A murder without a body. A murderer without a memory. A night without answers. January 16, 1999: a magical night for a group of high school seniors in Panama City, Florida. They listened to Maya Angelou read poetry. They danced. They celebrated life. By the time they noticed their friend Angel Diaz was missing, it was too late — she was never seen again. Her boyfriend, convicted of her murder, … convicted of her murder, has sat in prison for 18 years. Their friends have never looked at each other the same way; each sure one of the others killed Angel.
Detective John Jordan, mired in his own crises, is asked to solve the mystery of what happened that night. Can he uncover the truth that has remained hidden for so long? Can he retrace the steps in a closed case and get to the bottom of a Blood Betrayal?

A well written book with interesting characters and a clever plot that both tells a story and educates about the criminal/legal system, especially with respect to wrongly convicted individuals. Some may be bored by the background as to how innocent individuals get convicted but I find it fascinating. Eyewitnesses are notoriously unreliable, convicts surprisingly often are not what they seem and, of course, personal biases are the enemy of truth.
John Jordan is a prison chaplain and a police investigator who is overworked and is looking to cut back but cannot say no to looking into an 18 year old case where the person was found guilty of murdering his girl friend.
Is he innocent or not? His family, friends and ever the murdered girls friends say no but he c0nfessed and the evidence points to his guilt. If is not guilty, who committed the murder and why?
The ending was a little contrived but it was a clever way to solve the case in an interesting and satisfying manner. Kind of a Perry Mason ending for those old enough to remember who Perry Mason is.
An enjoyable book that I would gladly recommend.
It was an entertaining read.
Simple read predictable. Not worth it
Like the John Jordan Character and stories
Great Read!
A really good book.
I loved the characters in this book. It was an easy read and I didn’t want to put it down. It was a surprising ending and kept my interest until the end.
I read 25% of this book and never developed an interest in the characters or the plot.
Michael Lister never fails to disappoint in the John Jordan series!
The series is thoughtful
Super good book. Guessing game the whole way through!
Love all his books
I could not get into either of his books. To me this book has too much religious content.
Very good story but the title itself gives away the killer.
It still was a very good read.
The series has hooked me but the endings often disappoint.
This guy knows how to write great books..
A quick read with OK plot twist ending. My first Lister book. Found it a bit too pat, overly simplistic and one-dimensional. Not well developed and ultimately not believable. My two cents anyway. For avid crime or mystery readers a la Michael Connelly, Patricia Crowell or Robert B Parker, this is bound to a bit lacking but not terrible.
