Yea! No yucky sex scenes.
Didn’t finish it. Yawn.
Loved this book! Wonderful characters and plot. Stayed up way past my bedtime reading this one! Also loved that it is a clean historical mystery romance. Hope to see more from this author!
easy to read and entertaining book with interesting characters
Far and away better than I imagined it would be. Lovely way to pass a few hours on a cold and rainy winter day or on the beach. (Winter for me.) The characters, for the most part were likeable and the intrigue was deeper and broader making it more interesting than a lot of these types of stories which are more about the fabrics the dresses are made out of. Wardrobe changes were for a very specific reason throughout the tale and not just the author showing off that he/she knows some of the history of the period. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
I loved this book. Even though I thought I could predict certain scenarios, they often surprised me. Every character was relatable and likable. I even found myself feeling sorry for some of the more unsavory characters. It had just the right amount of mystery, intrigue, history, and romance that I love and it’s hard to find a book that checks all the boxes like this one does. This book is one of the few that I will reread and in my opinion, very well written.
I enjoyed the book, especially the twist…
Very enjoyable read. Will be reading more from this author.
Loved the mystery, I enjoyed the story within the romance. Very clever book.
I loved that this romantic story had some unusual twists and turns. If you love a good romance, I think you will enjoy this one.
Although I like my regency romance with a little more adult relations, I found myself liking this book very much. It had a nice love story, but a good mystery that kept you hanging for most of the book. Will gladly read more by this author.
This was the most discombobulated book. Neither the characters nor the plot was well-developed. The author used big words in ways that did not fit the story. Editing was very poor. Don’t recommend this book.
Sometimes what we think is real is not true at all. This book is well worth taking the time to sit down and read. Will things work out? What could cause a man to suddenly turn into a stranger that she cannot figure out. Things are not what they seem. Read the book and find out why things were going “bump in the night”.
This was a combination of a love story and a Gothic thriller. Of murder, mystery and mayhem. Spooky in parts. Although I figured out the answer to the mystery earlier in the story I enjoyed the events leading up to the hows and whys to prove I was on the right track. And some of it threw me some curves. The author gives good descriptions throughout so I felt like I was right there with the main characters, Isabel and Tresham. This was a very enjoyable read. I gave it five stars.
Started out good but then a twist made it dark and had so many plots one after another.
I liked the story well enough. The heroine was a bit TSTL meeting an unknown person at midnight in the chapel AND going to the ruined castle at night. I was quite put off when she needed “closure”. Head smack! In a historical??? And cranberry scones just didn’t exist. Raisins or sultanas were added to scones. Obviously, I’m really bothered by anachronisms.
Great twist in this story.
It kept me guessing as to what was really happening to the characters. I had a hunch about a duel identity but I never guessed who was roaming the dark halls!
This book was a quick read as the action at times moved quickly. A surprise in the second half made the plot suspenseful, and I always love a good mystery to solve. I enjoyed the characters, especially most of Tresham’s family. I have to look for a book of Ms. Shalaby’s about the youngest in the family, Clement, when he comes of age. He is a delight.
My biggest issue was it didn’t get too much into the details. Instead it was aloof and I almost stopped reading. I pushed through but guessed the twists in the middle of the book. So, when the reveal came- it was lacking.
