I love the premise of this book and I feel the storyline is amazing and I loved the characters. However, I have a few small issues that prevent me from giving it any more stars. In my opinion whilst reading it I felt dis-attached from the storyline. Sometimes I had to read a passage a few times in order to understand what is going on. The writing to me feels older than what the intended audience is. I am not saying it is a bad book, far from it. I really enjoyed reading it. I do however feel as if it needs tightening up a little.
I would however still be interested in reading what else this author has written.
BLIND THE EYES is the first entry in the THREADS OF DREAMS series. The story follows a female protagonist named Cole as she interacts with bizarre, Lovecraftian beings blending dreams and reality. The plot is a bit tough to follow at times, and this is an outside-the-box story.
So…how is a book with a tough to decipher plot 4 stars?
K.A. writes like sugar!
She has this way of describing things that overwhelms your senses. I frequently found myself lost for a few pages only for K.A. to drop another morsel of sugar and suck me back in. She keeps using these short, direct, highly descriptive sentences to communicate a stunning tapestry of words.
Here are a few excerpts that I liked:
“The air is sharp, icy, clear. Like my mind.”
-Love this. Puts you in cold air and gives you a sense of a hyper-focused character…with 9 words!
“A tangle of pipes and cables clutter the ceiling.”
-Another 9 word’er that puts you in a basement of a building and sets the tone/setting economically
Here is a longer excerpt:
“IMPACT. THE FORCE of my fall wrenches my limbs.
And yet.
I’m a mass of bruises and scrapes, a collection of pain, but I am.”
-This is a great example of K.A. using her shortened sentences to great effect. You get a fall. You get pain. You get the feeling of being alive…with 25 words!
There are hundreds of these well-crafted descriptions and moments. I am intrigued to continue reading the series and see if the plot comes into focus more. I think K.A.’s writing style with a more fleshed-out plot could be something for the ages. Call me intrigued and ready for more!
Blind the Eyes (Threads of Dreams #1) my first read from author K.A. Wiggins, an author I’d not heard of before receiving this book. This seems like my week for new authors as this is already the third new author this week & it’s only Tuesday. 318-pages, but reads longer due to the book’s uniqueness, the detail written in it, and the patience it took to slow down my reading speed and wade through it. At first look, it seems like a typical dystopian fantasy. I was gifted a free copy and I’m voluntarily reviewing it because every good books need reviews. I look forward to more from this author. Up next is Black the Tides (Threads of Dreams #2). (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).
A unique concept wrapped in a complicated telling that weaves through a dystopian adventure of unseen danger and mystery.
Blind the Eyes: YA Fantasy with an Edge (Threads of Dreams Book 1) by K.A. Wiggins is an awesome story to read. This is book number one in this awesome start to a brand new series that I have loved reading very much and can not wait to read the rest of this awesome series. I highly recommend this awesome story to everyone who loves reading about YA fantasy.
I read a complimentary Advanced Reader Copy of this book & am voluntarily leaving an honest and unbiased review.
“I don’t hate my job. Hate is dangerous. Hate is a wish for change. A wish is a dream that can draw down the Mara.”
I have not had the pleasure of reading K.A. Wiggins before and this was a nice introduction. There was a lot of intense and vivid imagery that built up this dystopian world of Vancouver. I enjoyed the obvious amounts of effort that went into the details that made it so realistic and stand out on its own amongst a sea of young adult dystopian novels.
There was also a lot of time put into the characters that support this world that has been built. Some are more apparent and strong throughout the novel than others, but I can see where there will be more of the less poignant ones will have future rolls in the upcoming books in the series.
Cole is such a sweet soul. She truly believes in doing everything she can to protect herself by following the rules regardless of whatever dreams may come to her. She is well balanced with the character of her ghost, Cadence. Cadence provides the much needed comedic relief and is the voice of reason for Cole.
Then we meet Ravel. He is literally the prince of this story with a fairy like quality to him as well. It is a complicated description and confusing at first what his role is but eventually it all makes sense. I loved the way he dreamed, daydreamed, and thought in color. This is a very colorless world that is depressing and dark. It has its purpose in the storyline but the vivid imagery that he describes thinking is beautiful and so breathes a life into the storyline.
“Regulation 3: Distraction is destruction. I must not allow myself to be distracted, nor be a distraction to others. It’s why everything here’s the same shade of grey: the paint, the carpet, even us. It’s the reason for these shapeless, hooded uniforms and masks. It’s even why we have to work every day, instead of letting the computers do it all for us. Distractions leads to dreaming. Dreaming draws the Mara. The Mara would destroy us all-if the Towers of Refuge didn’t protect us.”
I definitely didn’t see where some of this was going. It was hard to get going and hooked for the first six chapters or so. However, when this picked up it was addicting. I was lost in this world and had to see what would become for these characters. Overall I really enjoyed this book and was glad that I let the cover reel me in. Definitely a wonderful rainy day read to devour. I am looking forward to getting my hands on the next novel.
Blind the Eyes is the first book in the Threads of Dreams series. It ends in a cliffhanger, so be prepared.
I have to say that this book is challenging to rate. On one hand, there were parts of it that were hard to follow and I had to re-read some of those a couple of times to keep up…which is highly unusual for me. And, unless you read the synopsis of the book, you don’t really know if the lead character is male or female for the first little bit of the story. I am not sure if that was intended or not.
On the other hand, the premise of the story is excellent. It has been awhile since I read a book with this intricate of a plot. The characters are interesting, some of them being mysterious enough to keep you wondering. I gave it four stars for the plot and character development, because the amount of imagination that went into this is worth it.
Blind the Eyes by K.A. Wiggins is the first book in the Treads of Dreams series. I really enjoy reading books that are unique and think outside of the box. In my opinion this book fit that description. It was a dark YA fantasy like no other. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series!
Blind the Eyes is the first book in the Threads of Dreams series by K.A. Wiggins. This is my first novel by this author.
In a world where everything and everyone is the same shade of grey, Cole is worker who is trying to get past probation so she can become a real worker. With events occur that make her drawn her to world where dreams and nightmares collide.
While I am not a big sci-fi or dystopian reader, the plot of this caught my attention. The first few chapters were a little hard to get through and understand cause of the world building but once I did, it was a interesting that was out of my usual genre.
I am looking forward to seeing where this series goes.

