On the surface, Rachel Stevens’s life looks perfect. One great job, two awesome roommates, and a supportive family. But when her roommate Hannah announces her engagement, Rachel sees eternal singleness and innumerable cats in her future. When the bride-to-be issues a challenge–go on six blind dates and before the “I do’s” –Rachel isn’t convinced her imagined future is that bad in comparison. The … comparison. The dates are predictably horrible and the situation further complicated by the return of James, Rachel’s first, long-lost love. James says he is over her . . . but is Rachel over him?

Blind Dates, Bridesmaids, and Other Disasters by Aspen Hadley is an excellent contemporary romance. I had SO much fun reading this one. I was engaged in this story so much that the pages flew by. The characters are outstanding. The camaraderie and deep friendship between Rachel, Val, and Hannah is beautifully illustrated. I love how they are there for each other no matter what, and they don’t shy away from being open and honest too.
James is my new favorite hero. He is definitely handsome and intelligent, but what I loved the most is his strength, patience, and quietude. James is a man who knows when to be present and speak his mind, and when to be absent and give a little space. And, his love for Rachel is perfect. It’s true, it’s real, and it’s super sweet. James really is the best kind of hero!
While I adore pretty much everything about Blind Dates, Bridesmaids, and Other Disasters, I have to say that the blind dates are the best part of this story. I laughed out loud so heartily that I may have cried a little. The blind dates are so awful and awkward and mind-blowing they’re unforgettable. I shook my head so many times and wanted to hug poor Rachel. What a hilariously rough go at finding love!
Blind Dates, Bridesmaids, and Other Disasters is a contemporary romance I highly recommend. It’s well written, vastly engrossing, and so, so sweet. This is a story that I won’t soon forget.
I purchased a copy of this novel in eBook form from Amazon.com on December 16, 2019, in order to review. In no way has this influenced my review. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.
I loved this book! I laughed out loud so many times, and cringed at the fact that some people really have dates like she described. The roommates friendship was great and I loved their interactions.
A mistake and its consequences play a major part in this story. The wacky ways the problem gets solved is funny, warm, and entertaining with great characters trying to help out. Good quotations at the beginning of each chapter about love add to the theme.
Blind Dates, Bridesmaids and Other Disasters by Aspen Hadley is so fun!
The dates are sooo funny and even better that they are based on real stories! I kept getting so excited when she’d go on another date. I can’t imagine going thru those! The friendship of the 3 roommates is so sweet. Rachel is such an amazing friend and puts everyone else’s comfort above her own. The cat lady references make me laugh and I hope one day she gets her 2 cats! Hannah’s wedding planning takes over the roommates lives but it’s so sweet and humorous to see the different personalities of the friends. Val’s criteria for Rachel’s date is “nice, not stupid and single” . The love story is cute and enjoyable.
I love a good clean romantic comedy and Aspen Hadley delivered with this hilarious novel. Something I found particularly interesting was that the bad dates in this book were based off of real blind date stories the author collected. Some were so crazy, I laughed, and then felt truly bad for the person who experienced the date and for fictional Rachel.
This is a second chance romance which I love this trope and watching characters reconnect. The characters were all entertaining and overall, the mood of the book was uplifting and fun.
I definitely recommend this to fans of clean rom-coms and can’t wait to read more by the author.
This was a fun read and had me laughing. The dates were hilarious. The h & H and romance were written realistically. This was a 2nd chance romance and the story was well thought out written well. I know it’s a romance with a HEA but nothing was on the nose and had me turning the pages to see what was next. I’ve read two books from this author and I believe she can be added to the auto buy list. The book had good dialogue, nice story arc and great characters.
