“OMG what did I just read? This book… WOW!! It’s been years since I read a book straight through. Yes, seven hours I was glued to the pages of this book. A yo-yo of emotions that left me breathless with every scene. Black Swan Affair is a must read!!” ~ Nashoda Rose, NYT and USA Today Bestselling AuthorI’ve loved him as long as I can remember. The gangly boy with big brown eyes and unruly hair … brown eyes and unruly hair who grew up into an intoxicating man. He wears scruff like he invented it and ambles with a swagger that makes panties drop.
Killian Shepard.
Shep.
We grew up together. We played Ghost in the Graveyard. Had our own rock band. It didn’t matter that he was five years older than me. It didn’t matter that he looked at me as a kid sister even as I grew into woman. It didn’t even matter when he left me behind to go to college and start his adult life.
He’d be back.
He was always meant to be mine.
He came back, all right. But instead of smelling of promises, he stunk of betrayal. And he destroyed me—us—the day he married my sister instead of me.
So I did the only thing a girl like me in my position could do.
I got my revenge.
I married his brother, Kael.
Now we’re one big happy fcking family.

This is not your typical fairytale where the girl gets the boy she loves. It’s about losing the person you love the most and letting yourself be picked up into your friend’s arms who shows you what selfless and unconditional love truly means.
The Story:
Maverick has always loved Killian but when he suddenly married her sister, her world stood upside down. Now Mave is married to Kael, Killian’s brother, even though she believes to be unworthy of his love because she’s still helplessly in love with Killian while Kael’s love for Mave is pure, selfless and unconditional and he deserves someone to love him equally.
Will their marriage survive her feelings for Killian? Can Kael be enough for her? Or will there ever be a time where she and Killian will be together? Can this family ever be in a room together without the palpable tension that’s threatening to burst at any moment?!
Thoughts:
Maverick was not someone I liked from the beginning but I got to like her more and more after a while. She had to deal with her broken heart while being a newlywed to someone she always just saw as a good friend and now she had to act like she loved her husband as much as she secretly loved his brother.
This story was told in dual POVs and switched with each chapter between past and present. The writing was just perfect and captured me with every word. I absolutely loved this book from the very beginning until the end and while I normally would have rushed through the story I actually took my time and let the words pull my emotions in every possible direction.
I was in love, I learned to hate and loath, I had butterflies in my belly, I was sad and angry, I wanted to cry and roll up into a ball, I wanted to scream and yell, I was disappointed, I was desperate, I was hopeful, and in the end I just felt emotionally bereft.
I don’t actually know what to think about the ending, if I like it or not. I am torn because I’m an HEA kind of girl and in a love triangle there’s always someone who gets left behind. It’s like being happy and sad all at once especially because Kael and Killian were so different yet so similar and I couldn’t have chosen between those two. Even though this was not my first love-triangle story it will possibly be my last because I just can’t deal with those life changing decisions anymore.
I don’t want to say anything else about this book because I believe it’s best that you go in knowing as little as possible to get the full experience. I was as clueless as Mave about the decisions that people made in this story and I was anxious for all the loose ends to finally tie up in the end.
This is a really good story. One minute I’m rooting for one brother, the next I’m all in for the other. I am extremely happy how everything turned out. I did however have a small issue with Marverick from time to time. There was a lot of back and forth with her, and it drove me a wee bit crazy. I loved her besties Mary Lou, I was all you tell her, girl! I think that Maverick loved the idea of love with one of the brothers, the other was love that she deserved. Either way, the epilogue was absolutely perfect. I loved that part!
A must read!
This is a fantastic story and what a journey! A story of intense and all consuming, selfless love. Definitely a book I didn’t want to put down. Wonderfully written, it kept me guessing from start to finish. So intriguing and heart wrenching at times I had to stop myself from skipping forward to discover the outcome, the reasons why. I’m so glad I didn’t, as I would have deprived myself of those heart stopping emotions and edge of your seat moments you get when you become completely invested in the characters, and the turmoil they are going through. I loved the storyline, the style of writing, the little insights into the past and the different points of view. I was so hoping that when all was revealed it wouldn’t be predictable and I can definitely say I didn’t see that coming. Wonderful. My first book by this author and it certainly won’t be my last.
This is the first book from K.L. Kreig I have ever read, and I really enjoyed it.
I’m not at all ashamed to say that I was sucked in by the gorgeous cover!
I love a story with angst in it – and this book definitely has that. I adored the way the characters were written and found them really easy to relate to and follow their journey.
Maverick has been desperately in love with Killian Shephard since she was a kid.
Killian’s brother, Kael, has been desperately in love with Maverick since he was a kid.
After Killian marries Maverick’s sister, she does the only thing she can think of to try and make life easier for her – she marries his brother. Revenge at its finest.
Kael has been Mav’s best friend forever. So surely it won’t be all that hard to marry him just to get at Killian?
Except that she starts to fall in love with her best friend. Her husband.
Now Maverick is trying to let Killian go so that she can be free in her marriage and love with Kael.
Until a series of secrets are revealed that completely upends Maverick’s world. And now she must choose. Which brother will hold her heart?
I spent this whole book changing my mind on which brother I wanted Maverick to choose! Ultimately I was so happy with who she chose.
I would love it if K.L. Kreig did a follow up book to this so we could follow the journey of the brother that
Maverick chose to leave.
I really enjoyed the writing of K.L. Kreig and will definitely be reading more of her work in the future.

I absolutely loved everything about this book. An emotional roller coaster. Pain. Sorrow. Jealously. Happiness.
The story goes back and forth between the past and present. And you immediately get attached to all the characters.
This book contains a lot of confusion between loving two men, but it doesn’t involve adultery (physically). So if you planned on avoiding this book because you hate books about cheating, the Black Swan Affair is a safe read.