Blind the Eyes is a YA / Dystopian Fantasy and the first book in the Threads of Dreams series by K.A Wiggins. This is the first book I have read by this author and I have to say I was totally enchanted with the unusual storyline. This book is something different from what I usually read, and it held my attention from the very first page. The characters are varied and the world building is amazing. The writing style is kind of poetical and it really was very easy to follow what K.A. is trying to portray throughout the book. I enjoyed Cole’s story and would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a great fantasy book.
Blind the Eyes by K.A. Wiggins is the first book in the Threads of Dreams series. This is a YA fantasy novel. I had not read a book by this author before but glad that I have. The book drew me into a different world where I wanted to follow the story. The main characters Cole and Mara are pretty interesting and helped to draw me into the story. One is a girl who is finding her strength and her half dead ghost. There are adventures, challenges, and more. The story draws references to Poe and other writers of the past. I look forward to reading more in this series and introducing girls to the story.
Blind the Eyes by K.A. Wiggins is a YA dystopian novel. This is the first novel in the series and there is a lot of world building that takes place. Which can make it a bit slow at first but it’s interesting enough to keep you reading. This story follows Cole, a young woman with a past that she has tried desperately tried to forget. Unfortunately secrets have a way of always finding their way out and when hers comes out she will have to make a choice that will affect her for the rest of her life. This was an interesting take in the dystopian theme and I found the plot to be interesting from start to finish. The storyline is well written and paced nicely. Once I really got into the story I couldn’t put it down. I’m excited to see where this author takes readers next. A solid four star rating and I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
Blind The Eyes by K.A. Wiggins is the first book in the Threads of Dreams series. A great combination of YA and sci-fi this book is a must if you are a fan of either genre
Cole knows her place. She knows she has to keep her head down and follow the rules otherwise she will find herself dead. However things go slightly awry when she comes into contact with a rebel.
Cole soon discovers that the authorities aren’t all they are made out to be and that more is going on then people realise. It is up to her to figure out what it true and what isn’t in order to stop what is happening.
I really enjoyed this book – much more than I expected. The storyline grabbed me right away. It pulled me into the story and I found it easy to become engaged with what was happening. The characters were well written and perfect for the story the author was trying to tell. I am excited to see what the next book has to offer.
The first book of the series Threads of Dreams, Blind the Eyes, is written by K.A. Wiggins. This teen/young adult novel is a challenging read, not difficult, but unique and creatively alluring to your mind and imagination. It’s not often you read a story that stands apart from previous books that have been read, Blind the Eyes accomplishes this – something different, but in a good way. This debut work by the author is a commendable piece and as the author grows, I anticipate to see further development, flow and depth in future works. A brilliant plot line that I look forward to seeing where the author takes this within the series.
Blind the Eyes (Threads of Dreams #1) by K.A. Wiggins was a unique, twist dystopian that had me hooked from start to finish.
I love finding books that are out of the box rare, and different. Right from the opening I was drawn in by the weird grey world and dark tones. There was a lifelessness to it that sparked my attention and pulled me in. Cole, our MC, does a fantastic job at setting the stage for one of the best reads of the year.
I’m a little stuck and what to write, the plot is complex and I don’t wan to give anything away. At the same time I want to gush about everything, spill all the secrets and shock you with the ending. There is a lot going on in this book, it has its own strange yet captivation writing stay that just traps you. You can’t help but read, when you stop, the story is the back of your mind, and you feel a need to get back into that world, like if you’re not reading the characters are stuck and calling for you.
Now I must warn you, the way the info is giving in this book isn’t straight forward, there is a lot of reading between the lines, and if you’re not the type that likes cryptic story telling, then you might find this book a little odd and confusing. This book needs to be read with a opened mind and a openness to let yourself experience non-main-stream writing.
Overall I highly recommend this book, it’s a diamond in the rough, a hidden gem that has taken a risk with it’s uncommon writing style and elaborate plot, to not only expand the world of writing, but has demonstrated that it’s okay to step outside the norm, and be extraordinary different.
Happy Reading

