Wow!! What an amazing book. Reading this story made me feel like I was there. Highly recommend
Finding the Beauty in Living!
India R. Adams has created a thrilling sequel to her first book in her Tainted Water series, Blue Waters, with her second story, Black Waters.
We have met best friends, Whitney and Link, along with Crash, and have seen the triangle of love and yearning and pain and pleasure. Black Waters picks up the dramatic pacing to allow it to become a suspenseful thriller that provides unexpected storylines and intense emotions.
Ultimately, we once again find the thread of humanity which is woven through all of India’s great works of literary art. But even more importantly, we see that even through the ugliness of life, we truly can find the beauty in living.
Oh my heart! It’s taken me a while to actually be able to put together a string of words to result in a review. I wasn’t ready. I was not at all prepared for how to this book played out. I was excited to start this since finishing the first one, but couldn’t get my head around it. How this author managed to put so much content into such a small book is beyond me.
I won’t go into much detail because it’s not a book that can be explained but experienced for one’s self. You must read the first book to fully comprehend the events that transpire. I will say though, that my heart was torn literally into a thousand pieces. I was torn with who I was rooting for and what I wanted to happen. Secrets were revealed that had my jaw on the ground and I wanted more. While I’m sad that some of the events that happened made me cry, I do know it was what needed to happen. I’m excited for the next book.
After knowing the gist of the story from reading Blue Waters, I was very excited to get to read Link’s point of view in Black Waters. Already knowing what was coming was chilling, but learning the truths and tragedies behind the scenes was even more so. The plot continued to get thicker as the secrets ran even deeper and darker. This story was heartbreaking on so many levels and I am now eager to read Red Waters and find out more of Whitney’s story. Adams was absolutely brilliant in writing this book.
This is the second book in The Tainted Water series and told from Link’s POV. I don’t think there are words to adequately describe how engrossed I am in this series. The growth in India R Adams writing from book 1 to this book is incredible. It is poetic and gripping and flows so flawlessly I easily found myself getting lost in her words and losing track of time and everything going on around me. There is so much more to this story than I ever expected. Adams slowly peels back the layers of these characters and this storyline in a way I’ve never experienced in a book before. Each book changes POV’s but instead of reading the same things we already read we get all new facets of the story with new feelings and experiences. Link, Whit and Crash’s story is full of truths & lies, love & loss, deceit & redemption and heart wrenching tragedy and I cannot recommend it enough! 5 STAR absolute must read series!
Wow!!!
I seem to say that about every new India book that I read, but this book made me utterly speechless, which is normally impossible to do.
So much happened in this book that if I said anything more about this book I’d ruin the story. So many twists and turns you’ll finish it and still be reeling days later!!
I love how India writes. Black Waters is told from the view of another main character – in this case, Link. I’ve noticed with some authors the second book is usually just a rehashing of the story from a different point of view; but with India it’s like reading another integral part of the story. Black Waters did not disappoint and is full to the brim of secrets revealed, of which I had no idea were even coming. She is able to pack so much information in so few pages without overwhelming the reader. I love Whit and Link and will be sad to see the story end…and will sit here and wait (im)patiently for Red Waters to be released.
Once I started this book it was extremely hard to put down. All of the books I have read from this author have soo much emotion in them I find my eyes leaking, or better described as an ugly cry, at least once or twice while reading. My kindle was also in danger of being thrown or a cracked screen a time or two.
I always also love when an author puts out a book that is the POV from one of the characters as it allows us the reader to delve deeper into what they were thinking, especially if there is a lot going on. See Link’s POV was amazing and being able to live through what was read in Blue Waters and see one back story is just a gift.
I was just introduced to this author late this year and have really enjoyed every book I have read so far. I can only imagine was Red Waters has in store but an anxiously awaiting the next chapter in this series.
This was the perfect follow-up to Blue Waters. You get to see so much more of the story behind the scenes, understand Link’s motivations, and the darkness shadowing his and Whit’s every step… It’s an eye opener, for sure.
I loved every chapter of it!! The story was fast-paced, overviewing stuff we’d seen in Blue Waters, and going into loads of detail for everything that we had not yet seen. I won’t ruin any of the plot points, but suffice to say, it’s another one of those books whose characters will stay with you long after you’ve finished 🙂
What I truly enjoyed about the story, aside from Whit & Link’s story, was the struggle they’re put in as teenagers to fix their parents’ mistakes. “Enjoy” is probably the wrong word here, given what they undergo… So I’ll rephrase. I truly admire the way the author portrayed the internal struggles the main characters have, navigating teenagehood and young adulthood – which in themselves are hard enough – and dealing with the mistakes of the adults that were supposed to protect them.
