Erin learned a lot from her partner: stay alert, follow your nose, and once you’ve got your teeth in them, never let go.It’s tough working nights with the NYPD. The crime rate is high, the hours are terrible, and forget about a personal life. So when Officer O’Reilly and her K-9 Rolf switch over to the day shift, things are looking up. She’s even able to find time for a new boyfriend. But when the … new boyfriend.
But when the theft of a priceless painting from the Queens Museum leaves a fellow police officer dead, Erin and her four-legged partner find themselves dealing with dangerous criminals, sleazy art dealers, and obstructive detectives in a race to capture the killers…and just maybe bring closure to a 75-year-old crime.

This was a really good and well written book. It holds your interest.
Very good author.
Can’t wait for his next book.
I enjoyed it. The female cop has a K9 partner and somehow that makes it even better. It moves along, and is just light and fun.
It was easy to race through the pages in a day. I enjoyed it’s company and look forward to another.
An easy read with alot of interest!
I like the relationship between the between the officer and the K-9 and I loved Erin’s tenacity. It kept me interested throughout.
Good book
I love dog stories and police procedurals …. this series has both, yay!
I picked this book because of the dog on the front of the book. It was fast-paced & well written. I didn’t figure out who stole the painting & why until Erin did. I will definitely read more of Steve’s books.
I read the first Steven Henry book in this series and immediately bought and read the rest of series. I’m looking forward to the next one coming out soon.
Being an O’Reilly you know why — I am the oldest of nine. Guess what they are getting for Xmas!
Love the characters, love her relationship with her dog, wonderful story.
Erin O’Reilly and her NYPD canine partner, Rolf work the 3rd shift. Erin meets an art appraiser and goes with him to a special showing of rare artwork. One piece in particular was stolen by the Nazi’s and will go up for auction. But it is stolen during the showing and a fellow officer dies in Erin’s arms. There is a list of suspects and Erin won’t stop until she solves the case even though the detectives have shut her out of the case. Fast-paced and it includes actual work for the German Shepherd in the plot. There is profanity. It is first in a series.
I bought a second book of his because I needed to continue visiting with his main character and Rolf the police dog. He made everyone seem like real people and will chech out more stories of the smart police woman and her pardner.
Very entertaining. I love animals, especially German Shepherds, so this was particularly fun to read. It was serious and funny at the same time.
This is an enjoyable book and a good read (I ordered the second book in the series). The female protagonist has issues with her temper and I felt her canine companion was an afterthought at times, but overall the characters work.
The important aspect is the mystery and that is well thought out and holds your interest through the end of the story. I’m looking forward to the third installment in the series.
A great book and I learned what a black velvet is.
looking forward to reading his next book.
Love the relationship between the officers human and canine.
I thoroughly enjoyed this ok, and am starting on the seconding the series!
I liked the main character. I want to purchase the sequel, bit could not find it available for Apple iPads
