (all new authors to me – my apologies to them). Ms. Schultz just has a way about her: her writing style; her realistic characters; her understated sexual tension between characters; and her infrequent use of vulgar language. This is a well written story complete with a well though out plot and believable dialog that moves at a fast pace. I appreciate that while the angels once were human, they don’t behave as humans; sex, vulgar language and all the other stupidity. Her angels behave as angels, even the “tainted” or fallen angels are good, they’re just in a gray area. Their mistakes were actually to help someone in need or pain. There is plenty of suspense and intrigue in this short story. 5*
Magical Connections – A collection of novellas, short and spin-off stories. They were well edited with interesting characters and suspense and intrigue, and touches of romance. Even the stories that were part of a series, could be read without knowing any other book from that series. There are no cliffhangers or continuations to another book for the rest of the story, while I certainly enjoyed. I’m looking forward to reading more of Ms. Schultz. 4*
Fangs & Fairy Dust – I enjoy Ms. Schultz’s stories, which I discovered in Hexes and Ohs, and was happy to find this collection. This is a well written and believable novella introducing the Angels of Sojourn series, of which Blood & Holy Water is the first book. The main characters, a male vampire and a female human and her mother, are interesting and believable, along with action and dialog. It is fast paced and contains vivid descriptions making everything easy to visualize. Fortunately, it is not a cliffhanger. 4*
The Mail-Order Bride – I read this little story in Hexes and Ohs, my first by her. It’s a new twist on a witch’s tale, which makes for a cute and intriguing romance. Entertaining and enjoyable. 4*
Hidden – A lovely, heartwarming novella about discovery, love and kindness, and loneliness. Searching for her baby’s father leads a pregnant fairy to new adventures and learning experiences, and a vast change to her life, while she shares her godmother skills without her magic. There’s plenty of humor and danger included in this sweet story. 5*
The Enchanted Apothecary – A sweet, romantic, little story where while grieving for her mother, she has suspicions of a male customer and his use of dark magic, and how she confronts him. There’s a good balance of suspense, intrigue and romance. The ending brings a big smile when the truth is told. This story is similar to the romantic stories of the superhero wives world. 4*
One Possible Future – I read this short in the Angels & Magic: Bonus Collection. An interesting, well written, quickly read story between a psychic and a fallen angel and the possible futures awaiting them. The next story is available in the Wings & Wonder boxed set. 4*
Bitten – A sad but heartwarming short story of a mother’s love for her small son bitten by a werewolf. The lengths she went to keep him safe. This is a spinoff from the Angels of Sojourn Series. 4*
Magical Connections end.
Blood & Holy Water sucked me in from the very first line! This is not your typical vampire-meets-angel-angel-tries-to-save-vampire story. Nope. This is a story about profound loss, sacrifice, redemption, and above all — love. As funny as it is sad, as violent as it is heartfelt, Joynell Schultz’s novel is a must read for all urban fantasy lovers!
I am currently reading this. Its not the angel type book I was thinking however it is a good read this far.