If you haven’t read this series yet, it’s a must!
This book was packed with action and feels, and it made my heart ache many times over.
Black Waters is basically Blue Waters shown through the eyes of Link. It was extremely well executed as we saw a completely different perspective of events and relationships. I may have had a few tears in my eyes at times. Seeing this side of Link made me like him more because we have an insight on where he’s coming from, and why he did certain things in the first book.
India R. Adams, why torture is like that. I both love and hate the pain the events caused. Such beauty and horror. In Black Waters, Adams unveils what really happened with the Russians and how far back it stems; how everything and everyone is “Link”ed in more ways than one. (Ha, nailed it)
Anyways, absolute must read!
I was gifted this book in exchange for an honest review.
This story was, is, well….. Sigh. Wow, But…Sigh…damn… I can’t write this review right now. I really need to think on this and come back a little later.
EDIT:
Well I must stress DO NOT read this book before reading Blue Waters.
Ok now I do not normally like reading the same book from another’s POV but O.M.G this was so needed.
So many unanswered questions you didn’t even know you had.
So many things you didn’t even know you missed.
The focus is still on Whit, Link and Crash (Wimper) But your reading this from Links POV.
Boy it was on from the get go and didn’t let up till the finish line.
So much love, so much loyalty, so much betrayal, heartache and sacrifice. It just poured out like a tsunami there was just no stopping it till it ran its course.
This story will drag you along with it and have your emotions going haywire. Leaving Whit, Link and Crash a shadow on your soul.
Never have I had such a hard time writing a review and have to try so hard to not just spill and tell you everything. But you really will so want to read this for yourselves and thank me for not spilling.
As for Red Waters I really really want to read it, but I also really really don’t. In a good way! I just don’t think I could right now, knowing what I know.
So to sum this story up as a whole….. O.U.T STAN.DING.
This is the second book in the Tainted Water Series. I have no words! I couldn’t stop reading the book!! Every time I passed the page I was surprised!! This story has everything, love, hope, sacrifice and betrayal. I adore this book ; how characters overcome the obstacles presented to them in this story! India is an amazing writer!! I can’t wait to read Red Waters!
4.5/5
Oh how I loved some Link. He was equal part selfless and selfish in his love for Whit. I felt bad for him half the time. The relationship that Crash and Link was so unique. It wasn’t just because of Whit. Their relationship was sweety but downright tragic. I wanted so much more for Crash, Link, and Whit. But life isn’t always about playing fair. It drowns you… Pulls you under and you just hope and pray you escape that black water. I’m so glad that there is more to the series. I need more of these characters that captured my attention, that made me turn the first page, and dive deep into that blue black water.
5 ONE HECK OF A RIDE STARS!! Wow, just wow!! My heart was on a emotional ride all the way through this book. I read this book in about 3 hours I could not put it down. These characters have touched every part of my heart. This author’s storytelling is off the charts PERFECTION. You must read this series…..it is so good.
In the sequel to Blue Waters, we view most of the situation that happened in Blue Waters, but from Reether’s (aka Link) perspective.
In Blue Waters, we met Whitney, her best friend Link, and Crash, the man who Whitney gives her heart to. We learned a few unsavory things in Blue Waters but it was nothing compared to what we learn in Black Waters. I’ve been working on this review for a while now because I want to give the book justice without giving away spoilers, which would be so much easier if I did. There is a lot of information we learn from this new perspective.
As indicative of the title, the waters are Black, darker, and the storyline is a lot darker than the first. While love is still central to the story, it’s this deep love that they all have for one another that gets them into a bind. We also watch a really great friendship form between Link and Crash, and I think from Whitney’s perspective, if she knew about it that is, she would be pretty happy. Because who wouldn’t want their best-friend getting along with their boyfriend?
I never expected the story to unfold the way it did. I felt that because of her brother and Link, and then later Crash, Whitney lived in a really protective bubble. So many people have worked hard to give Whit a good life, a happy life, because we know she doesn’t have it at home. I think giving us Link’s perspective was crucial to the story, and it was really well done. I feel vested in these characters and cannot wait to see what Ms. Adams has in store for them.
