Featured on the Lifetime and Netflix TV show You A darkly compelling debut of an unusual bond between two killers—and the destruction left in their wake.A cold-blooded killer-for-hire, Edison North drifts across America from city to city, crime scene to crime scene, leaving behind a world in flames. But during a seemingly random stop at a fast food restaurant, Edison meets Christian, a young girl … restaurant, Edison meets Christian, a young girl who mirrors his own sense of isolation and stink of “other.” Though it’s been a long time since he felt anything resembling a human connection, something about this desperately lonely child calls to him like a fallen nestling. Edison feels certain she deserves better. And while he is not convinced that he can give her that, he can teach her to fly on her own. So he takes her.
Thus begin the chronicles of Edison North—and his protégé. Weaving together past and present, Edison begins Christian’s strange apprenticeship as Christian looks back upon her fractured upbringing and the training that made her into the killer she’s become. What emerges is a savage—and ultimately tender—exploration of the unlikely bond between two outsiders: a fledgling assassin and the man who took her under his wing.

I thought the main character was an assassin but he was a terrorrist which put me off. Too many innocents dying in extreme acts of violence. Disturbing but I couldn’t put it down.
I really like this book but I’m not sure why! It just started out with a bang and sucked me right in. I don’t usually care for the first person writing style and this one does it from 2 different character’s perspectives back and forth. That may be somewhat confusing for some. Lot’s of action, sometimes when you least expect It, and you find yourself wondering how are they going to get out of it this time.
Doesn’t really go anywhere. Yeah, he’s a killer, teaches her to be a killer. No reason for the actions involved in the story. More like a study of the thoughts of two separate sociopaths as they interact.
Kept thinking it would improve. Won’t be reading more by Mr. Fiegel.
I don’t think I can even do this review justice. This book, this has truly been one of my favorite books of all time. The setup, the mindsets, the quotes, so many things delve into such deeply personal feelings for me. I thought when I read the synopsis it would be interesting, a mercenary type character and a captured apprentice? Sounds cool. But NO. This novel delivered so much more than expected. It lays out two very complicated lives, you get attached to people you should hate as a normal person. You feel their sorrows and it’s all done in such tact. Never once did I feel like it got sappy, I never was disappointed thinking that a character was acting differently than they should. Then there’s the actual twists and turns of the plot. Amazing to say the least. I loved the realism of the positive and negative effects. This was a book I never wanted to end. I love the characters, I adored the ending, giving me a feeling of “I wish I had more but this fits so well.” I felt so much admiration for the characters and I actually found myself relating in so many ways I didn’t think I would. Fiegel humanizes the main character in such surprising ways but keeps him cold at the same time. It was just so realistic with so many feelings I know, we all feel all the time. I honestly don’t think I could rave enough about this and do it justice. I think every one should get a taste of Blackbird.
one of the weirdest books I’ve ever read.
I thought this was a great book. Different from anything I’ve read before. It’s very hard for me too describe. If you are into a good thriller with alot of twists and turns try it. Nothing like a good read to keep you up and thinking….what’s next??
Compelling characters, compelling story, brutal life.
Fantastic characters.
It’s sad when a Hitman is more desirable than most men today. Sisters go on strike!
Lousy, I stopped reading it
Never saw the end coming.
I found this book sad and almost put it down a few times but it kept pulling me back. The main characters needed each other but their lives were so twisted I don’t think a happy outcome could happen. Very different from other books I’ve read.
Boring
Great tension. Hood book!
Rather odd storyline not always believable but thoroughly intriguing. I do believe psychopaths can be born as Ted Bundy showed and this novel highlights. Ending was spot-on “well what did you expect?” An entertaining if creepy read that dragged in spots. 3 1/2 stars
Just couldn’t get into this book
A sequel would be great
While I think the writing is very good, I stopped reading a bit shy of halfway through as the premise is just too disturbing.
One of the best I’ve read in a long time!
This book is what happens when a psychopathic hit man kidnaps a little girl in whom he sees a kindred spirit. Very well written and original.
