A warrior maiden, a gryphon prince, and an impossible love.Rescued from her grandfather’s dungeon by the King of the Gryphons, Enkara only wishes to repay that great debt by serving as one of the elite Shadow Guards tasked with protecting the royal line. Unfortunately, the gods have other plans, for she was born with the mark of a goddess running down her spine and her destiny is far greater than … destiny is far greater than that of a simple guard.
She is one of the Goddess Ishtar’s Avenging Blades, born into the world when danger stalks the royal line.
While that brings far more attention than she ever wished, she is still happy to serve Crown Prince Kuwari, for he is also her closest friend, and their bond is unlike any other Blade and Prince before them.
But Ishtar isn’t the only goddess with a desire to claim Enkara as her Blade and Kuwari as her King. Ereshkigal, Queen of the Underworld, is jealous of her younger sister, Ishtar, and will do all in her power to snatch them away, even if she must destroy the gryphon kingdom to do it.

I’ve loved every book by Lisa Blackwood to date so it is no surprise that I’m finding her Ishtar’s Legacy series to be great fun. Blade’s Honor is Book 2 in the Sadie’s and it is a wonderful urban fantasy tale that is easily worth five stars. It had just what I wanted, was well written, with excellent world building and a great plot, it’s lead Enkara, “Avenging Blade of the Goddess Ishtar” is Judy the sort of complex kick-a** heroine I love. At the same time it’s cast of supporting characters (I love Enkara’s relationship with Kuwari, best friend and Crown Prince) are simply superb. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises – the book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, with the caveat that while you could read this standalone you’re much better starting off from book 1 of the series.
This book is easy to highly recommend.
If you read Ishtar’s Blade and Blade’s Beginning, you already know the cast of characters. The conspiracy begun in Ishtar’s Blade continues as Ereshkigal tries to subvert Ishtar. Kuwari and Enkara are mutually attracted, but their union would be politically incorrect. Enkara doubts her ability to reign as queen. Their attraction deepens, despite a vision that Ereshkigal will use them to dethrone Ishtar. Court intrigues increase, assassination attempts continue, Enkara continues to resist Kuwari’s advances. There are a lot of very intense descriptions and strong emotions leading to a steamy conclusion (or should I say climax?).
– Thank you, thank you for finally writing this book! I didn’t think I could like any book better than ‘Ishtar’s Blade’, but ‘Blade’s Honor’ did it!
You have to read ‘Ishtar’s Blade’ first to understand the back story and all the characters. I also recommend reading ‘A Blade’s Beginning’. ‘A Blade’s Beginning’ is a real short story but it explains how Kuwari and Enkara met.
This book was amazing with all the action and adventure. Goddesses are set on revenge; you stole my husband so I’ll steal yours. A heroine who is not sure of her worth as a woman and is afraid the evil goddess is using her. Assassination plots galore. Great twists and turns that I didn’t see coming and that kept me on the edge of my seat. Thankfully Kuwari and Enkara get a HEA; well as long as the goddesses don’t interfere again.
Thanks to the author for writing this interesting series and for continuing the stories with another book.
Can be read without the first, but please read that one too! They are an amazing story!
I waited so long for this book!!! And it was worth every second! I adored the first book and this second lives up to its predecessor and then some. The relationship between Enkara and Kuwari is so very sweet. I’m excited for the next one now!
