Lara.I was born into darkness. Just like a puppy, only my darkness is eternal. Everyone else sees a world I can only imagine, but hey, don’t pity me. I don’t. I’ve got a lot of imagination, and I’ve made my world beautiful more beautiful that you can know. When I was a small child, my mother said I used to run into furniture, and if I was not too badly hurt, I’d get back up and continue running … up and continue running down the same path. When I grew older I understood that the world is not built for blind people.
I needed a white cane and I needed to trust my bestie, Elaine, and jump when she yelled, “Puddle”.
Sometimes, just for the fun of it, she’d yell puddle and there would be no puddle, but generally our system worked well.
Now, I’m all grown up and she tells me that the most mysterious man in Durango Falls has stuck a job vacancy on her noticeboard and that I should apply for it.
Apparently Kit Carson needs a blind reader.
To be honest it sounds a bit like those times she yelled puddle and there was no puddle. But what the hell? I’ll give her a laugh and jump once again.
This is the story of what happened when I jumped.
Kit.
I came to Durango Falls because it was the perfect place to hide.
The townsfolk here don’t like strangers and I don’t like people. So I don’t talk to no one and no one talks to me. Suits me just fine.
For five years now I’ve been livin’ alone at the edge of this forest. Just me and the wolves I’ve adopted, but this winter my soul has started hankering for something more.
I know it’s sure as hell ain’t for the warmth of a woman’s body. I’m done with that. The military made me into a fuckin’ monster and I wouldn’t put any woman through that. Not even a whore. She’d have to be blindfolded to enjoy herself.
Maybe I’m just hankering for a woman’s sweet voice reading to me the way my mother used to when I was five. Just before she died. Think I’ll advertise for a blind reader. A female blind reader.
That’s what I thought I wanted.
Well all that shit went out the window when I laid eyes on her.
Now this woman’s body is all I can think about …more
Another fantastic read!!
I really enjoyed this book. It was an original take and a great storyline, with insta love, steam, action and angst. All of these things make for a great mix. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because it just had some areas where the wording and transitions where awkward. But overall a great story and characters. Kit stole my heart in the end with the gift he gave to Lara.
This was a kindle unlimited recommendation, and it was a good one. There was a lot more action and adventure in this one than I anticipated. Its way more of a page turner than you would guess from a help wanted romance!
Beautiful, haunting, so worth the read. Georgia Le Carre does not disappoint. This book is wonderful. I loved it.
“Blind Reader Wanted” by Georgia Le Carre is such a great read!!! I enjoyed the characters as well as the story. It was refreshing to get some new character types – thanks!
Can wait to get my hands on some of her other books now 🙂

3.5 stars
This was a solid read by one of my favorite authors, and I liked it a lot, but I didn’t love it. I was a little blindsided by the plot twist with our Hero. I kind of felt like I was reading a story about two completely different Kit Carsons. Maybe that’s what she was going for, but after being introduced to the second Kit, I felt like the story was a little rushed.
The characters were great, the story was so interesting and the wolves were a nice touch. The bad guy definitely got what he was due, but that part of the story line could have been fleshed out a bit more. And when our heroine finds out the truth of what happened to him, her reaction was a bit underwhelming, I’m not sure I would have taken it that well.
Use your other senses
I think is one of my favorite books by this author! The brooding, alpha male Kit is someone most of us can relate to. He’s been through harder times than most, and he might have closed himself off, but he is still living his life. And Lara is the sweet innocent woman who finds the joy in everything and sees the world in a way that reawakens her man. The author infused this fantastic love story with action and danger, and support characters that really brought the story to life. This book is a frequent reread and I am looking forward to reading the next book by this author.
I read this via ku and am leaving my review voluntarily. Quick read. Some sexy time.
Triggers: attempted murder, murder, killing of an animal
**spoilers**
I thought this was a decent read. A sort of Beauty and the Beast but no debt to be paid and instead of a rose there were wolves.
