Lucille Pfiffer sees, but not with her eyes. She lives with her beloved dog Vanilla (“Nilla” for short) in a cozy neighborhood that is quite “active” due to what occurred in the distant past. Though legally blind, she plays an integral role in helping to solve pressing and puzzling mysteries, one right after the other, which, without her, might remain unsolved. The question is: How can she do any … she do any of that with such a handicap?

This is an original cozy mystery about Lucille Pfiffer sees, but not with her eyes she has what she calls her inner sight. She lives with her beloved dog Vanilla (“Nilla” for short) and has many friends in the neighborhood celebrating what would be her and her dead husband’s Donnie’s 50th wedding anniversary. Though legally blind, she plays an integral role in helping to solve pressing and puzzling mysteries, one right after the other, which, without her, might remain unsolved.
More than a murder mystery this is a book about good vs evil, right vs wrong, overcoming fears, and about relationships. All kinds of relationships.
An unusual sort of heroine and special talent. There are ghosts but it is yet to be seen how they will play into this series.
“Blind Sight” is the 1st book I’ve ever read by this author, but it won’t be my last! In fact I’ve just started the 2nd book in this fun, must read, ‘Lucille Pfiffer’ cozy mystery series, with a bit of magic! … Our heroine, Lucille is a quirky, senior, widow with a lovable little dog named ‘Nilla’ (that’s short for vanilla) along with her best friend Merlene, who is your typical sidekick in a cozy mystery, and she just happens to have a grown adult son, who decides to rent a room at Lucille’s small boarding house shortly before the chaos begins.
This is an easy, unique plot with quirky, entertaining characters & others you’ll want to shake some sense into them 😮 lol … My only thing is I felt like the story was rushed a bit, and would have liked more background and more of a build-up before the victim dies. But I couldn’t guess who the villain was until shortly before being unveiled & arrested 😉
Overall, it was an enjoyable book & I highly recommend this to fans of fiction and look forward to more by Ms. Taylor!
Blind Sight is a fun cozy mystery.
Lucille is a feisty elderly lady, who solves a murder with the help of her dog Nilla, and a ghost she “sees” now and then, despite being blind. But her inner vision is working just fine…
Blind Sight by Tanya R Taylor is a fun, cozy mystery. Not having read anything by this author, I wasn’t sure what to expect but I’ll be sure to read more of Ms Pfiffer’s antics. Having the ghost of a founding father of the town where Lucille resides adds a fun aspect to the story, also adds a little mystery for Lucille…why is he appearing to her? What does he want? There often are quirky characters in a cozy mystery and this book does not disappoint. And Lucille, widowed several years now, has some interesting characteristics, the first being her ‘inner vision’ that she has trouble reminding herself not to reveal to others. I love that she is my age too–people can chalk some of her quirks up to “old age”. A cute, quick-to-read story, one that lovers of cozy mysteries with a little murder and mayhem will enjoy. I won a copy of the book in a contest and was not required to write a review. The opinions are my own.
“You’re a brave woman Miss Lucille” David sighed.”I doubt I’d be able to face what you’ve had to – any of it.”
This book, the first in a series, sets the scene, gives some of the backstory and introduces us yo Lucille Pfiffer, widow, who lives in a small village with her dog (Va)Nilla and neighbors she has known forever. Having developed a form of aggressive blindness, she sees things almost better than those who are sighted, she is very good at problem solving in more ways than one.
When her best friend’s son’s girlfriend dies from a fall at Lucille’s, it’s all she can do to figure out who did it and clear David’s name.
Lucille is an enduring character and I will enjoy more about her from Author Tanya R Taylor. Highly recommended.5
A clever idea–a blind woman who has times when she can “see”.
With her dog to help, she manages to solve neighborhood mysteries.
Enjoyable and relate-able characters with a good mystery.
An unusual premise for a blind lady, Lucille, has paranormal insight of crimes. With the help of her dog, are they the next cup in clearing up crimes? Well written, neat plotting and great characters, all attributes of a gifted author. Her cozy mysteries are fun reads!
Blind Sight by Tanya R. Taylor is a wonderful mystery story that will keep you reading well into the night. Lucille is blind, but she sometimes can “see” and she also “sees” ghosts! Yes, this cozy mystery has a murder. Yes, Lucille is the female sleuth who tries to solve the murder. Yes, there is a policeman in the story. BUT Lucille is BLIND, and old. She does not have a cat – she has a dog named Vanilla. Ghosts, a dog and a blind sleuth – what a combination.
I loved this book. It was not was I expected – it was better. You have to read it for yourself. I know you will enjoy reading it. The plot and characters are well developed. I received an advance copy of this book and I always review every book that I read. I highly recommend this on.
I just loved this first book in Tanya R. Taylor’s exciting new Lucille Pfiffer Mystery Series! It’s unique in many ways. First of all, it’s written in first person from Lucille’s view point, which really draws you into the story and immediately connects you with the heroine. Then the main character Lucille is unusual herself in so many ways too. She’s not only physically blind, but she is sixty-eight years old, which encourages all of us who have reached that age or more or those who will one day be that age! The agile Lucille achieves much more than most “seeing” persons.
