If you’re a human in a vampire’s world, nothing goes according to plan. When a map to the mysterious fortune of notorious privateer Miguel EnrÃquez falls in the lap of Ben and Tenzin, only one of them is jumping at the opportunity. Tenzin can’t wait to search for a secret cache of gold. Ben, on the other hand, couldn’t be less excited. All Ben knows about Puerto Rico is what he hears on the news … hears on the news and a few lingering memories of his human grandmother. Going back to his roots holds zero appeal for the carefully constructed man he’s become.
In the end, the lure of hidden gold can’t be denied.
Ben and Tenzin head to Puerto Rico where the immortal world is ruled by Los Tres, a trio of powerful vampires commanding the wind, the waves, and the mountains that make up this small island in the Caribbean.
To find EnrÃquez’s treasure, they’ll have to walk a fine line between flattery and secrecy. To leave the island might mean a bigger fight than either one of them foresaw.
Blood Apprentice is the second novel in the Elemental Legacy, a paranormal mystery series by Elizabeth Hunter, author of the Irin Chronicles.

Treasure Hunting & Complications
Nothing unusual when your partner is Tenzin. I was totally blown away by this book, and I am constantly amazed and in awe of the imagination of Elizabeth Hunter.
This second book in the Elemental Legacy was action packed, had plenty of Tenzin logic, and great humor. There is also plenty of tension, feelings coming to the forefront, and an unexpected event. So well written, you can feel all the emotions coming off the page.
I highly recommend this second book, but then I would recommend any of Elizabeth Hunter books. This world she has weaved and let’s us ride along , is epic. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book, and how things develop between our two intrepid treasure hunters
This book is the many shades of Tenzin book. Awkward dialog Tenzin? Check. Badass warrior Tenzin? Check. Pretending to think one thing but hiding her true intentions Tenzin? Check. Check. But what will be most shocking is a Tenzin we as readers rarely get to see, one I won’t divulge for fear of spoilers. The reader will also appreciate the emotional journey Ben goes through in this book, as will anyone who’s had to learn to pull the flowers from weed patch and come to terms with the thorns of the past and the dangers of the future.
Also, can you say favorite characters from past books coming in to play? You’re going to love it when you see who.
In the end, this much is clear: when I grow up to be a real author, I want to be just like Elizabeth Hunter. How does she keep doing this? She writes mysteries that, beyond vampires and elemental powers, capture a human truth brought into perfect focus not despite the paranormal elements but because of them.
Five stars all the way.
Here I am again with characters that I have come to consider more than just fictional, they are friends that I get to check in with and go on adventures with. The characters continue to grow in complexity emotionally making them stand out as more than just one dimensional. The situation fits the type of work they would become involved in. The story is clear, concise, and on point to keep the characters moving forward into their lives.
Benjamin Vecchio is a human who has grown up in the vampire world and has come to realize that nothing, no matter how well planned, ever goes as expected. Ben and his partner Tenzin, a very old and powerful vampire, come into possession of a map leading to the fortune of Miguel Enriquez, a privateer. But only one of them wants to undertake the task of going after it.
Ben is less than excited at the thought of returning to Puerto Rico, a place he barely remembers but that is home to what remains of his family. But as Tenzin knew he would, he changes his mind and is ready for the adventure and challenge of the hunt. And as expected going into the territory of other vampires they need an introduction and permission to search. Los Tres, the vampires in control of Puerto Rico are very powerful. To get and keep the treasure they are going to have to walk a fine line of flattery and secrecy.
This gave me some serious tension between the characters that I have been waiting for almost since they first met. These stories have a light erotic feel but nothing overt. This is about Ben and Tenzin realizing who they are to each other, and both are fighting it in different ways. To make this even better Giovanni makes an appearance and helps out, the only thing to make it better would have been if Bea was with him.
I used my audiobook to keep things going when I could not sit and read and the narrator was very good bringing them all to life. My only complaint about the narration is that Gio sounded like he was from Transylvania some of the time instead of from Italy.
However, you look at it this is a great entry to the Elemental series and will be enjoyed by anyone.
Ben & Tenzin travel for another treasure hunt. We learn more about Ben’s tumultuous upbringing and a relationship that I hope continues to bloom moves one more step forward before cold feet makes one of the partners run. Love these two and want more!!! The narrator did a great job!
Elizabeth Hunter’s latest addition in the Elemental Legacy Novels does not disappoint. Continuing with Ben and Tenzin’s story, their latest treasure hunt takes them to Puerto Rico where Ben has to deal with the trio of vampires who control the island, but also his own past. The continuing “will-they-won’t they” question that teases the relationship between human and vampire is pushed a little closer to the edge when an accident underground (not the best place for an Air vampire) has unfortunate consequences. Filled with characters already introduced in her previous Legacy and Elemental novels, this is another keeper.
Excellent second book.
Ben and Tenzin embark on a search for lost treasure and end up in Puerto Rico. We learn through the occasional flash back, a bit more about Ben’s background. There’s more vampire politics, lots of intrigue, and the relationship between Ben and Tenzin is really hotting up! And Gio appears.
I love the relationship between Ben and Tenzin, but the sexual tension has to play out in the next book, because it would be too unrealistic to keep stringing it along.
Can’t wait to see where they end up next.