Lara, pretty blind girl. Optimistic about life. Artistic. Kit, scarred, military spec ops. Lives alone.
These two get together, initially so she can read to him but they grow close quickly. Living in a small town full of narrow minded people is tough on them both.
Some drama from her ex but eventually a HEA.
I’m confused and kind of at a loss with this one.
First of all, the beginning is GREAT. I was able to overlook the fact that the hero advertising for a blind reader is more than a little odd. I figured there was a good reason for it, and that he wasn’t a deranged serial killer who liked to keep blind girls in a pit in his basement before wearing their heads around like hats or something. (Good news: the hero wasn’t a serial killer. Bad news: there wasn’t really any good reason for the man to hire a blind female reader. He was both literate and sighted, so…yeah. No clue.) Once I overlooked that, the first half of the story was super intriguing, and I was SURE this was going to be a 5-star read. But somewhere around the halfway point, things got…weird.
But before I get into the weirdness, let me tell you what I loved about the beginning of the story:
1. Kit is a grumpy recluse. Y’all know I love me some grumpy recluse heroes.
Kit is also a scarred war vet and Lara is blind, and y’all know I love me some deliciously imperfect heroes and heroines.
2. Kit rescues wolves. What’s not to love about a guy who rescues animals?
3. Lara is a GREAT heroine. She’s smart and fearless and her blindness isn’t an impediment to her daily life in any way. The fact that she’s blind doesn’t create any drama or angst in the story. Her blindness is just a part of who she is, and I loved that. She never feels sorry for herself, or laments her condition. She’s inspiring, frankly.
Now, up until this point, I was totally digging this story about a grumpy, scarred, PTSD-having war vet falling for the strong, brave, young blind woman who brings sunshine and happiness until his empty, dark little world. But then…
1. There’s a sex scene where the hero and heroine talk about their, um, private parts as if they are extra people in the room. I’m not even kidding. The heroine actually asks the hero, “Is he angry?” In case I wasn’t clear, she was asking the hero if HIS PENIS WAS ANGRY.
2. And while I’m on the topic of the hero’s penis, it was, of course, so huge that the heroine asks him if it’s “going to fit.” Sigh. Can’t we have normal penises in romance land? Why is it that so many romance heroes have giant porn star penises? (This might be the most times I’ve ever used the word “penis” in a review, by the way. That’s probably not something I should be proud of.)
3. There’s a very cliched stalkery bad guy that pops up OUT OF NOWHERE to cause drama for no good reason. Why? He’s not necessary. And even if he was necessary, why is he such a damn cliche?
4. At this point, we find out that Kit has a secret identity. So, my grumpy recluse isn’t exactly a grumpy recluse after all. Sigh. That was the part of the story I was most in love with, and now it’s ruined! And it turns out that the secret identity was the worst possible thing for Lara, and Kit knew that and was a big fat liar about it. Bummer. Now my grumpy recluse is a lying liar who lies. I hate lying liars who lie.
5. The bad guy gets his comeuppance in a really appropriate-yet-brutal way. I find it SUPER unbelievable that sweet little Lara would be as calm about it as she was.
6. Spoiler alert that animal lovers will thank me for: One of the wolves dies. In my opinion, there is NO REASON for animals to die in books, especially ROMANCE books. (Off topic, for all my fellow animal lovers out there, check out this website called Does The Dog Die that will tell you if any animals are harmed in any movie or TV show you can think of. It’s FABULOUS, and frankly I’m a little angry that I didn’t think of this idea first)
So, long-story-short, I feel betrayed by the beginning of this book. I was happily reading along, loving every minute of the story, and then BAM! Weirdness and stupidity jumps out of my Kindle and smacks me in the face. It was like being bitch-slapped by a dead, stinking fish and I didn’t appreciate it one bit. In the end, I’m giving this book one star for Lara (I really did like her) and one star for the first 50% of the book. The rest was a dumpster fire that wasn’t worth even a half star.
And with that, I’m done. So, so done.
