Ben Follows has created a gripping thriller, with the twists expected in the best of the genre. The story is nicely paced, with the suspense kept at a steady rate. The characters are finely drawn, with realistic fallacies and weaknesses of any real person. There are no superheroes in this book, which makes this novel much more of an enjoyable read.
Overall a good read, somewhat predictable at times.
Thoroughly enjoyed Blind River, couldn’t stop reading, very unpredictable. Will be reading more from this author.
Frankie and Curtis are FBI agents assigned to a small town where 4 girls are missing. Curtis grew up there and doesn’t have gond memories. The town was overrun by Marino and his mob and Curtis was the young man that helped put him away. The prison looms over this town both literally and figuratively. How do you trust when parts of the town were as guilty as Marino? And how do you go back to the town where your father used to be the Chief and your sister is a cop there?
Four missing girls, a reporter out for blood and few clues. It is a thriller and you’ll keep turning the pages but it is disjointed, not enough clues, too many sub plots including the ex-wife, the dad, and not enough on the victims.
The bloodshed becomes magnified, the cops versus cops versus the FBI intereferes with the case. I felt the character of Frankie was one to really develope and I couldn’t relate to Curtis at all. The ending is a shocker but just depressing overall…..author needs a good editor to tighten up the plots from many to one solid plot.
Characters could have been developed more completely.
Enjoyed story – different
kept me guessing!
Very good
Reminded me of Mystic River
A good read.
Very good book that grips you at the beginning.
Alas, this book is neither original, not well-written. But I finished it anyway.
I was a bit bored by this read, but I read it through. The writing was OK and the story engaging, but I didn’t feel like I could grasp the characters feelings throughout the book. Too many “here is the situation” without the “here is how or why this mattered to the character” moments. Sort of felt like getting through the story without any depth.
Very enjoyable. A great style, storyline and read. Kept me engaged to the last page!
Great book, couldn’t put it down, couldn’t wait to see what happened next!