Ben and Tenzin are on another great adventure…Ben is what 25 now? He makes a trip of a lifetime to find more than gold he rediscovers his family. Tenzin is still wonderfully old, odd and childlike at the same time. Looking into the possible future for this duo….I’m still not on board with a romantic spin for them yet or ever actually but this is a romance series. I am hoping to not become grossed out by a 5000 year old vampire making it with a 25 year old man child. Why is this a taboo ? I don’t know. Male vampires seem to be perverse enough to be 100% fine with robbing the literal cradle. So here is where we need to see a lot more of what is inside of Tenzin’s head. Otherwise she still seems very disconnected with the world of today even though she is trying to appear more human for Ben’s sake…but is that enough, is that ever going to be enough? Ben has repeatedly said he does not what to become a vampire. I KNOW deep down Tenzin will never allow him to have what he wants and will somehow have him made into a vampire. What are your feelings about the possible romantic link for them in the future? Read the book tell me what you think.
L9ve the elemental series.
I was given the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book and it was amazing!! I love Ben and Tenzin and have been waiting impatiently for this book. It was everything I hoped it would be and more.
This is one of those books you just don’t want to end . It is full of so many emotions and we get to learn alot about Ben’s early life and about his family and about his Puerto Rican roots.
Then there is Ben and Tenzin’s treasure hunt. You never know what’s going to happen with them when they are on one of their adventures. And this is no exception .. the trip to Puerto Rico is full of so many conflicting emotions that it keeps you hanging on waiting to find out what is going to happen.
You definitely will want to read this one.. it may very well be one of my all time favorites books.
Excellent read, thoroughly recommend this entire series
There are no words that can adequately communicate what the experience of reading this book is like. And it is an experience- emotionally, spiritually and physically. It has a spectacular OMG moment that everyone has been anticipating, but still hits you right between the eyes and will leave you with your mouth agape for quite some time. I don’t know if it will be as powerful an experience if you haven’t followed the whole series, but that’s an excellent reason to backtrack and binge read now. Every book in the spectacular world that this author has created is a gem, and I’ve said it before and it bears repeating, every syllable written is carefully chosen to communicate the exact emotion, image, sound or texture she wishes to reader to feel, see, hear or touch. As a reader you owe it to yourself to have her as one of your go-to authors. Highly recommended without any reservations.
I was really lucky to be able to read this book early for my honest review.
Blood Apprentice started out with the best
of Tenzin and Ben and their banter. It just gets better and funnier.
In this instalment Ben goes back to his roots in Puerto Rico. We get to look back at his childhood before Gio found him, he has a great deal of guilt, and my heart broke for him and the what ifs he faces.
Of course there was also a treasure hunt which had Tenzin excited , well because gold right. They come across more vampire drama and well vampire politics.
You see a shift with the inner dialogue with these pair as feelings get more ramped up and denials get firmer.
The ending in this book will have you thinking what the hell. It’s a cliffhanger for sure.It gave me all the gut churning and heart ache I could handle for a while.
Elizabeth has given us a great second book to what is undoubtedly an epic series.
Couldn’t wait to start this one! Have to say it didn’t disappoint.
Ben & Tenzin – the tension, the banter, the arguments, the frustration, the unspoken. These two always seem to grab me and jerk me into their world and before I know the adventure has ended…for now!
Love getting more glimpses into Ben’s childhood. His struggles. How everything he has gone through has formed him into the man he is & has become – Good, Bad, Gio, & parents.
This journey takes us on a trip to search for pirate treasure a, from NYC to the beautiful island of Puerto Rico. For Ben, it was a trip into what might have been as well as realizing what how much he loves what he has. And yes, as always there is drama in the Vampire world and in the business of “recovering” artifacts!
Can’t even begin to explain how I feel about the growing relationship between him and Tenzin – I was close to tears near the end…I was really thrown by the end (definitely, gave me knots in my stomach) – but no “spoilers” from me.
Loved it – can’t believe it’s over. So when’s the next book? So here’s me, anxiously awaiting more and the next adventure.
This book was everything I needed it to be, because who doesn’t love a mysterious treasure on a tropical island!! I fully admit that Tenzin is one of my favorite characters that Elizabeth has created. She has such a wonderful depth of experience and mystery surrounding her, a beautiful childlike way of living in the world and just a dash of crazy to keep the readers constantly guessing on what she will do next. And Ben is the perfect counterpoint to her character!
The story was creative and original with all the wonderful insight and background into Ben’s background and mind. I really enjoy learning more of what motivates and influences him apart from his vampire family.
The chemistry and tension that Elizabeth creates between Ben and Tenzin in this book was incredible!! I cannot wait to read the next chapter in their journey.
This book is simply marvelous! Blood Apprentice, the second novel in Hunter’s Elemental Legacy series, follows Ben and Tenzin into the jungles of Puerto Rico, searching for pirate treasure and evading complicated vampire politics.
As Hunter is known to do, she masterfully creates picturesque landscapes and weaves her tale through a beautifully crafted backdrop. Hunter’s use of characters to drive the story is exceptional. She has mastered the fine art of subterfuge and misdirection, creating a sense of mystery and causing the reader to question truth from reality. Even when readers are tucked safely in the mind of a character, their thoughts are corrupted with half-truths and denial.
Complex story telling abounds. Blood Apprentice does not disappoint. And, I can’t wait for the next installment.
I can’t say enough about how much I love the Elemental Legacy series! Elizabeth Hunter is a master world builder. At the end of each book you feel like you are saying goodbye to old friends who you can’t wait to see again. this is one of the few autors who whe I finish one of her books I flip back to page one and immediate start over again.