Blind the Eyes is the first book in the Threads of Dreams Series by K.A Wiggins. This is a wonderfully imaginative and original YA fantasy. It has paranormal elements, as well as post-apocalyptic touches, and a distinct dystopian feel. There is humour, drama and a touch of darkness to the story- which added an extra layer of interest. The author has a definite poetic/lyrical to her writing which gave the story a bit more of an impact on the reader. There were a lot of characters and the story has a lot happening in it. The book is intricately detailed, descriptive and quite complex. Ms. Wiggins continues to weave her world throughout the story. But, because of all these factors, there were some parts that did feel a little busy, or somewhat rushed.
I was intrigued by this adventure and thought this was a great introduction to Ms. Wiggins work, and a creative way to start a new series. I would read the next book/s, to see where the author takes us.
Thank you, Ms. Wiggins!

First of I have to say I absolutely love the cover for this book! There is just something about it that drew me to it straight away. I know you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover but I couldn’t help myself with this one! This is the first book that I have read by this author and I will admit it’s not my usual genre but I thought I would give it a read. I cannot fault the writing, the way in which the author wrote this book was just beautiful. Her words flowed seamlessly and that made it easy to read. I did find myself a little confused with the storyline at times despite that wonderful writing so whilst the authors writing flowed well the storyline wasn’t quite as seamless.
I did like the characters and their uniqueness; I will say that about the storyline too it’s unlike anything I have read before.
I believe this is the author’s debut novel and she should be proud of the book and characters she has created. I will definitely be looking for more of her work in the near future and look forward to seeing how she develops as an author! This is definitely a good 4 star read!

The story Blind the Eyes (Threads of Dreams Book 1) by K.A. Wiggins is a YA/fantasy book. It is the first book I have read by the author and I enjoyed it. It has a storyline that hooks you in from the start and I didn’t want to put it down until I had read the last page. The book is well-written and has parts where I was quickly turning pages to find out what happened next. I enjoyed reading about the character of Cole. The world that she lives in is one where everyone is expected to follow the rules. Will Cole continue to submit to the regulations or will she rebel? There are also many other characters that you are introduced to and that I enjoyed reading about how they work with Cole. This story has action and times when the characters are in danger. You will be rooting for Cole and the others to overcome the odds and survive. This is a story unlike any I have read in the past. The world described is unique. This is the first book in a series and I am looking forward to reading the next one in order to read what happens next.
Blind the Eyes by K.A. Wiggins an young adult Dystopian Story. K. A. Wiggins does an amazing job of tell the story where you can actually believe everything that is happening is real. Her illustration is remarkable. For me, I could envision where the story was and how it was evolving in the book. The characters were complex and able to fall into their struggles as you were yourself dealing with everything you are reading. This story has everything that you would want in a fantasy story. There are twists and turns and you are blindsided

I started this book in the evening and realized not too far in that that was a mistake so I put it down and decided to read it the next morning. I just knew if I kept going I would not be able to sleep, Im not normally prone to nightmares but this one worried me so I didn’t take the chance.
This is my first book by this author and I would like to read more from her but not so sure about this particular genre and that is purely a personal feeling. The writing in this story was amazing, I did have to read a few things more than once so I could get the intended meaning of the sentence or paragraph but when I did reread I was totally impressed with the words chosen.
I can honestly say I’ve never read anything like this story so it was kind of interesting to experience something so different and I would highly recommend it.
