Jake Denney has hit rock bottom. His wife has left him. He’s drinking again. And his five-year-old daughter is in the middle of it all. When a judge calls him “a disgrace to the legal profession,” Jake starts thinking things might be better for everyone if he wasn’t around anymore.
Then a childhood friend’s mother phones him. Her son, Howie, has been accused of murdering his wife. Jake takes the … Jake takes the seemingly hopeless case in a last-ditch effort to save his client and his fading career.
Meanwhile, Howie’s little sister, Lindsay, has grown into a beautiful woman. Though Jake is drawn to her, there’s something about her he doesn’t understand, even though it may be the very thing he needs to reclaim his humanity.
With the evidence mounting against his client, and a web of corruption closing around them both, Jake Denney faces the fight of his life–not only in the courtroom, but in the depths of his own soul.

I love the authors other books also.
I like anything by this author….clean language , good storyline
I liked it, but put it down a couple of times, then picked it back up. Took a while to get into it. Interesting ending.
Slow moving – didn’t keep my attention
Built great tension and the courtroom scenes very realistic. Characters you wanted to hate but had empathy for. Kept me guessing as to who really did the killing and did not have a clue when killer and motive were revealed. This book showed just how much the occult can affect our world and that we need to be on guard. I highly recommend this book!
I loved how real it was, while opening up a tough subject to the reader. It was written in such a way that that the twist and turns kept you wondering.
This is the story of a man going far from what he knew was right, and finding a way to be a better person. I read this author any time I discover one of his books I haven’t read.
I thought the jury just COULD NOT find him guilty – but it did! All was not lost for the defendant or his attorney. What a great story.
Love this book!!! It kept me guessing and intrigued through the whole book. He’s a great writer,
I really enjoyed the author’s style, the story line, and the characters. Great read.

Realistic to life. An imperfect t hero who came through for others. I like Scott Bell’s writing. Would like to read more of his work.
This is a “hard to put down” book. Loved the author. Move over John Grisham. It is a legal thriller.
