Holy shiznet!!! This story is gr8. I felt bad for Mia. She was socially awkward but highly intelligent female. Her father was just as awkward as she was, but he was a genius and knew it. In his freaky way he loved her. But he kept a lot of secrets which could kill them both. Now Talon is one hot, sexy vampire& the clash because she’s a nerd. I truly enjoyed this story. I recommend this read. 5 Thumbs up
Our heroine, Mia, a bio-engineer and daughter to famed bio-engineer, Walter, finds herself in a dangerous situation when a mysterious patient is brought to her father’s home laboratory. If you read Blood Bond, you could deduce that the mystery patient is our Hero, Talon, who suffered injuries during a battle at the end of the last book. However, his injuries are actually a reaction to a serum he injected himself with to enable his vampire self to move around in broad daylight. Walter refuses to tell Mia about Talon’s treatment or any of the other secret projects he’s working on, but she must try to solve some of these mysteries before someone kills her for Walter’s work.
Because her dad sheltered her from the outside world, she’s a bit awkward when interacting with other people, and she has a bit of a sassy attitude when people question her intelligence. Without revealing spoilers, Mia accidentally becomes a vampire who Talon has been tasked to “train”. This story takes a bit of a humorous route because Talon tries to keep his distance from her because of his growing feelings, and she’s like a young child wanting to test her new abilities as a vampire, all while they try to figure out who’s after the serum formula.
I really enjoyed both Talon and Mia, but their chemistry was a bit off, and though we saw glimpses of the previous couples from the first two books, they didn’t really integrate the story lines as much as I would have liked. Usually in a series, I would expect there to be an underlying story line that each couple would be uncovering, but I’m not really seeing that in this series, unless it comes together in the next book?
Mia and Talons story start with a bang. They meet under circumstances that have sealed their fate. Mia a scientist and yet sheltered. Her father is so smart but clueless to life outside of his brain, this carries over to Mia. Talon is a vampire that needs her help but she has to forgive him for what he has does. Their chemistry is off the charts. Third book in the series and worth reading. You can read as a stand alone but knowing the other books makes it much better. “I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.”
While this is not my favorite book of the series, I did enjoy it very much. The plot is good and I liked the characters. I did feel the connection between Mira and Talon was slightly lacking and that’s probably why this book got a 4 star rating from me instead of 5. There’s action, danger, and romance in this well-written story. I can’t wait for the next book.
I am voluntarily reviewing an advance reader copy of this book.
BLOOD CURE is the third instalment in Melody Raven’s contemporary, adult NEW BREED paranormal, post-apocalyptic romance series focusing on a new breed of vampire/alien known as the Vopura. This is twenty-six year old, microbiologist Mia Bleeker, and vampire Talon’s story line. BLOOD CURE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.
Told from dual third person perspectives (Mia and Talon) BLOOD CURE follows in the wake of an injured man brought to Mia’s father’s lab, a man who was so much more than he appeared to be. Having no idea about her father’s research, our heroine will quickly learn that her father had been experimenting for a very long time. With the Volpura demanding her father’s research information, Mia finds herself on the run with a vampire who wants nothing to do with our story line heroine, a vampire who volunteered to be part of her father’s research. What ensues is the back and forth, building relationship between Mia and Talon, and the potential fall out as more than one faction of the paranormal world is desperate to find the research information.
Mia Bleeker always thought she knew about her father’s research but having her eyes opened by a vampire meant her world was about to change. Having lived most of her life sheltered from the realities of the world, Mia is quickly thrust into a lifestyle she knows nothing about. Talon claims he wants nothing to do with Mia but his attraction to Mia is immediate and intense. Protecting our heroine gets harder as she continues to place herself in precarious situations but Mia is desperate for revenge for everything she lost. Mia is a little bit manic-she is constantly chirping at the people around her including our story line hero.
The relationship between Mia and Talon begins acrimoniously but Mia has no idea what is about to happen or why. Talon struggles with his attraction to Mia but the heart wants something the mind cannot comprehend. The $ex scenes are intimate and intense, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
The secondary and supporting characters include Mia’s father Walter, and her friend Amanda, Vopura Dante, vampires, Nicholas, and Stefan; as well as an assortment of witches, demons and more Vopura.
BLOOD CURE is a story of betrayal and vengeance; secrets and lies; family, friendship and hope. The action packed premise is energetic and revealing; the romance is steamy and hot; the characters are colorful, sassy and strong.
Lots of action!
This can be read as a standalone. I read the first book in the series. I’m not sure how I missed book 2, but I don’t feel like I missed anything important when reading this book. By that I mean a reader could pick up this book to start, and go back to read books one and two with no problem.
When Talon was first brought in to the basement, I got the sense he was more middle aged. I don’t really know why. As the book moved forward, it seemed like he was described in a more youthful fashion.
Mia was extremely intelligent, but after the situation at her house, she was way out of her league through most of the book.
Talon and Mia had a pinch of chemistry. Their attraction felt like it skimmed the surface. I understand they were doing the whole vampire, serum thing, but I would have enjoyed more time spent on them building their relationship. I guess it is hard to do that in a Vampire/Volpura/Human apocalypse.
A quick read with a lot of action and a hint of steaminess.
I voluntarily read and reviewed the Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
This story definitely began with a screaming start. And it continued with really good action, action throughout.
Mia and Talon couldn’t be more different if they tried but sure made for interesting main characters. Mia was a scientist to the bone but what other chances had she had. She was super smart raised by a genius but clueless father. Also meaning that she had minimal social contact with others. And not just because of her background but because she has been in a lifelong fight to just survive.
If you like a story with plenty of surprises (which I do) you’ll love this book.
I do have to mention that there is some steamy language and some steamy sex scenes but they don’t overtake the story. Something that I am thankful for.
I just have to mention how stunning this eBook cover is. I really liked that too.

Full of action!
This is another book in the New Breed Series, this time featuring the vampire Talon and the human scientist Mia.
After being kind of thrown together due to weird circumstances, they are forced to learn how to work together and help each other.
Everything is new to Mia and Talon is not exactly a willing teacher at first.
But they live so many things together in a short time, and their chemistry speaks so loud, that is hard to deny some feelings.
I think some things went unanswered and their feelings took some sharp turns that I wasn’t expecting, but it was a cool book.
A Geek & A Vampire Walk Into A Bar ….. 3.5 Stars
I absolutely loved Talon in New Breed #2. He was a bit crazy, wise cracking & a total bad@ss that threw himself headfirst into everything I know he went through a lot because of the daylight serum he rashly injected, but he was almost unrecognizable in this book His past obviously has left him with some issues too but they seemed to be touched on briefly then completely forgotten, why!?!?
Mia was as amusing as heck as a newbie She was so utterly clueless in the most basic of ways plus everything else she needed to learn, bless her Her intelligence is never in question, thankfully
I was left wondering why she wasn’t being taught self defence etc, as she’s vital in the race to make a serum. Also why wasn’t Talon’s team working with him on such an important case? Nicholas is extremely smart, he wouldn’t leave her so vulnerable or this task so understaffed!! These questions really bothered me.
I just feel like a great opportunity was missed to see Talon & his Nocturne team mates in action again, interacting with each other & the crazy scientist!! That left me a little sad & disappointed, especially with how brilliant the previous books are, I’m greedy I guess!!
All of that being said the dynamic between Mia & Talon is cute, amusing then scorching hot. Each couple in this series is just perfect for each other, no matter how they start out The storyline is complex and I can see it eventually hooking into another series, which is brilliant This is a clver, clever series!!
