At the moment I’m doing a re-read of this series and I’m really enjoying it. But then I came to this book and to my surprise I couldn’t remember anything of this story. I was sure that I had read it in the past but I had no recollection of it! (The only thing that I did remember after re-reading it, was a scene that had to do with Judd, a secondary character.) So I was a bit nervous/curious when I started reading this book, especially because my (book) friends weren’t such a big fan of this story. But I enjoyed it more than I expected, especially because the romance in this story is between a Psy and a Forgotten (their ancestors were Psy once but they decided not to follow the other Psy into silence so they disconnected from the Netmind a few generations back). Because the main characters weren’t Changelings I didn’t expect an emotional story but to my surprise it did have some emotions in it, especially at the end.
We have met Dev Santos before in a previous book (Tally’s story), he’s the director of Shine (an organisation that is trying to help the Forgotten, especially the children who are very vulnerable.) And to protect his people Dev Santos will do anything, even kill if he have to. So when an unconscious Psy woman is left before his door, he knows the chance is very high that it is a trap but he also knows that he wants to help her. And the more the gets to know her, the more he knows that he is right but he also knows that Katya is become very important to him and he will do anything to protect her, even try to kill a very important and dangerous Psy counsellor! But Katya doesn’t have a lot of time and with each passing day, her death is coming closer. Can Dev save her or had they never had a chance?
Dev Santos may not be a Changeling but he certainly shared a few traits with a very dominant Changeling male. He was dominant, possessive, stubborn (very stubborn!!!), arrogant at times, cunning and also very loyal. But he also shared some traits with the Psy. He was intelligent, he could shut off his emotions when needed and become very cold and ruthless. He also had some Psy ‘talents’.
Katya was intelligent and so broken but even so, she was very strong. She survived something that not many would survive. But being broken also meant that she was free to feel again. And she felt so deep, was so loyal and lovely. She stood up for herself against Dev when needed but she also gave him what he needed support, loyalty, love and touch.
It was very interesting to learn more about the Forgotten. The history of silence, why and how it started and why some didn’t want to follow that path. And how the Forgotten survived their separation from the Netmind and how they have develop since then.
The story was again told from both POV’s. The secondary characters were a blend from new characters and old ones.
‘Blaze of memory’ was a good story.
Dev Santos discovers an unconscious and battered woman on his doorstep. She has no memory of who she is but she knows she is dangerous. Ekaterina “Katya” Haas was stripped over everything by her oppressor and is now fighting for her sanity and freedom.
So this book was just ok. I didn’t really love the couple. Dev and Katya were both passing side characters in previous books and I think that is partly why I wasn’t as interested in this couple. The other factor was the characters themselves and their romance. Dev was constantly hot and cold throughout the book which got old quick. I don’t see how Katya was able to fall for Dev because he was constantly moody and willing to kill her at any point. I ended up skimming a lot of their dialogue because I just wasn’t enjoying it. I probably would have liked this book more if it had been a novella because it felt like it went on a little too long.
The reason this book is getting 3 stars even though I didn’t love the couple was because of the progression of the overall storyline and all the side stories. We learn a lot of new things about the Forgotten in this book. It was fascinating to “see” their Net and how it operates. There is also new information about the Arrows. One of the other things I really enjoyed in this book though was the letters. Periodically there were letters written by one of the original Forgotten to her child about the choices they made and why. The letters were very powerful and emotional.
While this one wasn’t my favorite, I will continue to read this series because it is a fascinating world and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
Very awesome addition to one of my favorite series. Dev and Katya were combustible and so angst-ridden, I actually teared up at the end despite having read this before!
Hot, Hot, Hot! Get ready to be seduced, and yes it is so good.
3.5 Stars!
This one dragged a little bit in the beginning before it picked up. We learned more, got a step closer. I may have missed a few minor details listening to the audiobook and getting distracted, but that ending was the best part. I love the kids and learning what they did was pretty cool. There are a lot of characters in this series and I’m still enjoying getting to know them all. Some more than others. Warning: you do need to start at book 1 to keep up in each book.
I have been rereading this series because I inhaled them so quickly the first time the details are fuzzy. I love the constant threat of danger in this series. In a world full of inter-species and international tension, you have plenty of people who want to kill each other. What is great about this book is that Dev and Katya really just want to save each other no matter how the universe seems to be working against them.
When Silence first went into effect, there were already intermarried couples who refused to bow to the will of the Council. They defected together and formed an interesting network that the Shine Foundation is working to piece together through genetic history and instinct. As seemingly human kids pop up with interesting Psy or changling attributes, Shine steps in to help protect and equip them to survive. The leader of this organization is Dev Santos. He can’t afford to make mistakes because hundreds of people depend on him, but he finds himself falling for a very dangerous Psy. Katya used to work with Psy researchers until she helped rescue some children. Now she is a ticking time bomb who’s last remaining use to a very sick man is to take out Dev and hurt Shine’s mission. So clearly, Dev is going to start falling for this very brave Psy who is fighting the clock to unlock her own memories in time to keep Dev safe. This one really makes you fight for that happy ending! This book also answers some pretty important questions, but don’t worry Nalini Singh has a few million more problems to solve!
I totally loved Dev’s book ,I so enjoyed his whole story 🙂
Dev is such a sexy interesting character I think he is just so awesome,i loved getting to read more about him,i really liked how his whole story came together :),I think it was great how he saves Katya ,I find them both a great add to the series ,I liked that Katya is the only person who is able to get passed the wall he put around himself after his mother was killed ,I thought their whole relationship was so great,it was different because he has Psy blood and Katya is a pure blood psy and to see their
worlds mix was cool, and he is such an alpha and it’s great to see how much he cares about the people in his life 🙂 he would do anything to protect them 🙂
Katya is a pretty cook chick ,I felt awful about what happened to her, what Mind did to was so sick ,I was glad that she was able to find herself again ,she’s a perfect match for Dev,she’s storng and it was so great to see them fall in love 🙂
Oh my god this actually had me in tears ,everything her and Dev go through was so sad,i felt so bad for them when thought Katya was gonna die ,the tears were flowing and I was like thinking it can’t end this way ,she can not do this to her readers ,but in the end she made the perfect end for them 🙂 .
I so totally love this whole kick ass series,it’s just complete awesomeness ,there isn’t one book that I don’t love in the is series 🙂
‘Blaze of Memory’ is book 7 in Nalini Singh’s Psy-Changeling Series.
I have to be honest, I was having mixed signals about reading this book. I really love reading about the Changeling’s that I was disappointed when I saw that this book was going to be about Devraj Santos (Dev) the Shine Foundation’s Director and Ekaterina Haas (Katya) a M-Psy and TP-Psy. But I’ll be the first to admit when I am wrong and I was SO wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
Once again Nalini Singh does not disappoint with our beloved past couples, giving us some insight to what has been going on in their lives.
I am so in love with little Keenan and Noor. They are so adorable together and I can’t wait to see how they grow throughout this series and to see how Keenan will grow into a man and the over protectiveness he will get towards Noor.
Blaze of Memory was an okay read for me. Truly I was kinda bored the whole read. Dev Santos was kinda flat. I didn’t connect to him and I didn’t get his weird Metal powers. Katya I liked. She was strong and sweet. Overall this book just didn’t wow me and at times I found myself zoning out. Oh well they can’t all be winners!
I admit Dev and Katya aren’t my favorite couple in the series, but their story is so freaking emotional I was dying to see how their story would end! Once the story started moving, I cried happy and sad tears because it was just that good!
