This review is based on the story and audiobook version. This was an delightful, enjoyable story of a small town firefighter, a reporter, meddling grandmas who also get into trouble (reminiscent of Grandma Mazur in Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series) and a bachelor auction gone awry. Nice storyline and build with good characters. I find the characters engaging and lovable. Narration was good but not great for me. The narrator did a good job in making character voices distinct so it was easy to follow (a big plus). Personally, I had trouble with the voice of the main female character–I just didn’t care for it and it was a little irritating but not enough for me to not listen. Overall, enjoyable diversion and story and I would recommend to others and look at reading/listening to other works by author. I received a copy of the audiobook for free at my request and am leaving this review voluntarily.
I thoroughly enjoyed this sweet romance with a little suspense. It all begins when a reporter for a struggling women’s paper is assigned to interview the man who’s been voted most eligible bachelor just prior to a charity bachelor auction. Meanwhile, our heroine’s grandma and her Seniors Club friends are up to all sorts of meddling and trouble making. The characters are engaging, outspoken and lovable and the story takes enough unexpected twists and turns to keep a reader entertained.
Blazing Trouble was a lot of fun.
I listened to the audio version of this book. This was a very funny contemporary romance that involves a bunch of senior citizens that will keep you in stitches.
The basis is a bachelor auction that kind of goes awry. Not really a fresh concept on the bachelor auction, but the deal made between Kat and Caleb gives it a bit of a new twist. She is supposed to “purchase” him to limit his discomfort of the whole thing in exchange for his willing cooperation in giving her an interview. Hmmm.
My favorite characters were actually their grandmothers. They were a riot!
The narration by Jeannette Smith wouldn’t rank up there with my favorite, but the narration was good.
I was given a complimentary copy of this audiobook. All thoughts are my own.
Great Story & Narration Sweet & Delightful
Blazing Trouble
A Trinity Falls Series, Book 1
By: Jenna St. James
Narrated by: Jeannette Smith
This book is an enjoyable delight, it is my first Jenna St. James and it will not be my last. She is a gifted author, I enjoyed her writing style, the storylines she created are interesting and original, they captivated my attention from start to end. The characters are likable, easy to relate to and connect with. Katherine “Kat” O’Malley moved back to Trinity Falls to be close to her Grandmother Mimi Stiles. Kat is a journalist and works with her friend Candace who is looking to increase readership for her magazine. Coming up with a plan Kat is going to going to cover a charity auction for the the town’s most eligible bachelor, Fireman Caleb Travers. She meets him and they come up with a plan so she gets the inside scoop. I thought these two were great together and for each other though neither one was looking for a relationship. And then there is those meddling seniors, I loved their over the top dramatics and the hilarious, laugh out loud situations they get themselves into. This story is cleverly plotted and there is never a dull moment, with plenty of drama, humor, some heartfelt and emotional moments and a wonderful romance.
I listened to the Audible edition, Jeannette Smith is a fabulous narrator and voice artist. She brings the characters to life, giving each their own distinct voice making it easy to follow along and who is who. She does an awesome job portraying the characters, grasping each persona and playing the role with perfection. She presents the dialogue naturally, nails the humor and lands it with ease. She is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for this great listen
I really enjoyed Blazing Trouble. This book is humorous, romantic and entertaining. I love the characters! They have great chemistry and I enjoyed the witty banter. This book is so fun and will have you laughing at the crazy antics of the characters. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
This book was hilarious! I’m good with romances. I like to read them, mostly at Christmastime. They aren’t my favorite though. So when I tell you that I enjoyed myself so much reading this book and I can’t wait to start the next one…you should believe every word. I love the senior citizen posse in this series. I want to know then in real life. Heck I want to be one of them. They are only old in age and wisdom. They are lively, caring and a bit pushy too. They know what is best and they are determined everyone else should just admit that.
This book tells the story of Kat, (a granddaughter of one of the posse), and Caleb, (a firefighter). They are tossed together when he gets selected the town’s most eligible bachelor and she needs to write an article on him. Of course the posse thinks they belong together. Let the Hijinks begin!
Reading this book kept me highly entertained. It wasn’t just the romance though. There was a lot of different types of love flowing. Love between family members, between friends and even between frenemies. This book has become comfort food for my soul. I highly recommend it.
This was a laugh out loud book with a sweet story!
Katherine O’Malley, the granddaughter of Mimi Stiles, was a journalist who worked for her best friend, Candace and lived with her grandmother in Trinity Falls.
Each year, the town picked a candidate for the Most Eligible Bachelor, who chose a charity, then he was auctioned off to the highest bidder for a date. Candace, trying to stay one top and bring more business to her magazine, Around The House, elects Katherine to interview the bachelor elect.
The eligible bachelor, Caleb Travers, is a fireman and not interested in divulging anything personal to anyone, nor does he want to be tied down to anyone. Caleb doesn’t want the attention that being the city’s bachelor pick will present, so Caleb proposes a deal with Katherine. Katherine is to be seen with Caleb at all the functions, he’ll even provide the fee for her to bid on him in the auction and he’ll grant her an interview.
Katherine and Caleb didn’t count on their grandmothers! Mimi is overjoyed that Katherine is dating, playing up Katherine’s best features and planning a future wedding until she realizes that Caleb’s is the grandson to the spawn of Satan.
Katherine and Caleb go into this agreement with no strings attached, Katherine doesn’t count on becoming jealous of an old flame, and hoping for more with Trinity Falls, Most Eligible Bachelor.
Mimi is quite the character, which I laughed out loud about how she makes anatomically correct knitted dolls for the sex education class she teaches at the senior center and many other shenanigans.
A feel good humorous read!