The theme is set right at the beginning of the book where Lucille is travelling on a bus with her cherished pet Nilla. I immediately warmed to Lucille and Nilla. I was eagerly awaiting an explanation about how Lucille could sometimes “see” though! What Lucille and Nilla are capable of is quickly apparent and then we are taken to their destination, which turns to be a pet society that Lucille has just joined. She introduces herself in a speech to the group of members and I was still waiting to hear how she can sometimes “see”. It still wasn’t revealed, so we are kept in suspense! Later we meet Lucille’s long time friend Merlene and at last we are told how.
Merlene’s son David wants to be independent from his mother and becomes one of Lucille’s boarders along with two other gentlemen, albeit temporarily. Lucille decides to have a party celebrating what would have been her and her late beloved husband Donnie’s 50th wedding anniversary. Many people attend including Sabrina, David’s not so nice girlfriend. There are a couple of upsets at the party and later Sabrina is found dead, presumed murdered. The police are brought in to solve the case, but it is Lucille herself, along with Nilla’s help who solves it!
“Blind Sight” is a delightful, intriguing and easy read, definitely deserving of 5 Stars. I look forward to reading many of Lucille and Nilla’s adventures in future books!
A fun crime mystery!
Lucille Pfiffer became blind several years before her beloved husband’s death, but the night Don died she found that she could see the ghost of Sir Clement and several other spirits, as well as everything around her – not physically, but with her mind’s eye. Merlene, her best friend, knows about Lucille’s “sight” and helps her hide it from people in the community out of fear that it could affect Lucille’s disability checks even though she cannot physically see.
Now Lucille only has her beloved Shit Tzu Vanilla “Nilla” as her family so for extra income and company, she has rented out the bedrooms of her home to Theodore and Anthony and has become an adopted “mother” to them. Lucille and Merlene are surprised when David, Merlene’s son, shows up to rent the third bedroom and declares that he needs to take a break from his mother’s hostile attitude toward his girlfriend Sabrina. When Sabrina is found dead in Lucille’s back yard David becomes a prime suspect and this time when Sir Clement appears Lucille is sure that he wants her to solve the murder.
This was a fun read. I liked the interactions between Lucille and Merlene; often frenemies but always supportive. The story has a little death, some mystery and plot twists, and help from Nilla in solving the case. This promises to be a fun series!
I really enjoyed this first book in this new series. Lucille Pfiffer Is a blind woman who can occasionally see things in her mind. She is a widow and rents two rooms to men she refers to as her boys. When her best friends son needs a break from his overhearing mom he rents a room. During a celebration of what would have been her and her husband’s 50th anniversary her friends son David and his girlfriend have an argument and she is subsequently murdered. David is the prime suspect but Lucille has know the man all his life so she investigates to clear his name.
This book had it all mystery, drama, an original plot and plenty of drama! It’s was very sweet how her young tenants look after her and show respect which is so lacking these days. I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the series although I admit I am a little behind. I highly recommend this book and this author!
An Engaging Murder Mystery with a Surprise Twist
It has been a while since I read a great story by this author. Therefore, when I started to read this cozy mystery, I was not disappointed. It’s an amazing, well-written narrative with terrific dialogue and colorful settings. The backdrop is Chadsworth, a small community, where neighbors are not what they appear to be. In the beginning, we get an introduction to relatable, authentic, memorable, and some eloquent characters, despite their quirky behaviors. Protagonist Lucille Pfiffer is a blind senior citizen who uses her internal vision, Nilla, her Shih Tzu dog, and Sir Clement Tucker, a spirit, for assistance. Lucille is independent, broadminded, takes no guff from anyone, can be witty at times, and speaks her mind, which at times can raise eyebrows. Marlene, her best friend, can be an unbearable mother when it comes to her adult son, David. The story exposes pretense, snobbery, infidelity, a sneaky police inquiry, and political influence rising to the surface, leading to an ending that will leave you reeling and wanting to read the next outcome.
I have read several of this author’s books and LOVE her writing style. So when she announced that she was writing a cozy mystery – one with ‘sight’ – I BEGGED to read a beta copy of it. My favorite genre is mystery. I read lots of cozy mysteries too. Great start to a new series.
NOTE: I DO RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!
I really like the story premise, it had my curiosity jumping. I am just a bit confused regarding Lucy’s ‘sight’. I understand that she can now see ghosts, but if I read the book correctly, she also has periods where her actual vision changes and that is why she is concerned about her checks. If I am wrong let me know.
I love learning new words and cultures. I get that the author is from a different background than mine. I had trouble with some of the different culture or slang in the book, especially finding definitions. Even now I tried again to look up one up and still could not find it . Before you get on me: I did specify urban dictionary in my search this time but still had trouble.
Now remember that I read a beta copy! I know that a word that was in my copy has been changed by the author (based on feedback). That instance, a couple others (author knows about), and the difficulty of finding definitions for the words I did not know have made me reserve judgement for 5 stars. I am anxiously awaiting the next book to see the growth in the book. ( Hope I get to read another beta copy.)
I want to acknowledge that the author listened to my concerns and did take action see my point of view and make changes where necessary. Remember, mine was a beta copy!!!
So if you have gotten this far in this review REMEMBER: I DO RECOMMEND THE BOOK and I read a BETA copy so yours will have changes that mine did not.
This is my honest and freely given review. I did receive a BETA copy.
