Shadow Henderson was grateful to the Whitfields for taking them in. She had to keep her mother and grandmother safe from her Uncle Thomas. The man was heavy fisted and had kidnapped her mother and was set to starve her to death just because he was embarrassed by her, he had his sights set on becoming the next president. His sister’s … embarrassed by her, he had his sights set on becoming the next president. His sister’s affliction with Altzheimers was an embarrassment to him. Shadow even suspected that he had killed her husband, but she couldn’t prove it.
Blake Whitfield was trying to adopt two boys he had taken into his home to foster, but with being a single parent, the judge went off on him, and Blake wound up taking a bullet for his troubles. Blake was immortal so the bullet wouldn’t kill him, but it still hurt like hell. His parents insisted that he recuperate in their home.
Several of the Whitfields had been pushing Shadow to meet the yet unmated Blake just to see if they were mates. Shadow wanted no part of it. She wasn’t happy in her last marriage and had sworn to never marry again. There was no way she would let anyone push her into anything she didn’t want to do ever again. That included the high and mighty Blake Whitfield.

This book is probably is the most emotional of all the Whitfield brothers.
Not only did we see Shadow lose her mother but also losing Ollie, the rock of all the brothers and who seemed to be the one everyone turned to throughout the entire series.
Shadow Henderson is an amazing undiscovered glass maker. With the help of the Whitfield family she discovers just how in demand her art is and just how much people will pay for something she just sees as a couple horses. Although they meddled and might’ve helped with her career, she’s not too enthused that they wish to meddle with her personal life and try to set her up with Blake, who they believe is her mate. She’s already lost one husband, has her mother to take care of, and protect both her mother and grannie from a controlling uncle who is determined to put away those that would embarrass and ruin his chances of becoming president.
Blake is sure it’s only a matter of time before he’s going to find his mate. But when he does she’s going to have to accept a ready made family as Blake is determined to adopt the two boys he knows he can help and who need a better living situation than they currently have.
Both Blake and Shadow are such a good couple together. Shadow and the love she just automatically shows towards Bennet and Joey is so amazing to see. She’s very protective of the boys and will make sure anyone who tries so isolate or harm them feels her wrath as well as that of the Whitfield family.
**I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this title**
‘Blake’ is the sixth book in the “Whitfield Rancher” series and boy, did it start off with a bang! First, we were introduced to an art critic who had to eat humble pie. There’s no way not to love Ollie!! The original judge who was presiding over Blake’s adoption of Bennett and Joey was about a mean, cynical old coot who rather flips his noodle when things didn’t exactly sit well with him. We get to meet Shadow Henderson, Blake’s mate. She fits right in with the other sisters-in-law. At one point, even Adrian thinks Shadow is a little scary. LOL, There are twists and turns, revelations, villains within the family, and betrayal. Even with the drama and evil that’s faced, there’s still love, loyalty, honor, friends, and family that pull together and have each other’s back. Although I would be remiss if I didn’t point out, there is a part in this book that quite literally broke my heart. So have tissues at hand because if you’re vested in the series, you’ll need them.
A great not quite the end of the series
Blake Whitfield, adopts two boys, gets shot and finds his mate all in the same day.
Shadow’s mother suffers from memory problems and has regressed to more often then not, her childhood. Shadow and her grannie watch out for her.
Shadow’s uncle has big plans that don’t include a sister who asks like a kid, or a niece and mother who shelter her. He hurt his sister badly. She was saved by the Whitfield family.
Shadow was married once before. She loved her husband but he was difficult to live with and their marriage was strained. Then her uncle killed him. She has no proof, but knows in her heart. Now she has a tiger mate, and two sons. An art critic who wants to make her famous. Shadow is over whelmed.
Blake being the youngest, is also the quietest, and the most observant and patient. With the help of his granddada , Blake helps Shadow through her anxieties and fears.
Blake and Shadow face challenges with their boys. Her uncle show up and has to be felt with. Then a devastating loss.
The future brings ups and downs for the ever expanding immortal family. Granddada is tired. Aunt Bea is gone. Blake and Shadow ‘s adopted son Joey has always struggled. They don’t know how to help.
A bitter sweet almost ending to the series. Joey’s story is just getting started. Can’t wait for Joey and Autumn ‘s story.
. Loved this series and I’ve read more then once.
