WhitneyI don’t face things head-on. I’m a procrastinator. I know my faults, and that’s a big one. Which is why I’m not going to marry Daniel. Nope, I’m headed back to the Texas Hill country. I’ve already leased my own veterinarian clinic.Except when I stopped by the ER to see my grandpa (he’s a doctor), I didn’t expect to see my old crush, Riley Buchannan, who’s still sexy as ever and still makes … ever and still makes my heart beat just a little faster than normal.
Or that he would insist I stitch his leg because he has to get back to his ranch. His mare is about to drop her first foal. Is it my fault he didn’t ask what kind of doctor I am? I would’ve gladly told him I’m the new veterinarian.
Riley
Whitney’s home and all grown up. I guess I should’ve asked what kind of doctor she was before I insisted she stitch up my leg. She sort of owes me, but every time I ask her out, she turns me down.
Until her ex-fiance and her mother show up.
When she hires me to be her pretend boyfriend for the weekend, how can I say no? It’s kind of cute, her thinking I need the money.
But will my paid services extend to the bedroom?
I might not get the chance to find out when I underestimate Daniel. He’s full of all kinds of surprises, and none of them good.

I’ve been waiting for this new book. Karen Kelley is spot on with her southern humor—bless her heart!
1. Book 1: Bless Your Heart: 5 stars
I received a free copy of the novel Bless Your Heart: It’s a Southern Thang book 1 by Karen Kelley and this review was given freely.
A romance with a touch of steam where the woman must choose between the lesser of two evils but soon realizes she chose the perfect deal. This is a well- balanced second chance at love story with a girl, her grandfather, the guy who rejected her in high school, a scorned superficial ex-boyfriend, a cute puppy, and two love triangles all combined with a little irony and sarcastic realism. Sassy veterinarian Whitney moves back home to live by her Doctor Grandfather where an unexpected chain of events results in her sewing up a wound for her high school crush, the egotistical Riley, and Whitney completing the difficult birth of one of his horses. Instant attraction intensifies as coincidence leads to a lot of meetings filled with sarcastic teasing, foreplay and Whitney’s repeated refusals until her condescending and self-centered ex Daniel shows up.
Whitney and Riley are a slow burn story. The writing is exceptional, the characters all have depth, meaning, great backstories and are interesting to the overall book.

Whitney was a procrastinator and because of this she had a hard time telling Daniel the man her parents picked out or her they were through. She hated hurting his feelings but they weren’t a good match so when she called it off, she packed up and headed back to be with her grandfather and take over as the new veterinarian. Her parents did not take this so they packed Daniel off to her along with her mother to change her mind. Riley never knew what hit him right there in the ER he fell head over hills for Whitney so when she asked him to pretend to be her boyfriend and she would pay him, he jumped at the chance but he was keeping a secret. Will it backfire and blow up in his face?

Love this!
What a fun book- I fell in love with Riley right along with Whitney and Ms. Kelley did a great job resolving the Daniel issue.
