Journalist Michael Wilde — his world recently shattered by tragedy — has come to the South Pole looking for solace and a new lease on life. But what he finds on a routine dive in the polar sea is something else entirely: the bodies of a young man and a young woman, bound with chains and sealed forever in a block of ice. Beside them is an ancient chest filled with a sinister cargo. Wilde’s search … search to unravel the mystery of this doomed couple will lead from the battlefields of the Crimean War to the unexplored depths of the Antarctic Ocean, where an age-old curse survives to this day. And as the ice around the lovers begins to melt, Wilde will witness what may be a miracle — or a nightmare — in the making. What is dead, it turns out, is not always gone.

The best book from Robert Masello, haunting and a real page turner.
Unusual concept, entertaining. Somewhat disappointed in the ending as it wasn’t
actually ended. Not a great deal of room for serializing unless you amend the premise for causing death.
Good character development; good location descriptions.
Stone Cold
Masterful intertwining of Past and Present/Current Story and Back-Story. From the gripping beginning, the story never let go, til the equally gripping (if slightly “squishy”) ending. How in the HECK are they gonna make that work?
! Liked Eleanor, but… Almost wished for a humane ending (@ long last) for her… and a possibility of …
It was a very different story. Kept my interest but I didn’t like the way it ended.
Great story, superb narration, engaging storyline. Timeline switches from present to pass inviting the reader to travel the road taken by primary characters.
Unpredictable and very much a page turner
Excellent book, I could not put it down.
A well-written book, and highly entertaining. I couldn’t put it down.
I started this book 2 yrs ago but I just couldn’t finish it. I kept waiting for something (I don’t know what) but I just didn’t get it. Maybe I’ll try to finish it and re-do this review.
This book was a waste of time..granted it had some interesting parts in it, and at first I thought it was going to be a really good book, but it dragged on and the ending was “you have got to be kidding me” sorry one star for this book.
The story was one that I found very sad and unsettling. I very much like vampire stories and all the action-packed scenes that go with them, but this story was just somehow unbelievable to me. It doesn’t fit the norm I guess you would say.
Book was really good up until the last 2 chapters, then it went south and awful ending
Characters weren’t likeable and plot line not compelling enough to keep me interested..
Didn’t finish. Too much blah blah blah, not enough plot grabbing.
