The day Loey Grace Keene and her best friends condemned a man to death was the day she knew she’d never leave Righteous, Tennessee. Running her grandparents’ coffee shop and old farm distracts her from the sins of her past. ’Course, that’s until she discovers the town’s preacher impaled in the cemetery’s oldest tree. There ain’t never been a storm in Righteous like there was the day Jeronimo James … Jeronimo James blew into town. He might be Blackmore Baptist’s new preacher, but Loey’s instincts warn her to stay away from his black eyes, cowboy swagger, and motorcycle. His arrival on the heels of a murder, plus his odd questions about salted graves and hallowed ground, lands him smack dab at the top of her suspect list.
Loey’s search for the killer uncovers the magic beneath Righteous’s ancient superstitions and a family secret that further binds her to the town. For centuries, the Keenes have kept Righteous’s threads knotted together, but something sinister is tattering the Seam.
Unless Loey can catch the otherworldly killer and embrace her calling as a Keene, the Seam between Righteous and a pocket world will be ripped forever, unleashing a hungry, vengeful creature onto the God-fearing folk of Righteous.
The Righteous Series is the twisted sweet tea of Southern paranormal suspense. Delve into a world of mysticism, where the lies run as thick as the accents and the superstitions are born of real and powerful mountain magic.

I love this book and can’t wait to read Dale’s story next. Loey and many of her one-liners cracked me up. How she held her tongue and smiled, when she really wanted to punch someone in the face? Her inner dialogue when dealing with the “old bitties” killed me.
And Jeronimo! Love him. At first, he set off my creeper vibe, but as the truth of why he was in Righteous was revealed, he instantly grew on me.
Loey, bless her heart, no pun intended, had it rough. And when tragedy continued to strike around her, she learned a lot of hard truths, about herself and her family.
I don’t want to give away spoilers, so I’ll leave you with a quote or two from the book: “The dead are talking. Are you listening?”
And one more, because it’s funny. “I miss the days when I thought you were a serial killer. Those were good times.”
Highly recommended this book if you enjoy Southern humor, paranormal suspense, murder, intrigue, and a small town where secrets and lies run deeper than the grave.
If you love a creepy southern paranormal suspense, it is right up your alley. I finished it in the middle of the night, and then had to play a light and fluffy audiobook so I could actually sleep. C R E E P Y and oh, so good.
Great paranormal treat!
Bless her Dead Heart by Men Collett is a book I couldn’t help but to read with a southern drawl. Great paranormal adventure about a very small conservative town where you know everyone. But there is something else going on in this town too! Very awesome!
It stopped too soon
Loved the back story on Jeronimo. Kinda spooky. In a good way. Loey a bit more silly acting than I thought she would be for the circumstances.
couldn’t put the book down
This was fun and the title is exceptional. Thanks for the good read!
Loved the whole series…great writing!
Fun read.
Sweet old Tennessee town, where everyone knows everyone, you go to church every Sunday and not because you HAVE to, but because you really want to. Where the town has one sheriff and everyone is nice to everyone else. Sounds like the absolute perfect place, right, like Mayberry. WRONG. Everyone has secrets, it’s normal. But these secrets are anything but normal. This is more of a who murdered who town and you ask with a sincere smile on your face, while chatting over sweet tea and blueberry scones. It’s a town where secrets are hidden behind a smile, a glance and an “Awww, bless your heart.” Righteous, TN has so many secrets, many more than people. And then there’s Jeronimo James, new guy in town. That makes for good gossip right there, but when he’s invited to take over for the preacher who just had a terrible, horrible “accident” during the latest 100 year storm, that’s definitely noteworthy. And what are his secrets?? Jeronimo’s secrets will shock you, but are they really that bad when you compare them to Dale’s, Travis’s, Cross’s and Loey’s?? EVERYONE has secrets. They pretty much go hand in hand with being a polite Southerner.
This is a wonderful book. It is full of surprises and unusual happenings! I love the characters. The plot is exciting and forever changing. There isn’t a dull moment. I am very impressed with the writing of this author. I find the paranormal suspense incredible. I have to read more of her books for sure. I will be following this author from now on!!
Mysterious magic and power run deep in Righteous, and only after Loey Grace Keene witnessed the death of their beloved pastor and a new stranger came snooping in their town learned about the secrets and truths that Righteous was hiding. A murder mystery to solve, unknown dark creatures lurking the town and an ensemble of remarkably interesting characters abound this newest series from Meg Collett.
I don’t know how I was able to endure two nights of chillingly suspense story, I was really afraid to sleep because of the shadows or tattered lights that I might be seeing when I open my eyes. I swore to myself to stop reading when the clock struck midnight, but there was something about Jeronimo James and Loey Grace that kept me up all night. Something sinister yet still captivating and alluring at the same time. One thing was for sure though… The haunting visions of Jeronimo’s real identity and the eerie people of Righteous sure got me all wired up and now I couldn’t wait until I get to read the next book in the series. Bless Her Dead Heart is a stirringly creepy read and I am loving it!!
This is southern superstitions at it’s finest!
Bless Her Dead Heart is a paranormal suspense about coffee shop owner, Loey, and the people that make up the small town she lives in, Righteous, Tennessee. The town is similar to other small towns however it holds huge secrets most of it’s resident’s are not aware of. A tall, interesting stranger shows up and turns Loey’s life as she knows it upside down.
This book is engaging and enthralling; filled with flawed, easy to relate to characters, a twisty plot, and an interesting slant on the good versus evil fight. I loved this book and found it difficult to put down. Bless Her Dead Heart is an awesome start to this series. I look forward to reading more about Loey.
What I love about this author is you never quite know what’s coming when you read her books. This isn’t a pretty or happy story in fact in a round about way it’s about atonement and truth. After one more traumatic event in this young ladies life after all her dreams and wishes have gone astray now we learn the facts of how she got here. With flashbacks we get it all along with the happenings in the present. Thrown into a battle she has no idea how to win we get to see her in action and meet Jeronimo. This story includes some real dark stuff along with the paranormal and it’s blended so well the seams between reality and paranormal interlace with supreme skill, this author tell us a story of deaths, abuse, rape, lies, guilt and deception and the resulting damage. It’s so well done that you find yourself falling into the rabbit hole and hoping for something to change, for it not to be happening. This isn’t a romance, or sweet story. The truth will come out. When it does, all the towns people and good church goers will say at once Bless Her heart, just like the good southerners they are.
I liked it but wished the plot was a little less twisted. It did hold a few surprises. Definitely written from a teen standpoint.
This was my first time reading a book by this author. I definitely judged a book by its cover, because I mean isn’t it just gorgeous.
It took me a few chapters to get into this story, I think it was the characters names, and getting them confused as to who they were.
But while reading more and getting more into this story I felt the need to think woah this is good, I’m intrigued. The story line, the way the author would go back to the past and then the present…. it was interesting to say the least. I do feel connected to the characters in a sense that I want to find out what happens next.
So FYI yes there is a part 2. This story does end in some what of a cliffy.
